I'm sure this is getting asked a lot with both coming out recently. Well i'm going to ask it too.

I love story-driven RPG's, and enjoy sinking 100+ hours into a single story as opposed to 15 hours in a compact but more involved story. I love making decisions that affect characters in the game. I also dislike dungeon crawlers. I dont get down with Diablo. I dont like killing endless amounts of monsters just to do it. This all point to Dragon Age: Origins. And yet Im not convinced.

Because the game simply looks awful. Last gen graphics combined with a battle system that rarely works on a console, plus a good amount of confused gamers wondering why site reviews are so high. And yet, Demon's Souls is getting unanimous praise, both by reviewers and gamers, and simply looks beautiful.

Which is better, whats the deal?

It is hard for me to get past graphics these days. I dont think there is a good excuse for subpar graphics. I like Demon Souls because it looks great AND plays great. Dragons Age just looks horrible to my eyes and i dont think i could stand looking at it for long periods of time.

I can't speak for Demon's Soul but I love Dragon Age. The game is certainly weak in the graphics department but it's the game I've been waiting for ever since the original KotOR, but because of that I'm probably biased towards BioWare.

I have played both games. I think Dragon AGE is much better game. But I play Dragon Age on PC and comparing PC Dragon Age to DS graphics about Equal I guess the PS3 ver doesnt look as good. Even so I would rather have Dragon age.

Call me old fashioned, but I buy a game for it being, well, a game. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE a game with breathtaking graphics. It's just not a deal breaker.

My take on things is that if you want a straight-up RPG get Dragon Age. I've heard awesome things about it.

If you want a brutally hard micro-leveling game where you make very small progress and are punished severely for dying (which you will a LOT), get Demon's Souls.

I love RPGs and will spend forever leveling up. Demon's Souls didn't do it for me. It wasn't rewarding enough and despite the fact that RPGs are about repetition this was a bit overboard.

My 2c. I hope you find what you're looking for.

I can't speak for Dragon Age: Origins because I've not played it, but I can speak for Demon's Soul. I just got it last night and I'm hooked. The graphics are beautiful, the controls are user friendly, and the game is very responsive. I don't know much about the story other than the prologue, but that's because I've not sinked a lot of time into it as of yet.

I recommend Demon's Soul, but again I know nothing of Dragon Age: Origins. I'd recommend watching some videos, and reading some user reviews. I can promise you won't be disappointed with Demon's Souls though.

Origins reminds me of WoW gameplay where as DS reminds me of zeldas.

The story line in Origins is pretty sick so far too. So much customization too.

I have both games but currently can't stop playing Origins. As for the graphics, well I don't think they are that bad at all...personal preferance I guess

Is there any story in Demon's Souls? Any will do. Other than an overall set-up, is there any reason to do what you're doing? Seriously, give Demon's Souls half the story of Dragon Age and it'd be no contest for me.

Not old fashioned, you just have common sense :] Too many people rely on graphics to decide on what game. I can't say I've played either of these games but I must say, DA:O is giving me headaches with the PC version and setting it up but Demons Souls looks amazing. Obviously don't take my word for it, as like I said, I haven't actually either of them.

I dont buy the whole graphics dont matter logic. Video games are a visual experience. Looks matter. They may not be the most important aspect, but they are an aspect.

Cant speak for Dragon Age. But Demon Soul's keeps me in the zone. You really need to concentrate because it is a very difficult game. But if your the gamer that tends to get frustrated than I'd advise you to be careful about your choice

Graphics do matter to me. Just not nearly as much as a well done game. It's not a matter of logic, just personal taste.

i agree with this guy. while i would never pass up a great game just because it had weak graphics i still think graphics are a big part of the exp. I spend 100% of my game play time LOOKING at the graphics thus i def like a game that looks great.

Essentially the story is that King Allamant XII awoke some Great Demon King from his slumber and began to cloud the world of Boletaria in a colorless fog and sending hordes of demons to the realm of the living to enslave, and devour human souls. You're objective as the chosen warrior is to slay demons, and break the curse of the Old One (I can't remember his name) and restore peace and tranquility to the land of Boletaria. That's just a summary just from what I've gathered. As I said I've not had much time to play it, but it's a great game all around. Trust me. I didn't care for Demon's Souls in the least, but I was wacthing my friend play it yesterday and it turned a skeptic into a believer so to speak.

