The head of Playstation is a very disappointing person. How can you let the exclusive rights to so many games go?

Virtua Fighter 5, GTA IV, and DMC 4??? And now they are "Discussing" the rights to Final Fantasy XIII... What is he thinking?

If he lets Final Fantasy go, It will, Sadly, be the death of PS3.

Yes, but It was the same person that lost the franchise to Microsoft, Which led to GTA Being on the 360 instead of the PS3 only.

GTAIV ... last time i look GTA3, GTA: VC and GTA: SA is out on PC + XBOX + PS2 ...

VF5 and DMC4 ... yea they lost them as exclusives ... but the games are still out on PS3 ...

FFXIII ... they basically said FFXIII is not yet a secured exclusive -- yet atm its still exclusive and their discussing way to form a contract to keep it exclusive ...

True they will still be out on PS3, but why pay $600 bucks to play it when you could play all of the exact same games on 360 for $400?

The problem is that these threads cover up many threads that say the same thing and also get on the first page and you have to go through 100 of the same exact posts just to find the one you may be looking for it does get irritating most of the times.

It's not that bad if you think about it, my perspective is that games like DMC and Final Fantasy are really huge in Japan, and if consumers in Japan have an option on which version to buy, they will go with the PS3's.  Really, it's just a way for developers to make more money because some people only own one system, and this brings more variety to gamers. Yeah, Final Fantasy would be a loss I never saw coming, but I doubt that will cause Sony to flatline.  Also, PS3 has some new exclusives coming.  Please note, this post is not intended to slam Microsoft.

Because the failure rate of ps3's is about 3% compared to 20% for the other system?  Because of the bigger harddrive and wifi?  Or maybe because the person also wants a blu-ray player.  Everyone is different and there are plenty of people including me willing to pay more for the extras.

I know a lot of people care about exclusives like I do, but it's not exactly Sony's fault due to the fact that the 360 has a bigger install base because it has been out for a year, but I know tons of 360 fanboys where I live who don't even know about Sony exclusives and all they know are like the big 360 titles that's it.

Ok. I am talking about the people that dont have Infinite money to spend on hobbies. Think a christmas present or something like that. Is a parent likely to spend $600 or get the same thing for $200 cheaper?

Actually it has to do with increased development costs and an initially small userbase.

Well, it just shows that the time of third party exclusives is nearing its end. There just aren't enough PS3's out there to guarantee the kind of attach rate these high-dollar games need to make it worth producing them. People need to just let it go.

The success of previous consoles is just history. It doesn't matter how much money companies made in the past. All they care about is what they are going to make right now.

Well they do have a lot of money off of PS2 and PSP, but the TV and Movies division are seperate from Sony's game division.

In a manner of speaking, yes. Something had to pay for the R&D costs of the PS3. And the money to advertise the thing. So that money, for the most part, is likely gone. Sony would have a hard time justifying paying $25 million or more per exclusive to guarantee that the developer doesn't lose money.

Third party games can never really be called exclusive. The companies that make these games have the option to multiplat at any time, there is no "buying the rights to a game". When a game is made they will decide which console or consoles are going to sell the most units and that's where the game goes. Games like MGS (not implying a 360 release) can be offered on other systems if they feel the PS3 will not sell the desired amount. (Do not turn this into a 360 can not handle *said* game) It is all about money first and system loyalty last. I do not think the next installment of MGS will be ported over, although possible, because I believe the PS3 will eventually be a great platform to solely sell a third party game. Why multiplat it, if the PS3 can sell millions, and waste money on porting it?  I guess my point is third party is never exclusive and will be released multiplat if the companies involved believe they need to to sell the game.

This is why Sony is really concentrating on establishing and building a great 1st/2nd party developers because they realise that a lot of their 3rd party exclusive games are going to be lost. We just have to accept the fact that Microsoft has firtsly a larger fanbase so devs will get more money and secondly have a lot of money to push devs around. I think that things should even up once again once ps3 builds up its fanbase and all the negative press clears.

the people who make these kind of threads are 360 fanboys in disguise, just ignore the posts and don't say anything, 0 replies and it will go down. what they want to see is us suffering and replying by feeding them with replies, if we ignore them, they will get mad because it's as if nobody cares, come on you guys, think smart.

Exactly, I am mad about Sony but there are too many Topics and the more you see the more you get annoyed. Why not continue an already started Thread instead of making your own and flooding the Board.

I'm saying this not to be reassuring, but this is the truth and this is coming from a guy who loves 360. No matter what goes exclusive, I will still want a PS3. It is an amazing system, I just have a problem with the price, but eventually I will buy one. Theres more than just those exclusives lost, the PS3 is awesome. The system is great especially with blu-ray.

you people need to quit crying about losing games to the 360. its a logical business decision. and thats all it is, is business. it just makes room for sony to have new games with better content specific to the ps3. as long as sony produces enough games from their own publishing house then i wont be dissapointed with whats going on. and to be honest if i didnt have a system and wanted to play a game that was on either system i would go with the ps3. it will ALWAYS be better then XboX IMO!!!!
