I love Disgaea games. However, Disgaea 4 looks like it will be so loaded even I will get lost in the menus. I mean I didn't even reach level 9999 in Disgaea 3. I doubt I'll be able to put a dent in Disgaea 4. Sorry but I'll break my tradition of day one buy on this and wait a while, like 2 weeks.
I so can't wait for this game. I have the premium edition pre ordered and paid off for. Next week is gonna be awesome!:D
because jsrpgs are extremly niche? Anyway, my fav genre, pre-ordered figurine set as soon as I was able to

Odd for something that's "extremely niche" to sell over 200k copies (talking about Disgaea 3). Many games don't sell even near what Disgaea 4 achieved in its first week alone, it sold 79,425 copies by the way.

It is extremely niche. 200k copies isn't that much by a long shot, in fact it's very little considering most games aim to break over a million. And 80k in the first week isn't surprising considering it was released in Japan where that kind of game isn't as niche as it is here. And many games sell well over 80k in there first week, it's not nearly that uncommon. Its a turn based strategy rpg. Ever play final fantasy tactics? Its like that but more crazy. This trailer will explain. http://youtube.com/#/watch?v=_EbghemGI1IIve heard about these games but never played them, i generally like jrpgs, whats this game like??

Shouldn't base the entire game industry off of the top games.

And that's supposed to be representative of most games? Those are extremely niche titles thus why they sold so low and not to mention I haven't even heard of 5pb(not to say I know everything but I'm pretty well informed about companies in the gaming industry). I don't want to have to insult your intelligence by posting the actual definition of niche but I'm getting the sense you're not really aware what niche means. Christ, Valkyria Chronicles, which was basically considered a failure sales wise by Sega, sold almost a million in it's run. Vanquish sold over 800k, Bayonetta sold over million, are you telling me those are blockbuster games? Catherine sold 200 000 in the first week! It's not a niche game?Every publisher that's kinda well known aims to break over a million copies with their games. It's getting more and more expensive to produce games nowadays and soon enough it's gonna either be a blockbuster or an indie game. Anyways, back on track, the Disgaea games are absolutely niche titles. They target a very specific audience and they set their budget accordingly. They probably don't need to sell anything over 150k to make a return profit. Disgaea 4 will probably sell well in its first week because those who love those kind of games will buy it day one but after that, it will plateau.

If you never heard of 5pb, a publisher that actually publishes niche games then don't try to lecture me about what a niche game is. If you haven't heard Sega is a very large publisher, they expect high sales because they're large. Atlus is large too, hell Cathrine had tons of advertising, and I would barely call that game "niche".
You want to know some niche publishers/developers?

There is no exact edefinition :/ But in gaming niche usually isn't defined by the sales alone, of corse a niche title sells better if the publisher does a good job. By your logic the virtual Boy has pretty much just niche titles because they all sold horrible.

There's a definition for niche, a niche game is a game that appeals to a small amount of people. Something cannot be extremely niche and sell well, as there wouldn't be the audience.
Also your analogy was really bad, and each of the publishers/developers I listed focuses on niche games. There are games that sell lowly because a small amount of people see the appeal, and there's games that try to have a large audience but sell poorly.

According to Wikipedia:A niche market is the subset of the market on which a specific product is focusing; therefore the market niche defines the specific product features aimed at satisfying specific market needs
200k is nothing on a system with a userbase of over 50 mil. sold sytem, it's around 0.4%. Unless you find any EXACT definition of niche on which everyone agrees on there is no definition of nicht other than *it's aimed at less consumers than other companies in the same market*
So the Disgaea seris has always interested me and this 4th one looks really good. but i have never played a single Disgaea game before so would i need to play the others to understand the story or is it like the Persona series where each game has a completely different stories and characters from the previous ones?

The stories are always stand-alone and might just have references to earlier titles, usually most of the characters are new as well, only Disgaea 2 had Etna from Disgaea 1. I'm pretty sure Disgaea 4 is designed for newcommers to the series, at least the trailer promisses that.
@ the guy having the game already: Hope you enjoy it :) To bad I'm from Switzerland and that I'll have to wait until it finally arrives :(
So jealous! How the blazes did you get it so fast? I ordered mine the second it was available just like you. :x Well they were shipped out last week I believe because they said they had to charge everyone on Aug 24th. Maybe I am just closer to their distribution center. I live in Louisiana. Just be checking out for your mail over the next couple days.[QUOTE="CajunShooter"]

Looking forward to this game but i may cancel my amzon pre-order since amazon.ca saying they'll bring it Sep 17th :/
You expect a game that is not named Battlefield 3 or Skyrim to get hype this year?! Don't get your hopes up..ACx7
there are tons of game other then those 2 that are getting tons of hype. I mean there is this one game, you might of heard of it, called Uncharted 3. And not to mention others like Dark Souls and Batman Arkham City
Mine finally came today. Man those figurines are smaller than I thought but still cute. I like that the voice acting is toned down considerably from Disgaea 3.
Now, about the DLC from the premium editions...I couldn't find a code or anything, so is Flonne already on the disc or what?
