Did I miss something or is MGS4 very average?

I enjoyed MGS4 a lot, and for me it's really one of the greatest games ever. The gameplay was responsive and tight, and the story was awesome. Although I liked MGS2 by a slight edge. I guess MGS4 doesn't appeal to everyone!mfleury87

I really enjoyed MGS2 as well.

I just bought it last week, and don't really have a desire to keep playing as of right now. I've just been running through it shooting everyone.

I really enjoyed MGS2 as well.

It think people are overreacting here, this guy just shared his opinion, didn't means he is right (just didn't go far to check the problem) I don't agree with him either (Yes, he missed something/somethings). So just don't mess with him and enjoy the game yourselves. And yes, the whole MGS4 hate topics need to stop. I can agree after all I've seen from the game, its currently not a real best game of the year, but it qualifies for GOTY, and the best MGS game. I agree, sorry to do so (I am sure Ill be shot down as a newb or similar) but you unlike many, you missed very little. Having been a fan of the original MGS on the older platfroms I bought this straight off the bat. I have been playing platformers, FPS and tactical shooters and strategy for many years nowI found it well below par. and falling short of what could have been a ground breaking game.

First off the controls are awful, the inital level shows up the lack of fluidity in the main characters movements.

What no climbing over a wall that a small child would gladly leap over? Okay lets try sprinting then, I have seen old people move faster for their daily dose of happy pills. Snake is old but he is still an agent in the field and an agent who cant climb short walls or run faster than a one legged tortoise aint much use in my book.

Okay then lets try out the controls, fluid sexy stealth you say?, well most of the time Snake performs some electric boogalo break dancing moves while his enemies wonder why he hasnt garroted them yet. The control system was painful and slow, the camera angles were poor and swung around pretty badly as you end up in strange viewing situations. Why on earth the over the shoulder camera angle was chosen only Konami know.This random camera angle makes for heaps of fun as your enemies stumble across you.

Deadly combat you say?....Errrr not quite, the weapon aiming with the six axis feels like swinging an anvil around trying to swat a fly. Snake has no means of swiftly escaping or excuting deadly and extended blows. Instead he calmy jogs off through battelfields to find a nice quiet spot to lie down in till dark and teh nurse can bring him his cocoa and slippers...zzzz.... Instead you feel like some old geezer fumbling about in the shadows running around waiting for the enemy detection to lower. Any attempt to grab an enemy feels like you are an OAP who's had some sort of seizure as you try to grab your opponent or aim to kill. Must be terryfing for those enemy AI agents........ . As for taking multiple shots (bullets) its amazing how many direct hits Snake can take and walk away...man that suit is good.

The camo control was novel but really not that effective and pretty hit an miss when using it. Besides it did little to detract from a game that is primarily built on hype and a fanatical fanbase. Visually stunning but the cut movie scenes are really only for die hards as you sit waiting for the poor acting voice overs to end. This game lacks plent to make it stand out, it does win visually and is really beautiful to look at.

I have no doubts Ill be outcast for my thoughts, but this game really isnt that good in my opinion.

For me this is a case of the emperors new clothes.......no one can see it for what it really is.

Okay, I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I fail to see why MGS4 is heralded as the best game ever. Let me point out a few flaws:

The install:
Okay, I can accept that installs are sometimes useful, but MGS4 takes the p*ss! It feels like nearly nothing is loaded from the disc, hence the numerous occasions where you have to install more data to the HD. They say that swapping discs is bad... but so is having to install content after every mission!

The stupid shop system:
Seriously, am I just meant to accept that mid-battle snake can purchase items from a shop? And I am meant to accept that an invisible robot is ferrying the items back and forth? Talk about dragging me kicking and screaming out of the immersion.

Low res textures:
The graphics are not bad by any extent, and the models are lovely... but given that we are doing so much HD installing, why do I have to put up with sub-par textures on walls, rocks etc? Uncharted has NO HD installs and the textures are much better.

Tiny areas:
Again, despite installing 5 gigs of data, individual areas are tiny! Been spotted by an enemy? Don't worry, just run out of the area and re-enter and those pesky guards have forgotten all about you!

Snake can't climb 3ft high ledges!
The world is horrible un-interactive. The one button does all system means you have very little control over you actions. Snake can sometimes climb ledges, other times he can't - there is no consistency!!!

The clichés:
Okay, I know this is fairly standard MGS stuff, but the story is, for the most part, a walking cliché! And what annoys me most is that Snake, out supposed war hero that has grown up on the battlefield, seems so bloody naïve! He seems to be shocked by war and killing... WHAT THE HELL>??!?!

Basically, whilst I don't think it is a bad game, I just wonder why it is so highly rated???

Forums especially gaming forums are generally there to express opinions and every now and again opinions on topics can differ. I didnt see anything that was labelled 'Konami/MGS4 fans only' on this site or topic. After all its just a computer game, the real world is outside............ ease up and/or lighten up all :)

I understand, it would seem that there are some angry types about. I am no hater of this game just dissapointed, it has some good points but its not for me. I thought I'd post my thoughts, never expected all this.

You should of just said that in the beginning lol but if you said its not your type of game then it would have certainlly sounded better then exprecing your opinion in detail and upseting the fans lol. Neh, as long as people won't create hate topics about good games its all good.

I think some are too sensitive my post wasnt really that bad! :) Anyway Im done here, so its agreed that youll all act like adults, no swearing, be tolerant of others, have some integrity, be patient and stand for what is right. Agreed? Excellent I'll buy the first round of drinks and we can all wait for Fallout to be released!
