I see alot of people posting negatively about the Demon's Souls title, and how it's grammatically incorrect.

But is it really? I don't think so.

Most people (usually dumb) say, "Hey Demon's souls! your talking about the plural form for demon as well as plural soul, and this title is incorrect."

People think it should be "Demon Souls" implying the souls of demons.

"Demon's Souls" implies that you are speaking about a specific demon and his or her many souls. the same as if you were to say Mike's Pies, you are talking about mike and his many pies. Looking at the trailer for the game and seeing a woman bringing a lifeless body of armor back to life, it may be safe to assume that you, the main character are the demon, and you will be collecting souls.

I only bring this up because earlier in the week I came across a post someone made about this game and they literally said "I can't play a game with such a grammatically incorrect name." I don't remember the name but i'm almost positive they had a xbox game avatar.. go figure right.

so the lesson of the day would be... quit being grammar nazi's and bashing a game for its title before you even played it?? maybe??

With the apostrophe in "Demon's" then yes it is wrong. This would indicate that the title states "Demon is Souls", for the correct plural usage the title should read "Demons Souls".

So quit being a Nazi.

The "Souls" are being portrayed as the properties of the (single) Demon in TC's case.

Edited for incorrect use of grammer... grammar not grammer...

I know my some guy who usually uses grammar mistakes as a sort of come back. It's ridiculous. Also, go to gamefaqs. They love to make fun of one's grammer, but then the grammar mistakes the strange people make are just....impossible.

No its just a single demon. Try saying, cause it sounds weird at first. In a sentence it would be " Hey guess what Kevin. I got a demon's souls." What that is saying a single demon was in possession of multiple souls.

Wait, I think I'm confusing myself now. Gosh it still sounds weird. Okay that example was bad thats the problem. Sorry about that.

Isn't the apostrophe in "Demon's" make it a possessive noun? So the phrase would mean the Demon has Souls. It's like saying "Brian's car" or something like that. I think it's grammatically correct, but it just sounds weird is all. Then again, I am an idiot.

Yeah, I guess your right. I'm not really thinking clearly. In fact, I never even thought the title was grammatically incorrect until I read this thread.

Of course that's what it means, how could people not get it? Then again, most people don't seem to grasp the concept of "there", "their" and "they're" or "it's" and "its". If you wanna argue about bad titles, talk about "Lords of Shadow" the new Castlevania game. Of course you can argue that it means these lords are made of "Shadow" or there are multiple lords of a shadow realm which might make sense within the story. However, on its (

No, that's right. The apostrophe shows possession on the part of the demon and the things that he possesses are souls. Seriously shouldn't be confusing to people who took elementary English.

Actually the apostrophe can show ownership, Like Jim's house. So it would in fact be the Demon's souls if the demo were to have multiple souls.

Depending on the story of the game the title could be justified by TC's case or not. But in the meantime,

I see what your getting at but without the apostrophe wouldn't that mean more than one Demon? Like the lack of apostrophe in souls meaning more than 1 soul.

Actually the apostrophe in "Demon's" just makes it a possessive noun. The Souls belong to the Demon. For example, Ryan's car, meaning the car belongs to Ryan. It's grammatically correct, but it just sounds weird off the tongue is all. If you put a "The" before "Demon's" then it would sound a lot better, but alas, there is none.

really there's not much to understand, if your serious however i'll explain. people seem to laugh at the games title because it doesn't roll off the tongue smoothly and condemn it for being incorrect grammatically. i'm simply saying that the title is correct, the - 's - at the end of demon's is just showing possession. it's the exact same thing as if the title of the game was Bob's Souls.

Don't know why anyone would complain... If you want complain about a bad game title it's 'Infinite Undiscovery'.... that's probably the silliest title I've ever seen.

While we're being grammar Nazis, what you said is wrong, too. Your suggestion should read "Demons' Souls." The apostrophe doesn't disappear.

"Demon's Souls" works as well, if we're talking about one demon possessing many souls.
