Demon's Souls, From a guy who dislikes RPG games

Im not much of a hardcore gamer or an rpg gamer. i enjoyed pokemon, and alittle bit of runescape (it was pretty addicting) when i was young tho:P but now i just hate turn based gameplay and what not. Luckily demon's souls isnt turn based. So yesterday i got Uncharted 2, then saw they had 1 copy of demon's souls. the game cost $79. yes $80 for a game (not delux), i live in canada:(. so im like hey it better be worth it. i kept hearing about how the game is hard and what not but i saw it diffirent. this game is like nothing i played before. this game is all about stragety and not thinking that your kratos. im a fast learner. so far i know how each enemy reacts, and the pattern they use. you got to always have your gaurd up because these demon's or w.e are sneaky sob's when you enter a room and ther hiding behind the door and stuff lol. i LOVE parrying an attack then killing them with a counter, it's so satisfying. but its really hard to do and you'l fail most of the time. once agian it comes to mastering the timing and enemies movement.

So ya im loving the game rite now. im proud to say that i beat 1-1 and the boss on my first playthrough without dieing:D. and i almost beat the next boss (the huge guy with the shield) but i was caught slipping, his health was almost done, like a couple more slashes and he would die. my health was like that too. i could of just ate the healing item, but nnoooo. i just had to finish him off and he ended up jumping back and killing me:cry:. and out of my anger i killed this guy in the nexus, he was some guy standing on the far right behind the wall. he kept saying he wants god to forgive him and how he should be punished and what not. so i just had to put him out of his misory:P was he someone importiant or something? will he ever come back?

also when will i have an option to invade or help other ppl with co op?

so ya, im loving it. i think im going to get into more RPGs from now on, unless its turn based. because rpgs are really addictive. it really has me obsessed on upgrading my guy, customizing him anyway i want

I read these comments about Demon's Soul and makes me wanna get off my ass and go get it. Can't wait till tommorrow to nab my copy. I love RPG's and this seems right up my alley. Some strategy and some good ole' fashion demon whoop'n

I think thats it for me.. im going tomorrow after my lectures and pick this game up from EBgames.. im enjoying Uncharted 2 now but i think i will buy this one and then Ratchet and Clank 2 weeks from now

This game is selling like crazy. I told my friend how awesome it was, so he went out to get it, it was sold out at 4 different GS's. I'm so glad I pre-ordered ;)

As a quick note to people new to this game, or planning to get it: It has very high replay value, and do not be so disheartened when things get tough. Strangely enough, many games attempt to make the game harder by using cheap tricks or having way too many issues and bugs and poor-hearted planning. Be warned though; Death will become a normal cycle! I don't know how many times I've died, but I always felt like coming back for more with new tactics in mind on how to defeat my foes. Probably one of the best features is versatility. You can play as anything you wan't, fight however you feel.Want to wear super huge armor while holding a dagger and backstabbing foes? Want to use magic AND wield a HUGE crushing axe at the same time? The options are endless.

When you first start off, you get to pick gender, FULLY customize ALL of the features [although this is quite difficult to achieve, as you will spend at least 20 mins or more] of the face and skin. You pick a starting class, but you arent bound to chains by it; it only affects your starting attributes, armor, and weapons. Later on however, as a warning, and not intended to spoil anyone, but the more you level up your starts, the harder it becomes, but is not disheartening. I hope anyone who plays this game will give it a chance and not give up after the first few deaths or so, because it is a really great game overall, and recommended for strong players. I've beat the game, but I'm still playing it on new game plus!!

also when will i have an option to invade or help other ppl with co op?

for co-op you need to use the blue eye stone, im not sure where you get it....to invade you need the black eye stone and i believe you get that in the level after the spider boss.

about the guy you killed, i'm not sure if he will come back. i killed a merchant and he never came back...

this game is absolutely amazing. i am addicted. all the good things that everyone is saying about this game are true. the online is exceptional, i find myself playing for hours just invading other games and playing co-op to gain souls.

best rpg i've played since ff7...

Don't get me wrong, I loved this game....but how do you figure it has high replay value? It is exactly the same, with absolutely NO variation (other than getting harder in NG+ and up) when you replay it. WT events don't really count, because you can work it so that you do all of those on the first playthrough.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree regarding replay value...the only replay value in Demon's Soul is if you want to try the game with a different type of character build. But this is the case with almost all RPG's and is not sufficient basis to claim a game of this genrehas high replay value, imho. It's the absolutely fixed, non-variable state of the game that I consider it's biggest flaws. All monsters, traps, loot, events...basically everything but the player, does not vary in any way.

thank you! i dont hate 1st person but 3rd person is infinitly better in a hand to hand combat oriented game. i could not get into oblivion because of the first person perspective. (and i just couldnt bring myself to watch the character glide pathetically around the screen in 3rd person.) if oblivion had the gameplay mechanics of demon's souls it would be an awesome game.

I'm just wondering, has anybody else had way more dreams about dying after playing this game, or is it just me? lol

very interesting mini-review. You make it sound like a game, that both helen and I would like to play. I'm kind of a sneaky guy myself, so i would like to play against sneaky demons.

its a great game, i've been slaughtered a couple times and been meaning to go back to it. basically it's a game of patience, skill and wits. if you can be patient enough and get down the enemies tactics you can destroy everything with minimal damage or effort. but you can't run in trying to kill everything, its a bit more realistic in that you have to really pay attention to the enemies and your surroundings.

Ya, if this were how rpgs were always made then I'd be a rpg gamer. This is the only rpg I've ever liked.
