I'm planning on buying a Ps3 really soon, as soon as friday and so I checked the prices at EB Games and the 40 gig and the 80 gig cost about the same. I am right confused at the moment. I asked the guy at the store about the 80 gig and he said it does have backword compatible thing. I just wanted to know whats the difference between those two? They both cost 399.99. Help me out, thanks.

The difference is only the HDD space. The 80 gig has........... 40 more gig than the 40 gig.......XD
Anywho, only the 80 gigs MGS4 Bundle Pack has retro-compatibillity, so be careful not to get ripped of;)

Harddrive size, new 80GB only has 2 USB ports and no memory stick reader, both have no PS2 backwards compatibilty. Just buy the 80GB they are the same price because the 40GB was discontinued and since they are both 399 why wouldn't you buy the better one automatically?

80gb - bigger hdd space (40gb more), dualshock(i think.. not sure though), not backwards compatible

40gb - smaller hdd space (40gb less), sixaxis, no backwards compatibility

So just buy the 80gb. Theres no plus the 40gb has over the 80gb.

My basic understanding is that the 20Gb, the 60Gb and the MGS4 80Gb PS3 bundle are the only versions that are bc. The 20Gb and 40Gb models don't have media card readers, adn the 20Gb model doesn't include wi-fi (802.11b/g).

The compatibility of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 format software titles for use on the PLAYSTATION 3 varies by model as follows:

PLAYSTATION 3 models

Hard Drive CapacityModel NumberUSB portsBackwards Compatible

160GB CECHP01 2 No

80GB CECHK01 2 No

80GB CECHE01 4 Yes

60GB CECHA01 4 Yes

40GB CECHH01 2 No

40GB CECHG01 2 No

20GB CECHB01 4 Yes

You either buy the limited backward compat 80GB bundle at $500 or get a cheaper model at $400 + buy a PS2 for $129.99. Or just get a used slim PS2 from craiglist for less than $100.

umm i might as well just get the one for 400 because i dont have enough cash...and my next pay is in about 19 days >_>

does having 2-4 usb ports mean how many controllers can be plugged in or do they have a different slot for that?

more ports just mean convinience which most poeple don't need. Yes, controllers plug into those. But you would be play with the wireless controller most of the time anyway. So I don't see any reason to have more than 2 USB ports, although I got the original 60GB one that has 4 usb ports.

dont listen to the guy at the store.... 40gb is the old 'standard' console,, it has no BC and comes with regular sixaxis controller

the new standard is the standalone 80gb, which has double the hdd space (obviously), NO BC and comes with dual shock controller..

the only consoles with BC are the MGS4 Bundle and motorstorm bundle (both 80gb,, both $100 more than previous 2)

Id get the $400 80gb one, DO NOT GET THE 40GB!!!!!

I like having 4 USB ports. I can have my 3 controllers plugged in as well as my PSP (to transfer files and data) all at once. I also like the fact that you can turn off a controller and turn on another fully charged one, or just use my 10' USB cable while I'm sitting on the couch cause I don't always trrust the wireless while I'm on a roll gaming (but that's just me).

However, you could always just get a USB hub for extra controllers if you felt the need.
