I am completely new to Demon's Souls, but I am wondering where I should first start out in the game, what items/armor/weapons I should try to go after first, etc. I know people complain about the difficulty of this game; I got maybe one hit on the very first boss (the one you fight in the tutorial) before he slaughtered me, and I ended up in the Nexus. Now I'm annoyingly turned into a Soul and I guess in order to gain my main body back, I have to fight a major demon or something?:? I guess my next question is where do I get/or find a Stone of Ephemeral Eyes? I'm just sort of confused I guess. I'm just wondering what area I should start out at first.

Also, I'm playing as a female Temple Knight, so I'm wondering what a good build for a temple knight would be.

I have to say that despite the difficulty of bosses so far, this game is awesome! I love the armor and the architecture of everything. It makes me wonder how epic Boletaria would be without all the demons. Often I'll just find myself staring at the stonework and designs.:D

http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/ That website will be a huge help to you moving forward. For the time being, don't worry so much about getting out of soul form. And avoid anything that has red eyes..

Thanks. I will check that website out. What do you mean by "avoid anything with red eyes?" I'm assuming it's something bad. Also, I don't really understand what Soul form is. What is the point of being forced to return to Soul form?

Starting classes has almost no effect on the futur of your build. It only matters in which equip/stats you start with.

You could do pretty much anything, but templar knights are good for faith builds with blessed mirdan hammer.

Figure out your favorite playstyle and go with it though. You could go for a dex build, a str build, a blueblood build even, anything you feel like.

Look up the wiki that the guy above me posted. Immensely helpful.

I made a knight and used default armor/weapons (in the beginning I mean, my weapons and armor are different now) and had no trouble with Phalanx.

Just play through and beat the 1-1 boss.

From there you will be able to upgrade your character and can decide where you want to go with it. But my warning to you is to avoid the "even" build. Try to put most of your levels into 3 or 4 categories. For a Temple Knight I would go with Vitality, Strength, Faith and a little bit in Intelligence. Or you can choose to forget about miracles and just specialize in melee and go with Vitality, Strength and Dexterity/Endurance.

It's really all up to you to decide how your character shapes up.

Don't worry about the tutorial boss, you'll face him again later. Don't bother with a Stone of Ephemeral Eyes either, because everytime you die in a world when in human form, it gets harder. You're going to want to get the cling ring as early as possible, open up the shortcuts in 1-1, and decide on a build (most of this is covered in the wiki, but let me know if you want me to elaborate).

I'm more than halfway through the game and NEVER used the wiki or ANY kind of help whatsoever. It's a lot more rewarding if you figure it out on you own, much more time consuming but I believe this is the way the game should be played. The learning curve is incredibly steep in this game, the difficulty is brutal, but it's a phenomenal game. NOT for everyone though.

Personally I find the game should be played using the help provided by the devs. I usually summon someone into my world because i find it more entertaining and fun bringing down a massive demon with a buddy. I also use the wiki when i need help instead of repeatedly hitting my head against a wall so in about a month i'm through 2 playthroughs.

Whatever, I have no reason to lie. I have sold the game two times, this is my third copy. Believe me yet? I'm determined to beat it on my own completely, I have beaten every boss on my own with ZERO help, NOTHING. I'm currently stuck on Maneater and Old Hero, VERY VERY HARD. I will figure them out eventually though, just like the others, it just takes a lot of time. I have put more than 150 hours into the game and haven't completed it yet.

i appluad you for doing that.

but what im saying is.. what if you put all this work and after you beat it you end up not liking it as much for some reason... then all the work you did was fail because your left with a negative impression of the game. where as a person who used help maybe will enjoy the game much more.

id recommend not using a stone of ephemeral eyes just yet. dieing in body form again will only make the game even more difficult. wait until you feel fairly confident (read: dont need to make such broad questions on internet forums) until you use one.

most people will say that the royal is the easiest class to start with and theyre right. however, trying a melee fighter is just fine if youd rather do that. my first character was a knight and i did well.

