I saw that movie in the theater, and personally, I didn't like it. I knew that somewhere, the screenwriter had a point that he was trying to make, but somewhere in there, it felt lost. I can see what he was trying to do - but it didn't cut it for me. *Shrug* It reminded me of Crash. Though not anywhere near as awful. If you liked Crash, you'd like Babel, I think. My girlfriend thought both were okay - I didn't like either. They're in the same vein, really.

GOD CRASH WAS AWEFUL! People tried to say how good it was, but when I was watching it all I could think of was, why so many B-level stars in one movie? Babel is a better version of the same tale, I wish the Japanese girls story was a little more in depth than it was. My main problem with the movie was how heavy handed everything seemed to be. Yes, guns are bad. If you shoot someone, something bad might happen. But even this sort of moral didnt hold true with the rest of the movie. Can someone give me an overall theme? Because I didn't really find an all encompassing theme. This is a way better version of Crash because we actually have really good actors in it. Other than that its a good movie, but everything is so heavy handed in its approach that its almost not worth seeing. See The Departed, that has a very good story and just won an Oscar! But yes, Im sure they both look very good on Blu-Ray.

Well, the theme, certainly, was supposed to be about language, the barriers that it brings.  Unfortunately, most of the movie I found bogged down in the story of the kids - Who weren't bound by language, just by their own lack of foresight, and some poor parenting.  Just sit them down, say "Okay, now kids, what don't we do with the Kalishnakov?"  "We don't point it at people."  "Good boys!  Now let's have some goat's milk ice cream!"  "Yay for not killing people and ice cream!"

I, like you, found the Japanese girl's storyline to be a little intruiguing, but a lot of it, really, was bogged down in its heavyhandedness.  Or, in certain cases, a desire to push that R-rating in a way that didn't feel contingent with the rest of her development.

All in all, I didn't care for it.  Just like Crash, I could see that the screenwriter had a point he was trying to make to me.  And just like Crash, it was poorly executed - Be that faults in the actual screenplays or the directing, or a combination of both - and felt like someone who didn't know what they were talking standing up on a soapbox for a couple hours.

That movie is worth a rental. I wouldn't care if it's HD or SD it's the same boring movie.

Crash was the best movie ever. Okay Second to Highlander.
