I was just playing this for the first time today and man! The difficulty is pretty hard. But that's not what makes me ragequit after every 10 minutes. It's how unforgiving it is. What do you guys think about Demon's Souls. I was really hoping to enjoy it because I'm a fan of RPGs.

I never found Demon's Souls to be hard or unforgiving. I think the reason is that I kept hearing about how hard and unforgiving it was that I overhyped the difficulty in my own mind.

Anyway, keep playing and dying. You'll get the hang of it.

I used the Temple Knight. He seemed to be the best for me. I died a lot and just kept learning to fight better and be better at how I played in general.

The difficulty is overrated IMO its not that hard once you get used to the game and take your time and be very patient. I beat the game with 10 vitality the only trouble i had was FlameLurker. The game is very good, fun and addictive so keep playing :)

To be honest. With this game, its not the enemies that kill me, it me accdiently rolling off a cliff or something. That what really kills me. Not the enemies.

The game technically can become way easy or way hard. Play ranged (like a mage), play online (with the co-op and help messages) and make sure to keep worlds in white tendency (easier online) and it'll be a cakewalk. The only boss that troubled me throughout the game was the boss of 3-2, mainly because my mage just wasn't equipped for the situation. Once I decided to go melee, it was much easier. To play hard, play full melee (no bows and arrows even), play offline (probably the most brutal thing you can do on your first try) and play in black tendency (which will automatically happen if you play offline and die a lot). Then you get a taste of the unforgiving and hard nature of the game. Of course, you can mix these things up to give you a varying degree of difficulty. I played as a mage, played online but still fought all bosses except one all on my own (and even the one with help, the dude died midway through the boss fight (2-1)). The rest I fought on my own, yet still practically killed them all on the first try, bar like I said the boss of 3-2. So my experience was laughable in terms of difficulty, but I know (now at least) it would've been harder if I chose to play the hard way.

Lol I can't even get to the first boss without rage quitting and I'd probably die once I reached him anyway and the white ghosts (players) never reached the boss with me :( Can I summon people or get summoned before I beat the first boss, I don't think so, but I'm not sure either. Farthest I got to was to the Blue Eye Knight and I got owned lol.

the game itself is amazing. so far ive played about 40 hours, and im on my third playthrough. a lot of time has been spent on leveling my character and upgrading weapons, fighting old king doran and so on...

the game itself wasnt really that hard to begin with, it was just that i had to learn the flow and all that. and now that im on my third playthrough, its easy peasy. still a ton of fun though, and im expecting to complete the game at least two or three more times.

It was great, one of my favorite RPGs this game, when I died, most of the time I would just use the quit game exploit, most of my deaths were just because I made some stupid error anyways. It's not really that hard on the first playthrough, but I started playing again recently on NG+, and I don't know if it's because I have such a low magic skill and know hardly any magic or if it's because I haven't played for so long, but it's much harder.

No you can't summon or be summoned, nor level up until you defeat the first boss. What class are you using? Are you locking onto targets? Some people say going two handed against the blue-eyed knight is more effective than trying to block his attacks using a shield (ie. dodge more).

People don't even know what "hard" or "difficult" is now these days. It's drastically different in terms of gameplay than most RPG's and there is little margin for error. There are ways to widen that margin through different character developments and exploits, but it is a hard game. Lots of people get their butts handed to them, so don't get frustrated.

To me, thats what I enjoyed the most about the game. IMO it sucked as an RPG, but it shows how awesome a game can be when the gameplay is nailed just right.

When I first started, it was tough trying to get the timing right and to build my class the right way. By the time I stopped, I was on my 6th playthrough and wore armor just for decoration. The game was still hard, but I was just very comfortable with the game and the enemies. You will get there too. Everything is hard until you get used to it.

Supposedly Royals are the best, but I chose a knight and found the beginning pretty easy (at least compared to my previous time of picking barbarian...).

Royalty is a good entry level character. I'd say keep up with patience and use soul arrow as much as you can. From my experience, you don't really need to fight close up on the first level :)

What Jackininy said is true, you especially shouldn't be getting close up since the Royalty starts at Soul Level 1, meaning your defense is gonna be rubbish. I started as Royalty too, and died once at a blue knight because eating a herb stops your movement, something you need to get use to. Make sure your MP is full, shoot one soul arrow from a distance, if the blue knight chases you, just back away until he attacks and with good distance, he shouldn't hit and then counter with soul arrow. Beware he also eats herbs to replenish his health, hit him with soul arrow then to disrupt and potentially kill him. Try not to bother using soul arrow when he has his shield up, since his shield will absorb a good amount of magic.

