You just have to replace them with X1 sticks lol. Suprized they have universal connection.

I've replaced one of my DS4's with Xbox One thumbstick nubs. And yeah, from experience I can say it took an hour or so to get used the new sticks (it feels like playing on stilts at first) but after that it's clear sailing. The Xbox One replacements have held up perfectly over months of beating with no real change (though I find they get gummy crap stuck in the grooves, so if you have unhygienic/greasy people you share your stuff with be careful!).
The first thing I did was put aftermarket rubbers on tops on the sticks. Just starting to wear after 2 years and that extra millimetre of height makes all the controlling difference.
I think the best fix is getting a current revision DS4. They supposedly fixed it (without any announcement) a looong while back, and I can confirm that my 2014 Black Friday bundle one is still going strong with almost zero sign of wear.
I got the Destiny Bundle and I think the DS4 that came with that console is the revised one. My thumbsticks don't look or feel worn at all and I like the feel of them.

@juboner: Yes, I'm on my 4th controller.
And yes, I take care of my controllers, my original DS/DS2/DS3 still work and they've been dropped lots of times. In the case of my DS3, the 8yr old controllers still hold a longer charge than the DS4's.
You take care of your controllers but drop them lots of times?

In 20 years, your bound to have dropped the original DS a lot of times.
People are missing the point here.. Yes, the DS4 is a great controller, but the thumb stick grips are garbage. I've had 2 rip and I don't even play my PS4 much, usually on PC... You can buy a 2 pack of Grip-Its for 5 bucks or cheaper that fix the problem very easily..
I have a Xbox Elite Controller so I actually have a couple extra pairs of XB1 thumb sticks, which I would gladly use to replace my DS4 thumb sticks.. Too much work though.
Either I have a revised controller or i'm just very careful, as I've had my controller for almost a year and the thumb grips are pretty much intact
Same here, no wear or tear whatsoever. My friend has an older model and his controllers have suffered noticeably.
