Do I need to get a PS2 and play GoW1 and GoW2 to understand GoW3 ??

I am getting so excited about it but I don't wanna be dissapointed as I was with halo 3. I didn't play halo1 or 2 and jumped directly in to halo3.I was lost, and I still am lost.

What do you think guys ?

In order to understand 100% GoW3, you'd need to play the first two, but you could get away with just playing the second one to understand the third.

Go out and play them both. They're still amazing games for how old they are.

I jsut checked the backwards compatability on the sony site and god of war 1 and 2 work with the 80GB ps3. So no need to pick up a ps2. Although i did jsut re-buy a ps2 after selling mine.

nah Chains is not very important for the story...it's just more back story. 1 and 2 will explain exactly why Kratos is where he is and doing...what he is doing xD.

Storyline wise, it would help, but it's not a massivle storyline focused game so it won't matter to much. If you don't want to play the originals, read a plot summary online, but I would recommend you play the first two if you can - not because it will help storyline wise, but because they are awesome games.

Really now? I could have sworn it was since people always complimented the storyline.

I think all you'd really need is God of War 2.

It will help you quite a bit. Kratos and the individuals he interacts through the first and second game are all tied.

It's worth experiencing both God of War games as well as Chains of Olympus on PSP.

doesnt matter which one u play. after u play any of em your going to want to go out and get them all. to me gow is sonys current flagship game. especially now that mgs, tekken, and dmc are no longer ps exclusives.

The new ones do not. Only the ones with 4 usb ports do. I believe he was talking about his own ps3.

I just played GoW for the first time a week ago. It looks amazing STILL running in proscan/widescreen on my 65" TV. That says something. And the gameplay was absolutely awesome. If you like Heavenly Sword, or any of the Ninja Gaiden type games, you will love this series. I can't wait to finish up part 1 and get onto the rest, not just to get up to snuff on the story but because the game is tons of fun.

GOW is a very story-driven franchise and you won't appreciate GOW3 as much if you don't play the first two. You won't be disappointed either. ;)

I guess I was asking because everyone seemed to know who Helios is and I had no idea.. That sounds great. I'll go get a PS2 as soon as possible.

of course, just like any movie or video game series, you need to play or watch from the beginning. You can find both for under 30 dollars brand new. have fun playing Gow1+2

I like the look of God of War 3 aswell, and I haven't played the previous games. I wouldn't bother.
