When I started playing Dead Space I was expecting it to be a pretty scary game, but as I play it I reaize its not scary at all. I think it is still a great game but not scary at all.

yeah I have to admit the sounds and music gave me (that little weird feeling down your spine...) through out most of the game especially during chapters; think it was, 9 n up. (The game sounds amazing with "Doby Digital" surround sound system) Overall awesome game and hope theres a sequel or even a prequel of how everything started (I know about the movie...)

For the first half of the first play through I was jumpy. The headphones didn't help that. Once the story unfolded a bit more it wasn't as bad.

Thats about how I felt about it. Everytime I walked into a room and heard whispers or the creepy lullaby the hair on the back of my neck stood up

I played it in the dark with the surround sound on, I thought it was pretty scary. Although just the right amount, not so much I didn't want to play anymore :) Love DeadSpace. I bought it on a buy two get one free special and it was my last pick and what a great surprise.

I thought it had its "scary" moments, not all being from monsters but different random explosions that caught me totally off guard when i was expecting a monster...other than that it wasnt too bad. If you want to play a scary game I suggest Condemned 2 Bloodshot, that game had me crapping my pants

Not at all. I assume that anyone who thinks it was scary doesn't have much experience with the survival horror genre, since there are much scarier games than Dead Space out there. Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly springs to mind.

If by scary you mean walking slowly around every corner with my flashlight lit and jumped about 20 times during the game, yeah.

It was jarring for me. None of the stuff was real scary, it was just jarring because enemies would pop out of nowhere every ten seconds. Eventually the pattern got tiresome, and I could not force myself to play it anymore.

I recommend you to play Silent Hill games (original or restless dreams) around 2:30 am until the morning.

I guess I would've been scared if I played this 3 years ago, same way as RE4 scared the crap out of me back then. The ideas in dead space is just "disturbing"? And there were a few areas where I wasn't sure what to do, but I wasn't really scared.

To me, Dead Space was very slightly scurrry. I was more "startled" when an enemy would pop out unexpectedly out of nowhere, than creeped out or terrified.

it's hard to tell if Dead Space is really scary coming from boys/men coz most of us are tough guys... only a few would really accept that "yeah... i'm a chicken!". the fact is, it's a very good game, it's environment, the sound... one of the few things that EA has done well recently. personally, i'm not much into space things and aliens (except for Starwars). but i got pretty interested with Dead space and i like playing it very much!

I'm a big fan of the survival horror genre. Played games like Fatal Frame, Silent Hill, Siren, etc. Dead Space was like a trip to the kiddy portion of an amusement park in comparison to these titles. Seriously.

How can you be that scared by those games though raven, like the original silent hill the graphics looked bad so it was totally up to the atmoshpere but usually if a game actually looks real its scarier i dunno its hard to explain

You just said how. The atmosphere. Also the pacing and the combat. I feel over powered in games like Dead Space. Playing on normal, I died once in Dead Space, and that was because I ran out of oxygen. I love my survival horror games to actually give me a run for my money. Actually have some sort of... SURVIVAL aspect to it. Dead Space had alot of blood, alot of guts, and alot of ugly creatures, but its gotta do better then that to scare me.

it wasn't scary. it was startling. it made me jump a couple times. just because of something random. but still it had a very good atmosphere and all around good...well everything. i can understand why some people might find it a little scary.

btw i played the game at night with the lights off, 7.1 surround, and nobody else around.

I found it scary but that was because I played at 1am in the morning and I normally get scared really easily. This is coming from a 13 year old.

If you play without surround sound the game loses almost all of its creepyness. The sound design in Dead Space is absolutely perfect. I get creeped out just walking around just because of the constant background noises.

I've played those, Dead Space and many other "scary" games, and I still say that a video game isn't scary.

Didn't scare me for the most part but the most terrifying creature in the game (you all know what) is probably one of the scariest moments I've had in game.
