If i got a preowned version of DCUO and the voucher code is used, Will i be able to still use the game by paying for the subscription instead of using the code?

Ive never played the game tbh but if you got it from somewhere like Game or Gamestation then id expect that there is some way to play it. Why would a big time retailer sell you something useless? if you got it off some random dude, then id ask for my money back, go to a store and pick a bnib one just to be on the safe side.
