Im buying a PS3 soon and I'm about to move up too blu-ray and high def. content. I believe my TV is 720p and my friends dad gave me this silver cord and he said its for the high def stuff.

1. So you plug the HD cord in to the 720p TV and the PS3?

2. Even though its not 1080p is their still a difference in quality that is notciable?

3. So all i need is the 720p, the PS3, the expensive High-def cord, and a game, then im good to go for high-def gaming?

Any information would be greatly appreicated.

Well if the screen is smaller than around 42" you won't see the difference between 1080p and 720p. Also you don't even need a expensive HDMI(which is a High-Def cord), you can get cheap ones no difference really between a $80 cable and a $10-20 cable. Most PS3 games only run at 720p anyway.

yes the silver cord is most likely a HDMI wich is what u want. yes games look great in 720p. only time u will see a deffernce between 720p and 1080p is on very large screans. and yea that should be all u need. now to get online with it you will need a eathernet cable or a wifi router.

Yeah, it's not like you'd be missing out on anything if you've got 720p. Be happy with it, I know a lot of people who still use SDTVs. :(

Yeah its progressive scan, which is better than the plane jane 480i. I got the component cables, but I'm missing the major component....the TV.

720p will do just fine but 1080p with a screen size of 46" and bigger makes a pretty big difference. I upgraded from a 32" 720p to a 46" 1080p and the picture is more crisp, sharp, and clear. It feels more immersive too because the screen size is so large. This coming from an Xbox 360 and PS3 owner. With PS3 games, 1080p really shines. Sure, most games do not support 1080p but it upscales. Games like Heavenly Sword, Lair (1080p), Ninja Gaiden Sigma (1080p), and others look a lot better while games like Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, looks pretty much the same if not better in 720p. It all depends on your settings, brand name of TV, and model. I have the newest Samsung Model, top of the line right now, and this model produces a better quality than Sony.

In short yes. I love 720p. We have a 42 inch Sony and it supports 1080i, but I really can't tell much difference between the two. 720p does look good though!

1080P games for this console generation is almost nonexistant (a few sports and fighting games,, thats about it),, so yeah 720P will do just fine

It should notify you when you start the PS3 that HDMI is connected if not then you'll have to go into settings and set it to go through your hdmi. It will ask you what format your tv supports.

Look, I've got a 50" TV, native at 720P, and the PS3 still looks awesome. Ratchet and Clank was steller. No worries on the picture. I agree the cable itself (as in price) should not be an issue. I had an about $20 Apple cord attached for awhile, looked great, but since it was cheap, the cable wore out. That's the real concern with cheap cables, they may wear out quicker.

Yes, both the PS3 and the 360 has like a little message on-screen that tells you what hi-def setting you're on. If you miss it you can go to the HD settings menu and see for yourself, and change between HD and SD if you wanted.

Well if you want the picture to look better and faster, you should get the gold HDMI cables. It works better in every way.
