Demon's Souls PROBABLY going offline in 2011

This .... I'm wicked disappointed about this... such an amazing game, but it sounds like the servers will be offline after less than 2 years on the market...

EDIT: Changed the title for all the screaming little girls who can't handle reality. I guess the idea of making logical assumptions and intuitive leaps is ridiculous here. I didn't realize so many users had been lobotomized... my mistake

They said they are staying up until at least March 2011.

Just a random question but do any of the trophies pertain to online play at all? I was thinking about buying the game but I don't want to do so if the platinum trophy would be impossible to get once the servers went off line. Thanks :P

This is why games should be p2p so we dont need to worry about servers

I thought the games operated on a master server, which would be PSN?

I just bought this game with my new PS3 and have been really enjoying it. I also would have died 10 times as often if I couldn't see bloodstains or messages from other players - sad news :( It's $30 at gamestop currently, pick it up if you haven't yet!

id be upset if my old ps3 didnt break.. and the save is apparently locked so i coudnt copy it over to my slim... so i havent really touched it cuz id have to start over

Same here, I'm 20 hours in, have never been invaded nor have I invaded another players world. I'm very careful when I play so I don't mind if there aren't blood stains or clues as I can learn on my own. I can't really remember a time when I was absolutely saved by one of these features, but the online was still really cool just based on it's capabilities and how it changed online gaming in it's genre. I really wish there was more time left than seven months, but I feel like the game will be that much more dark and dreary with other players gone, further adding to it's morose atmosphere that makes it so appealing, to me at least. It feels fine playing offline so I don't mind too much, I'm just more annoyed with developers that market games with MP only to eventually shut down servers, this is the problem with online gaming. This is the reason I also have a nice library of games that I really buy for single player first, MP is a bonus.

Well not for Europe since the game just got released a month ago. NamcoBandia servers for Demon's Souls will be around for a lot longer hopefully. Hey I guess all you American gamers can move in to the EU servers, by that I mean import the Euro version when US servers shut down :D

If a game goes offline that has online-only trophies, the trophies will be unlocked automatically next time you start the game.

"At least" means that's the earliest it will possibly close. Not that it is. If there's still a lot of people playing online come March 2011, they might consider keeping them open for a while longer. If they do close them the world will look really empty without the little messages scrawled everywhere.

If a game goes offline that has online-only trophies, the trophies will be unlocked automatically next time you start the game.

Nowhere does it say that Demon's Souls servers are going offline at all.

It says that they're guaranteed to be up until AT LEAST March 2011.

The word "offline" isn't even in the entire article. In fact, the word "extend" is used to describe how long the servers will be up.

The title of this thread is VERY misleading.

Calm down, everyone calm down! I feel certain that as with most games the duration for which the servers are active will be dependant upon the popularity of the game. At least March 2011! That's ages away! Why...we could all be hit by buses before then. So enjoy Demon Souls whilst you can!

Id be mad but after upgrading my hardive and losing my Demon's souls save files I don't think i'll start another one. I had 3 files that were aleast soul level 150. If they put out a dlc i would play it again.