If you're really desperate, you can bombard the blue knight with soul arrows which will eventually shield break him (I think it's about 2-3 hits) and he will eat your next soul arrow :D This isn't a problem since you start with that mana regen ring!

If he was really used to true rpgs, i can see why he's having a hard time with DS. Which is really a action/adventure game with a couple of rpg elements thrown in. ( character & weapon building )

Dude, I think that should be in spoiler tags, just because I'm sure the TC would appreciate the surprises in game much more than reading up here. But to help you, can you not run pass it? I was a mage so I rather easily disposed of it. You could try bow and arrowing it I guess, I'd assume it's possible if my magic was.

haha maybe I'm using the term "shield break" too loosely... I meant that multiple soul arrows would result in the blue knight staggering from blocking too many shots thus allowing a solid hit afterward. I can't really vouch how effective that would actually be in PvP though ^^'

you can easily snipe the blue dragon if its too problematic to run past.. although "easily" is relative to whether or not you have a bow and if you are able to deal decent enough damage with it

you have to dodge the fire breath to get to a spot where you can lock on it at its second perch. youll notice a sweeping pattern of right to left, left to right, right to left. just sprint by on either side as soon as the fire moves away.

Woot got to the vendor dude in 1-1. Quick! Should I buy a Long Sword or Short Spear or Club. Sword and Spear are 1500 each but club is 500. And for armor should I buy Coat of Plate, Plate Helmet, Plate Leggings, or Plate guantlets. Helmet is 1000, Coat is 1500, Guantlets are 1200, and leggings are 1200. But I only 2252 souls :/

He also has Firebombs and the healing grasses so I'll buy some of those for the boss and other enemies.

hahaha I never bought anything equipment or consumable based off of vendors. You're better off with starting gear + loot that you find so spend those souls on other things! :)

No no, I understood what you meant. Sorta similar to how repeatedly hitting someone with shields up does the same thing in melee. Once it eats up the stamina bar, the opponent staggers. I just never realised it possible wiith magic. Which I should have considering one of the advantages of HSA, is that 2-3 shots 'shield break' then the rest hit proper. I just never fully realised it until you said it. Even in PvE, it would have made things a lot easier, since whenever I saw something with a shield up, I'd just move around waiting for it to attack or something so that the shield is down.

You need to run through. Magic won't hit him from the stairs. I was Royalty and beat him. Like LS said, you need to recognise the pattern and run accordingly. I don't even know if you can hit him with arrows from such a distance (i never used arrows)

You could buy some herbs, but I wouldn't buy firebombs. Armor I can't say, probably pointless if your a Royalty, since it'll increase your equip burden. I never did buy it so I can't say for sure.

A note of advice though, if you push forward, bewary of an ambush. If you want however, you can backtrack to the stairs you came down after the blue knight. There you can jump down to another area. There are usually help messages there saying beginners go here or something. There's a friendly npc there who needs your help and who will help you for a bit. You also get the very valuable Thief Ring there I think. Also of note, did you open the shortcut back to the beginning of the area from the tower after the blue knight? It's semi-dangerous (less than a blue knight), but worth it. Shortcuts stay open even if you die.

Just keep one thing in mind: you don't die all the time because you suck, you die because you're supposed to die. It's just the way they designed the game. You die to learn, if you will.

Woot got to the part where I get to fight the boss so I can die like 10000x and I don't have to go through alot of playing to get pack. It did give me a sense of accomplishment, even though I used a walkthrough >_> So all of those ambushes didn't surprise me. But hey, I still played it :P Turpentine TIME!

just farm xp on the first part of the first world for long enough (after beating the first boss) and you will eventually become strong enough to coast through the game.

kind of a lame way of playing, pretty boring, but if you're actually struggling, this is one way to get through it.

Playing this game is like learning how to ride a bicycle. Sure its frustrating and difficult at first, but once you learn how, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

8k souls? Wouldn't that like, take 4 playthroughs of the first level? Plus I hate using items in game, since your character stops cold to use said item, leaving you open to any attack. I even got fed up applying turpentine, so I just hacked away and used soul arrow, changing between the two when MP was low. I still suggest you get better millage by facing the boss again and again until you figure out a rhythm and recognise his patterns. Don't bother attacking the small fry, just aim for the boss.

Same here. It wasnt THAT hard. It's easier than NGS in my opinion, and actually has 'fair' challenge. Btw, just finished it, disappointing last boss, but still a great game.

you cant sell anything, so no. just spend your souls on levels or items you need if you are about to go into a hard part or even if just have a lot. "you cant take them with you."
