The biggest difference is the sound, I have a 60" sony 1080p, and I probably noticed a slight difference in color, but neither is better or worse, but component cables use standard sound, I think HDMI puts out HD sound, it's loud as F, but since your only on a 22 inch I don't know how much sound you really want put out, If I were you i'd just stick with the gold plated components

I have a 55" Sony Grand WEGA LCD Projection, and I have both HDMI, and Component connected. When watching movies, I use HDMIso I can upscale them. When it comes to games, I use component. The reason is due to the color blending. A good example of where to see this is the purple wave background when playing music. The upper part of the screen has shades of purple, and lines between each color difference are noticable. When using Component, I don't see that. The HDMI still looks great, and that color blening issue is a pretty minor problem, but it's easy to switch between HDMI and Component, so I do it to get the best picture possible for each situation.

All in all, the difference between HDMI and Component isn't a big one. In my experience, Component is the better one to use.

I use Logitech's Z2300 Speakers for sound (love them) It's nice because I can have HDMI plus Component connected at the same time, and use the speakers for either one without moving cables around. Just have to change the sound setting from either HDMI to Component. The sound quality of HDMI is definitely better, as mentioned by the poster above me, but only if you have the receiver, and speakers to support it. It can support 7.1, and the best sound quality.

I don't know if any TV's have this yet, but the PS3 supports HDMI 1.3 which is said to produce fantastic color and overall picture clarity. I'm wondering if it's really going to make that much of a difference.
