I'm curious to how many of you have upgraded your hard drive disc on your PS3. I got the 40GB model as a present, so I didn't have the option to choose my model with the size and I'm thinking about upgrading it. Please if you did upgrade it, please state which original HDD size you had.

I'm have the 80gb model and I've yet to replace the HDD, I've yet to find a reason why, but I'm buying more and more games, I might have to eventually.

I went from the launch 60 GB to the new 350GB HDD I have in it now. It was not difficult at all to do there are many websites and such that give directions on how to do it. Only thing to say is be very careful with the screws DO NOT strip them or you are in lots of trouble. Good luck if you do upgrade. I have lots of multimedia stuff on my Ps3 from songs to movies and the 350GB is great to have.

I don't have the necessary papers at my grasp right now, but I also want to know if changing the HDD brakes the general warranty the PS3 has, or is this defined by the exact store where the system was bought?

Yep, I swapped my 60Gb for a 320GB. Changing the HDD doesn't void the warranty or affect it in any way.

I have two 80GB (1 Motorstorm Pack, and one MGS4 pack). They both have their original hdd.

The Motorstorm 80 in my bedroom has 40GB left so its harddrive will last a little while longer, but it will probably need to be upgraded by this time '09 :D.

And the MGS4 80 is in the living room for blu-rays/Rock Band when I get it for xmas so I doubt it'll ever need upgrading.

I upgraded my PS3 hard drive to a 320 gig HD & I have to say it was the best decision I've ever made! Here are 2 links for the Hard drive. The 1st link is the actual hard drive I bought(which is now $10 cheaper from when I last bought it!) while the 2nd link is the same model but it has 7200RPM & 16mb cache!

In terms of heat differences between the 5400 & 7200 model is quite minimal. Not a huge difference as most people make it out to be. Just keep your PS3 in a well ventilated area without anything cluttering around it! In terms of loading speeds, it's minimal but a second to 2 faster with loading & installing so yeah..... Anyways, hopefully this helps because when I wanted to upgrade to a new HD I wish there was someone who went over this type of stuff way before I made my purchase.

1st link: http://oyendigital.com/hard-drives/store/NN2-54-320-SWE.htmlWestern Digital Scorpio WD3200BEVT 320GB Serial ATA (SATA) Laptop Hard Drive 5400RPM & 8MB cache. Price $73.95

2nd link: http://oyendigital.com/hard-drives/store/NN2-72-320-SWE.htmlWestern Digital Scorpio Black WD3200BEKT 320GB 7200RPM SATA Laptop Hard Drive & 16MB cache. Price $89.95

Just choose either one of these Hard drives, get it, install it & you'll be set for the next year or 2 or until the life span of the console. Depends on how much DLing you'll be doing & such so yeah!

I have the 20Gb, but I upgraded it last year to a 250Gb. Great decision. I keep whatever I want on it now and don't have to worry about overloading it. By the way, I stripped the screw real easy. Don't even bother with a screwdriver, I got the screws off with needle-nosed plyers.

I had a 40 gb hdd. I have so many boxing fights, movies and music I wanted to store, so I got a 250 gb hdd for 90 bucks. It was super easy to replace, and it works like a charm. I still have like 110 gbs left.

I originally had a 40 PS3 but then later upgraded to 250 Gig. Best decision I made for my system. I later put the other hard drive in an enclosure to make it into an external HDD. I keep most of my movies in there so I can keep the new HDD for games and stuff.

I bought an original 60GB at launch and upgraded to a 320GB about 3 weeks ago. It's soo easy if you have the cash and your low on HDD space you can find 100 gigs or more on-line for about the price of a game.
