Don't let my title mislead you, I didn't go around taking surveys around the world ha! 10 of my friends which all camped out for PS3's during it's launch have all agreed to not do it again. Aside the sleepless nights and camper craziness, they feel they will wait atleast 1 year until purchasing. I've never purchased anything on release day, but will be doing so for the PS4. I find the psych behind all this pretty weird and strange. Any of you guys purchase the PS3 day one and will be doing the same for the PS4?

Exactly, if there is enough games at the launch that you wish to play, then the early purchase is justified. I won't be in the line for PS4 as I always pick up hardware during holiday season. In this case, it will probably be the Christmas time. :)

Based on the failure rates of ealy PS3s and xbox 360s, it's probably a bad idea for anybody to buy one of there consoles day one.

I'm thinking I'll try to get one about a year after launch, unless there are some absolute must have games before then, and if I can afford it, and if I'm not done completing my PS3 backlog.

My house was broken into and my first PS3 was stolen. I don't remember when I bought it, bit it wasn't day 1. I bought the 80GB motorstorm bundle. It had BC for PS2 games. Paid $500 for it. Didn't buy another one until Christmas 2011. The earliest I am willing to buy a PS4 (and only if they don't block used games and it is $300 or less) is Christmas 2015.

I didn't buy the PS3 day one but I am planning on purchasing it as well as the Nextbox as soon I see them available (or available for pre order). Funds are just currently better for me now than they were in 2006. Obviously if there are not any good games (or games coming) or the system doesn't look good I may change my mind, but I fully expect to drop $500+ per console whenever they become available.

Got a PS3 slim in 2010. Not in a huge rush to get a PS4 but we'll see.

It all depends on the launch lineup and what the PS4 is packing (and price of course).

Seems a bit premature to start planning to get a console we know nothing about based on hype.

I agree with the guys over at IGN, I highly doubt they'll show gameplay of any titles, if so it'll be a tease reel of some sort. As someone mentioned earlier, the line up will determine day 1 purchase. I can almost agree if we see any gameplay of Killzone 4 or anything in that nature, we'll be day 1 adopters

I will get it day 1. I didn't get PS3 until 2010. Won't be camping out, will pre-order it.

Seeing that it's supposed to be out around holiday season this year, I think people might have a hard time getting a hold of one for a while if they don't pre-order. If Dark Souls 2 is a launch title I want to be playing it on Day 1.

When the 360, PS3 and Wii came out, I wasn't even in high school yet, so I had to wait until I saved up or got them as gifts. Only thing I ever got day 1 was the Wii back then.

Now that I am in college with a job, I can afford my habits whenever I feel like it, so I'll be buying it day 1 like I did with the Wii U and probably with the new Xbox, unless that looks like its going to be utter garbage.

I find that hard to believe since the momentum the PS3 had in sales when it came out day one died very abruptly if anyone remembers. This time Sony will have a lesser price and will hopefully have more entertainment ready out the box on day 1.

Yeah that's how I was. I think it ended up being close to year or so later that I got my first one. Not exactly sure when I'd get the PS4, but if it's a killer game I'm really interested or I hear about some surprise titles that I've been pining for (i.e. DMC5....no the REAL one this time) then I'll get it not too soon after release. But mostly it'll depend on my finances and how much it'll cost that will determine how soon I choose to get.

I will probably do the same thing. The lack of BC except for Gaikai or whatever is a bit of let down though. You gonna sell all of your games too.

By the way don't trade it n. Use eBay....you will get probably 100 percent more at a minimum.

You buy what is probably the worst SKU of the worst version of the consoles available for the highest price it will ever be so that you can play 3-4 genuinely good games for the next year and a half?

I don't get the Day 1 console thing either.

I don't ever camp for machines, and I just simply reserve them. It's not that hard. I always see people waiting, and I've been invited to wait with other friends, but it's always their own fault due to lack of planning. I reserve to avoid lines, not wait in them. The idea is they hold the product, and you can relax and mosey on in to the store at a convenient time. It's also made clear that the retailer will sell it after a few days if you don't buy it, but that's not an issue for me. For those of you that got screwed by a retail pre order situation, it's not like you as a consumer have to only reserve at one store. Don't put all your eggs in one basket...or just wait to buy. It's not like the first year of ANY console is that great anyways.

