Alright could someone just lay out what each version is all about? Like the 20 gig doesn't have wifi or a card reader or something like that, when they came out with the new ones I got a little confused, and now that I have some cash from Christmas I am thinking about picking one up. So which ones are backwards compadible and which ones have wifi, and all that good stuff.

Thank you in advance.

20 and 60 are discontinued so that's out. The 40GB doesn't play PS2 games while the 80GB does. It doesn't have the memory card readers and only 2 USB ports instead of 4. You can upgrade the HDD though, 80GB comes with motorstorm too. I'm pretty sure both of them use the new Cell chips which consume less power.

Just get the 60gig version.

If you can't find it, then the 80gig version will do. But, i really recommend you the 60gig.

No, seriously, the 40gig and 20gig models are just limiting the consumer on what the PS3 can really do.

i say just save up another $100 USD and get the 80GB instead of the 40GB. its just much more convenient to get rid of yor PS2 and just use the PS3 for all your Playstation needs. at some stores though... there are still 60GBs out there... which should be around $450 USD. the 60GB is the best version, but might be scarce.

It's limiting me because i can't watch pictures from my camera? :|..................unless you mean by charging 4 controllers at one time? :|.................other than that i bought a Ps3 to play ps3 games, not Ps2. :|

Also take into consideration TC that the 60GB will consume more power and the 80GB plays PS2 games through software emulation so some of them might not work.

I thought the 65nm chips were only on the 40gb for now.

hahaha, what a lucrative reason in not buying a 60gig.

i find it weird that sony gives you 3 choices but the other two are halfassed deals so you have to go with the best one and in the end yourgetting the most expensive version. nice marketing sony.

basically only the older 80gb models could play ps2 games.

Currently I don't think any ps3s in production now can play ps2 games.

You only have one option left dude, the 80GB. The 20, 40, 60, and backwards compatible 80 have all been discontinued. Only the new 80GB without BC is left at the moment. If you want one of the other ones be prepared to do some internet searching.

Only the older 60g and 80g are BC. The newer models are not BC. It is really difficult to find an older 60g or 80g in the general marketing stores today. Hopefully, in Sony's next version it will be BC. But if you already have a PS2 then BC really doesn't matter. Get the highest gig possible. You cannot image how space goes so quickly. Good hunting and hope you find what you are looking for.