I haven't played Dragon Age, but I am deeply engrossed in Demon's Souls right now, and can't recommend it enough. Don't let the hype about its difficulty dissuade you; though it's certainly not easy, it isn't as hard as it's being made out to be. It's a similar experience to watching a challenging art film; once you accept it on its own terms and stop comparing it to everything else, things just click. It isn't like playing some other game with the difficulty ratcheted up--it has it's own paradigm for strategy, and dying is just a part of that structure. In that sense, I think it's misleading to call Demon's Souls "punishing".

I have three names for you:

1. Demons Souls

2. Demons souls

3. Demons souls

Its the best RPG of the year. What are you waiting for ?

Dragons Age is no match for this game. The gameplay of Demons souls is perfect and thats the most important ingredient of a great game.

Demons souls is a Masterpiece. One of the best RPGS i have played this year. Out class voice acting and characters. i have finished the game and just ordered myself a collector edition which i will keep with myself until i Die.

I can still hear the voice of The Black Maiden and she keeps on whispering to me " That the world might be mended, That the world might be mended" , the game is past over but i can still dream of the tough knights in the Boletarian palace hitting me with there one shot Critical Attacks. Woww what a experience . This game has changed my life man. Unbelievable.

THis game has ended my thirst for RPGS the experience was so good. Being a hardcore fan of Final Fantasy my urge for FF 13 is gone because of this game. THis game offered me the same satisfaction i got from Final Fantasy. wow. Thats why its getting high praise because this game is Very Very Special and a casual eye wont catch the greatness of this game. Thats why many people are just telling you its ok because they dont knowwhat Demons souls is. Its designed for the Brave and the Intelligent. The Medium Hardcore class and above.

In my opinion, given the qualitys that you listed, Demon's Souls would be the absolute WRONG choice for you. It really boils down to slaying countless demons, and replaying the same levels over and over again to become proficient. For myself this is perfectly fine. I don't mind the grind. It also lacks a driving story, aside from what's delivered to you buy the occasional NPC. There is certainly the ability to rack up 100's of hours, but given your dislikes, you won't be inspired to do so... I'd go with Dragon Age if I was you. The visuals are certainly atrocious, but you get used to it once you dig into the gameplay for a while.

A) He doesn't like dungeon crawlers. Demon's Souls is essentially a Dungeon Crawler.

B) He likes sprawling epic stories. Well, Dragon Age has it, in bucket loads.

C) He likes making decision that effect characters and how they react to you. Demon's Souls... if you whack somone they don't like you. Dragon Age has a conversation system with countless decisions to be made, and people to either befriend or piss off...

D)Doesn't like Killing endless amounts of monsters....which is what Demon's Souls has to offer for the most part.

I absolutely love Demon's Souls, gave it a 10 and consider it my game of the year at the moment. But you need to take his preferences in mind when recommending something, not just your own.

Raven Squad loves Demons souls and i love Raven Squad because i love Demons souls.

ok coming to the point. Odd you dont like so many things. i never think like that. A Great RPG is a great RPG why are you setting restrictions i dont like this i dont like that. itsa bad idea to do that.

you have to see things in a broader picture Edoran or whoever the thread starter is and you dont have to set your things that you dont like this or that.Take them as a package.

besides if you like dragons age go for it. i have nothing against it.

:P I do agree with you there. Where you might not enjoy grinding in something like Diablo, you may find it simply addicting in Demon's Souls. It certainly doesn't control or play anything like the typical dungeon crawler.