I suggest you go with Royal. And use Turpentine, it helps ALOT on Phalanx. Hide behind pillars and heal your self. The first boss is pretty damn eays, since theres no possible way to upgrade your character until you beat him. (Then you can upgrade your stats and what not) Yeah, what the guy above said, any melee class will be the easiest, the game isn't hard, just INCREDIBLY ANNOYING if you dont know what to do. just make sure you keep your world tendency for all words at white - pure white eaistest way to do this, is, 1. DONT DIE IN HUMAN FORM (full Life, by either beating a boss, or using ephermor eyes) 2. ALWAY
S, i mean ALWAYS, after you beat a boss, go back to the nexus, and commit suicide, because if you die in human form on any level, your world tendacy will shift back to what it was before you beat the boss, and beating bosses is the only way to get white tendancy. I never had full life on ANY level when i beat them, or any boss, kuz i wanted to keep my world tendency the whitest i could. i had like 30 eyes when i finished the game (nearly every single one i picked up. If you choose a melee character, get ALOT of Stength, Vitality, and Enurance. When you beat the last boss (dragon god) on world 2 ( the mine), make sure you go back to th nexus , commit suicice, by jumping from a high distance, then go back to the Archstone ou killed the Dragon God, and get the Dragon Bone Smasher, it makes tis Game, INSANELY EASY. If you need alot of souls, beat world 4 (shrine of stroms) make sure its on white tendency or it will be pretty difficult to get thru, and kill the last bass on that level, the storm king, hes prolly the easiest boss in the game so dont worry, and you keep returning to that level and kill the flying mana rays, and you get 22,000 souls every 1 minute. Follow what i just said and you should PWN this game.

I actually love the game's atmosphere, it's beautiful and I appreciate the challenge. I'm determined to finish it on my own no matter how long it takes me. I also was pretty much a shooter only gamer and I kinda just dove into Demon's Souls. The only other RPG I have played this gen is Fallout which isn't very comparable to Demon's Souls. This is the reason why it owned me, but once I figured it out, I have nearly mastered the melee/parrying system and created a nicely balanced character with strong magic and melee. I have no doubt that when I eventually finish the game I will be extremely happy, it did cost me lots of money, time, and frustration but oddly enough it has been worth it so far so I know it will be worth completing.

The first "boss" isn't Phalanx. The first one is when you start out, and play for a little while, then you go into the boss fight, and you loose. No matter what. This is how you get to the Nexus the first time. Then you talk to the Monumental, and you meet the Maiden. THEN the actual game starts, and you fight your way through a bunch of enemies, before you meet Phalanx. I agree on reading the wiki, and no matter what build you choose, i suggest you get the falchion from the dark skeleton in 4.1, before fighting Phalanx. This would, however, depend on how strong your character is. The first time I met him, I just got the sword, and didn't bother to fight him. He would have crushed me. I am playing for the first time, and have just gotten a couple of bosses down, so if you need help, or just someone to bounce ideas of, mail me. :) Other than that; good luck. :)

Check out the Demon's Souls forum here on Gamespot. There's two stickied topics full of great information for beginners in the DS forum. And don't worry about that boss that killed you and sent you to the Nexus. It's supposed to happen. You can't kill that tutorial boss. I think you fight it again later.

just remmember to use the fire bombs on phalanx. try to finish the first chapter of each world before going to chapter two. as for tower knight boss u can deal with him or take 50% of his health to finish him by compound bow which u can find in the first level of the fourth world(1-4). for a weapon i prefer u take moonlight sword for ur first playthrough see the wiki. or u can have a blessed claymore. waste all ur souls on upgrading ur VIT. keep ur stamina good and ur strength to wield heavy shields, weapons. try to get ur maximum mana to 100 so u can use the second chance miracle(white magic). remember the wiki. work on these things and u shall be victor thats for ur first time next time u play the game u can do some complex guide to get maximum power. dont forget to see the boss before fighting him in youtube. hope i helped