The PS3 I wanted Blu-Ray badly, and I had been HD the generation prior, so I already waited for the PS3 to release to get Blu-Ray. I bought two at launch for two rooms.  Money isn't an issue for me, time is. So, if people don't have a lot of money, they probably would do better to wait for any machine to go down in price. I don't have that limit, so I buy at launch to tinker.

I have my PS4 and 720 money ready and waiting. I bought previous gens launches as well from Dreamcast to Wii to GC to Xbox to 360 to PS2 to PS3 to N64 to PSOne to SNES, etc.

I definately won't be buying any of the next-gen systems day 1. I had so many problems with reliability this gen with my day one purchase of the 360 and last gen the ps2. Hopefully the next-gen systems hold up out of the gate. Plus afte launch there is always a drought of releases especially good ones for awhile. I also have such an extensive backlog of games for my PS3 to keep me busy until there is a good selection of games. I definately will buy a PS4 though.

Got my PS3 about 2 years after launch and as of right now I'm planning on getting a PS4 next summer, so maybe 6 months after launch.  If the rumors about the $400 price are correct and there are at least a few games I'm interested in by then.

I've never bought a console at launch, I couldn't even imagine camping out or standing in line.  I just order stuff from Amazon lol.

bought the PS3 on launch day (17th march 2007 in France) and will do it for the PS4, although my 60Gb PS3 got the YLOD after 18 months, I payed Sony 150 to get a refurb one that died of YLOD 15 months after, I paid a shop that "repaired" it but it failed 2 months after and I bought a slim ... pretty crazy to do it over again with the PS4, no?

Well, it depends on the situation of price, games, additional Multimedia functions and the rumors of no used games. To be honest though I'm not really pressed because I think this-gen of consoles kinda over achieved.

There's alot more life left in this-gen and I'm willing to milk the hell out of it.:P So the next-gen consoles better be able to knock my socks off(Sony or MS)if they want my cash on day 1.

I'll likely buy one (online) at launch and just sit on it and enjoy my PS3 for another year or two before buying a second PS4 that I'll actually play since there will be a good catalog of games by then. I figure in three years, once the PS4 slim comes out, I can throw my unopened launch PS4 on eBay. There's always some odd collector with way too much money lurking for such things.

If they announce The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Sucker Punch's new project as launch titles, I'll consider purchasing a PS4 at launch.

So, no, doesn't seem like I will be. :P

The last console I bought on launch day was the Dreamcast back in '99. We know how well that turned out. So I'll wait a few months to a year before getting it unless there is something I really want to play that is only on the PS4, such as MLB'14, Uncharted 4, Infamous 3, etc.

I think waiting 6 months to a year is the smart decision. By that point I think any glaring issues that the console may have will be public and just gives you more information needed to make the decision to buy or not.

If you want a ps4 and will get one no matter what then 2 years is a little silly to wait in my opinion. A console may have a life span of 10 years, but the genertaion that console is in is typically 5 - 6 years.. Are you really going to spend over $400 dollars on something that will be "last gen" 4 years from the day you purchase it? It's a waste of money.

Don't wait any longer then a year if you are for sure getting one, don't waste the time thats left in "the current gen".

But in the end it comes down to games. A lot of studio have been pretty quiet the last year or 2. I'm guessing it's because their working on next gen titles, so I don't believe games will be limited come launch.

Seriously getting it Launch day, had enough of all this moaning about ooo there might not be any good games from launch, well thats why you keep your ps3, but i'm older now than i was back then and have money, ps4 is going to be amazing i don't care how people look at it and say it's to early and this and that, the fact is ps3 is old, it's well over 6years old now and the hardware is will out of date, so the graphics are going to be better maybe not better than the jump from ps2 to ps3 but thats because we jumped from standard def to high def,  but honestly do you really think they would bring a console out now if they didnt think that it would be not that much better than the ps3.

Seriously I'm hyped and i honestly believe that sony is not going to launch it without great games because of there launch last year and with the wii u not doing to well they can't afford to not to.

As much as I love my PS3, I have to wait and see what the PS4 has to offer at launch before I decide to buy it right away. If it wows me and has great games from the start and the price is reasonable for a new console, I might go and buy it. If not I will wait a year or so. My PS3 still has loads of new games coming out this year.
