I took Disgaea 3 out from my library and i have a question? Do i need to play Disgaea 1 & 2 to under stand this game later on?

nope they're all self contained, but there will be little references here and there to other games.

Not really, unless you just want to know about the characters from the first and second game that appear in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness 3. I recommend getting all the download able content if possible.

Not really, unless you just want to know about the characters from the first and second game that appear in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness 3. I recommend getting all the download able content if possible.

I would have to disagree with that second sentence about getting all of the DLC. For one, the majority of the DLC characters are characters from the previous two games (which the TC hasn't played it seems) and other NIS games; so he wouldn't be familiar with them. Second, aside from the nekomata/dragon classes and the two survival/command attack modes, basically all of the DLC isn't even accessible until beating the game and entering into the post-game scenario.

The fact of the matter is I just like to get all the download able content for a game I buy.
