I had more fun with Valkyria Chronicles. I thought Demon Souls was boring.

VC by a nautical mile. The characters are fantastic, the story is great, the visuals are incredibly beautiful, the gameplay is really fun, and it's just a really great game. DS however, has little in the way of characters, the visuals are dull and bland, the gameplay is just plain boring, and it's just needlessly unforgiving as opposed to "a game that is really hard, so you need skill to play" that I hear so much, although it's by no means a walk in the park CoD kinda game, I just found that there were a lot of cheap deaths and the fact that it booted you back to the start of the level made it get very annoying or repetitive.

I enjoyed both but I would put VC ahead. It really depends if you want a dungeon crawler style Action RPG or a Turned based stratagey type RPG. I usually hate turn based fighting systems but VC just seemed to do it right for me.

Valkyria Chronicles. Everything is better about VC. Despite having "souls" in the title, Demon's Souls lacks any sort of soul. VC has charm, a story, actual characters, and fantastic gameplay.

I would recommend Demon's souls over VC. Both can be bought for under $20.

If you are looking for story, characters etcs then VC. Demon Souls is the kind of game in which you try try and try. And it's awesome. Considering your username (You like anime right?) then go with VC. IMO.

I dont think these games are really all that comparable. Demons Souls is more of an action game. Valkria Chrociles has more RPG stuff like story, lots of charactar dialogue, etc. Valkyria Chronicles' gameplay plays like a strategy game that is a mix of rts and tbs.

Personally, I like Demon's Souls a lot lot more. But I am not a big fan of RPGs I just do not enjoy most of the long sequences of charactar dialogue in Valkria Chronicles, I find what they are talking about to be really boring and I want to just get to the fun gameplay in the game.. It depends on what you are looking for in a game. If you want a great action game with amazing atmosphere and great challengin gameplay, but little story go with Demon's Souls.

If you are into anime styl e humor/story and like long sections of charactar dialogue, if you like gameplay that is similar to advance wars mixed with Real time strategy, go with Valkyria Chronicles.

Or just get both!

I suggest Valkyria Chronicles. The gameplay is fantastic; each battle is pretty much unique, so you won't get bored with the game. As for Demon's Souls, I only enjoyed World 1 & 3. Didn't care for the rest.

Demon's Souls, best PS3 exclusive this gen IMO.

Vari3ty

I agree that DS is one of the best ps3 exclusives (might be the best like you said, actually), so I'm going with DS. Of course, I only tried the demo to VC, and I i didn't like it, so I'm kinda biased.

Theyre both kinda different though. DS is very atmospheric, gloomy/moody, is difficult, and concerns your main character only. VC looks very light hearted, is story-driven, and concerns you multitasking across many diff characters. BUT, theyre BOTH strategic in their own right.

I was lucky to have a friend go thru the game with me in my first play through of DS, but if you use teh DS wiki you'll be fine (it's not cheating, it just saves you a bunch of time from trial and error gameplay).

You really can't go wrong with either one, I have both and they are AWESOME RPG's but from the opposite ends of th spectrum in the genre. This is a very difficult decision but on the plus side you can't lose, my suggestion is to get both because you can find them for dirt cheap prices now but if you can't do that then flip a coin and make your own choice.

I own both and they're both really great games, but I like Valkyria Chronicles a lot more for the simple fact that it has it all: great characters, story, gameplay, graphics, music, and it's the type of game that will make you feel positive and negative emotions. Easily one of the best games ever made and at $19.99 it's worth a lot more. It's a definite gem and not a game to be missed.

Demon's Souls has all the ingredients that make a great game. Be warned: it's difficult. I feel that's the draw of the game because it's so difficult it's very rewarding at the same time because you earn EVERYTHING in this game. It definitely feels like an old-school game in every way. It's $19.99 as well and you'll definitely get value for your money as there is a lot to explore.

I'm the kind of person that likes games like Ninja Gaiden, God Hand and other unforgivable brawlers. So when I started Demon's Souls I didn't get the whole difficulty thing. It was more cheap than difficult and it's just a trial and error process. I guess if you like your rpgs to be calm and turn based then go for VC. If you enjoy some masochistic fighting, then Demon's souls is an excellent game.

I'd recommend getting both though.

Demon's souls is better but both are great. Problem with VC is that theres no real reason to use your whole army tactically. The best strategy seemed to be was to overbuff one character and go rambo style as it was really CP efficient next turn when an invincible overbuffed character counterattacked over and over in the enemy base. Theres a bit more to it than that but a standard tactical use of all of my units never seemed to be a good strategy. Though you should really get both they're far better than anything coming out this year probably.

Demon's Souls, definitely. I was reccomended Valk. Chronicles and couldn't even finish it, not trying to bash it, but the gameplay was meh, and the story i couldn't care less about. Go with Demon's Souls, youll have a blast and it has great replay value.

I would suggest that you take this to the recommendation thread, because that's where questions like this belong. (That's assuming, of course, you haven't already come to a decision. In which case, take this message as a simple friendly reminder, then.)