I'm somewhat of a Graphics Nutcase when it comes to visual fidelity, and I do not mind the visuals in Dragon Age Origins (PS3) at all, simply because I am too immersed in the story and atmosphere to pick on poor textures and semi-robotic animatronic cutscene characters here and there. Considering I have both games (Demon's Souls and Dragon Age Origins), I strongly recommend one or the other. I have sunk over 100 hours in Demon's Souls alone, have gone through 2 NG+ cycles using two different characters, and I'm still not tired of the formula. There is a story, but it only serves as a backdrop for the gameplay experience to take place. Demon's Souls takes a more risk-reward based approach to the RPG genre, with a heavy emphasis on action. Dragon Age Origins, on the other hand, is probably the most epic RPG accessible on consoles I've played this generation, as Bioware's reputation for great storytelling indicates. There is tons of dialogue and text (I believe over 2 million lines of text), codecs that further explains the backstory and setting of the world you dwell in, fully voiced npc dialogues from anywhere. It's story is its greatest strength, but its graphics are its greatest weakness (it doesn't bother me though). The gameplay definitely feels current-generation though, and handles a much more tactical approach to combat than Demon's Souls. Essentially : Demons Souls Key Characteristics: - Great Atmosphere but many unexplained aspects to the deep story (implies more is happening, but doesn'bother to explain much) - Action Based Gameplay - Hard. Very Hard. It never feels cheap though, as you can learn from your mistakes. - Some form of online (you can PVP against players of similar levels, or join other people's games). - Can grind to max, all stats fully upgraded, all weapons and armor fully upgraded. - New Game + (and beyond, increasing difficulty by about 8% after the first NG+ cycle), carrying everything through (levels, equips, stats, storage) except quest items. - Visuals are acceptable. Dragon Age Origins Key Characteristics : -Great Atmosphere AND Storytelling -Tactical Gameplay -Can be easy, or hard, up to the difficulty setting. -No online (your profile is registered to Bioware's online server though). -You can't max out in this game (limited enemy respawn and experience points) -No New Game + -Visuals are somewhat lackluster (though the art direction is exceptional). If I had to make a choice, I'd get Demon's Souls, simply because Atlus is known to print limited copies of their games, and the game itself will become a rarity down the road (as do most Atlus-published titles). You can grab Dragon's Age Origins at anytime, anyway. It isn't going anywhere yet (but Demon's Souls runs the risk of running out of copies).

One thing i dont find correct in the above post is that Demons Souls Graphics are Acceptable ?

I think if you see the draw distance the scope. The kind of dragons and other things shows . The textures are High res mostly feel Photo Realistic to me. so i guess acceptable isnt right. I think its gfx are great . visually stunning i think. Just look at the first stage. The boletarian palace . its too good with the Roost and the Knight and the Bridge where the Red friend hits :-)

Yes, I am aware that Demon's Souls looks quite visually stunning, but it is not the best RPGs have to offer in the visual department. We've seen other titles like The Witcher and Mass Effect demonstrate much more visual fidelity in the graphics department than Demon's Souls. Sure, it may have draw distance, but the distant objects are heavily blurred and lack detail. Compare it to those titles and it definitely is not among the greatest. Still, I am thoroughly impressed by Demon's Souls, and its graphics do not hurt either. I'm just saying there are more impressive ones out there.

Dragon Age is such a great game, so far ive put about 26 hours into and im only level 12 on most of my companions. It is a very long game and you will want to replay it over and over again. The best thing about DA is the quests and ofcourse your companions. There are alot of quests that seem to intertwine with people or with another quest, or hell even your companion, thus makes the world feel alive and you care about your companions. The combat is great, very tactical and can be intense. The only problem with DA is the framerate issue, the graphics, and how overwhelming it is. The graphics im sure you will be able to look past but what I mean by it being overwhelming is that there will be lots of quests that will pile on into your journal and since there is so much reading in this game most of the time you will forget about that set quest until you get into a conversation with someone for the quest, or until you roam around long enough and you see "quest updated" on the bottom left of your screen. Then if you start talking to a character they might say something and you will not understand it until your dialog options come up, and that can kill the moment and it happens much more then you want it to.

As for Demon's Souls its great, the combat is super intense, it has amazing gameplay and great visuals. Sadly the story is lacking however this game does not really need a story, trust me once you try the game it does not need a story however it doesnt feel as alive as DA besides the online element which makes you feel like your not alone. Plus its fun to explore in Demon's Souls and basically its a sweet game and you will replay it most likely (im on my 3rd playthrough with 86 hours)

Bottom line just get both because they are both amazing games but if you had to choose I think you would like DA more since of the story telling. However Demon's Souls imo is better then DA, the gameplay is just so amazing and it really is addictive and poses a challenge, also the boss fights are so epic that it makes the game even more fun :)

oh don't be sore just because I killed you. it's all part of the game :P honestly more people need to invade. I'm spending to much time waiting for someone to invade me. I need to test my skillz. :) TC it seems more like what you want is in DA:O but don't discount Demon's Souls. Definitely try it out.

Dragon Age is freaking awesome! Demon's Souls is also a must-buy, why not get both? You really are missing out if you don't get both, which one you get first really doesn't matter.

Mass Effect was good looking? when I played it, it was dull with bad texture designs :P

Mass Effect is indeed a great looking game, especially maxed out on the PC.
