So everyone knows this is an insanely hard game, but I've noticed you can get really **** over by meeting 2 criteria
1) Having no demon souls
2) Running out of moon grass
I've only completed one area so far (after many hours of play) and have reached the next boss (I'm doing the Amour Spider one). I know everyone dies a lot, but I've already had to go back once to the first area just collect souls, so I could then buy some moon grass after running out completely. Now I've run out AGAIN and will have to repeat the process before I can kill that **** spider...
Anybody else find they ever had to do this, or do I just suck? lol

Either way an awesome game

Grind and level up your character to make him or her stronger. Try investing your Demon's Souls into your stats.

Not really, I never buy moon grass cause i find it's a waste of souls and I always have enough just by loot. If your running low on souls why not try farming skeletons in world 4. Quick and easy souls imo

Never do that. Use the Demon's Souls for spells, miracles and unique weapon upgrades. The only demon's souls you should eat are the red dragon's and the blue dragon's.

Do you have Soul Arrow yet? Killing the spider is a piece of cake once you have that. 4-1 is a good place to grind- enemies give you plenty of souls and I'm sure they drop the more powerful moon grass too. I never buy moon grass, it's a waste when there's plenty of enemies that drop it.

4-1 also has the compound longbow, it'll make things easier.

I just decided to play it for an hour or two last night to see how hard it is, then platinum R&C, then start really focusing on the game. I didn't find it that hard, except that stupid red-eyed knight kept killing me. I try to block his attacks but he smashes through my shield and hits me while my guy is recoiling, I die in one hit, but it takes me like 15 hits to kill him.

There's an easy trick to beating armor spider, you shouldn't even need any grass for this fight. Just after you enter the fog to fight him, there's a spot right to your left that you can stand behind to avoid all of its long range attacks. Wait for it to attack, then use a bow and arrows if you have them. If you don't have them, this fight will be trickier. If you have magic, you have to get a lot closer to lock on so you can use it. When it attacks, roll to the sides.

Also, when I faced it, I was able to just run up and attack with my Kiliji several times, back off, use some magic, then melee again. This boss was quite easy tbh... if you think he's tough, wow wait until you're up against Flamelurker. I'd say get the Purple Flame shield after you beat AS (it's located in 1-1) Though it's in the area where the 2 dragons hang out... I managed to get it just before the red one killed me.

The purple plame shield is a must for fighting Flamelurker, as it makes everything much easier. I somehow managed to beat him without it though, but it was really tough.

It's okay, you're not really supposed to be able to beat old red-eyes yet. There's no reason to go that way until later anyway (usually someone's put a message there to warn people).

You can beat him, but ideally you want to be lvl 20-30.

I can't remember, but according to Wikidot the starting magic level for a knight is 10. I looked in the Nexus and couldn't find anyone who would teach me spells, only a blacksmith, a storage guy, and two other people that offer no services.

An easy place to farm grass at lower level:

After you beat the 1-2 boss, start at that waypoint.

Head toward the two knights in the hallway before the boss.

If you have magic 1 or 2 spells will kill them before they even notice you.

If not then walk (don't run) up behind them and backstab them for an instant kill.

They always drop halfmoon or fullmoon grass, and you get an easy 1000 soul which at your level can be helpful.

Also take out the archers if you want for some crescent grass. Once you are done head back to nexus and start over. I do this with every character I start until I have about 100 crescent, half moon, and full moon grass which usually takes about 10-20 minutes and I have yet to run out.

----

If this is your first character I would recommend putting some points into magic. It makes the game almost laughably easy.

Use soul arrow until you can get Soul Ray (pierces through multiple enemies in a row).

Warding and Firestorm are also very helpful spells.

I would also get 2 slots in miracles and get second chance (revives you upon death)

---

Also getting the Purple Flame shield is easy. If you have pure white in world 1 the dragons won't appear on the cliff and you can grab all the treasure. Either that or you can kill the red dragon in world 1-2 if you us a bow or magic. Climb up to the first tower on the bridge and wait for the dragon to start its descent. If you have a bow you can aim and attack, with magic or a crossbow you either have to do it blindly (which is easy since he is so big), or target him as he comes towards you and cast or shoot quickly.

It'll take about 30 minutes and 200 arrows or bolts but the soul is worth it and so is the loot. Make sure you get the spear on the bridge as well.

Is there another Purple Flame Shield somewhere? I have two, know I got one from the dragon's stash but have no idea where the other came from. As for the spider boss, the thief's ring from the first level (youtube the roll to that area, it's a bit odd) and arrows and it's done. It almost feels like cheating. The first couple of times I tried to melee him, got pissed off, and left. Then I tried the ranged trick only to realize that his little seeking attack could still hit me on the left side if I wasn't wearing the thief's ring. After grabbing that, it went down ridiculously fast.

It takes doing areas over and over to gain enough soul points to be strong enough to beat enemies as you progress through the game. Also killing certain enemies over and over to get shard to upgrade weapons is very important also.

I believe the red eyed knight drops it, but I don't know how often.

You don't even need to do that on the spider boss. The shield blocks 90% of fire damage and water veil reduces fire damage a great deal. He is probably the easiest boss in the game, second to leechmonger.

Well now I feel stupid cos I've realised why I sucked so much. I didn't really bother paying to attention to the whole concept of living vs soul state and the co-op feature. i.e. I didn't know what it was or how it worked lol...That really makes it a whole lot easier now. Still tough but it takes the sting away and insanity.

On that note, I've played the giant knight boss (dunno its name) in the palace 4 times now in co-op. In 3 out of the 4 times the "session ended" when we were close to winning. Arrgh. So anoying, anyone else have these kinds of problems? Hell once we killed the boss and it immediately dropped out. It said I'd defeated it, gave me the souls but then dropped out and didn't ressurect me. :/

Just kill the Red-Eyed knight. I don't think it is that rare. I got it after my third or fourth time killing him, but maybe I just got lucky (Luck is 10 by the way).

The Magic trainer is behind the pillars opposite the blacksmith. Took me a while before I realized he was there, myself.
