Do HDMI cables really help that much??

I don't care what anyone says, HDMI doesn't look any different than component cables on HDTVs smaller than 32 inches.

I totally agree with that statement, but you have to admit that it at least some visible differences.

Agreed. At that size, it probably won't any difference. Especially not enough to warrant the price of more cables, assuming you have already upgraded from the stock cables found in the box when you bought the system. Now, should you upgrade at some point to a bi**ing 40 something size TV, I would seriously consider the HDMIs. I did, and I love it, for movies and games alike.

All I can say is.... you can get an HDMI cable for like 5 bucks. You've got an HDtv... Might aswell use HDMI right? Theres one of two outcomes to switching. You notice no difference, or it looks better. IF theres no change, your out 5 dollars. Big deal.

To me, I think there is a more clearer sound if you ask me, but a very slim to none difference visually on something that small. Now if we're talking a HDTV 40 inches and up, HDMI is a must.

There's a slight improvement....but nothing worth fussing over....if you have a decent sized tv however, then it will make a world of difference. Get it all the same...its really cheap at amazon.

I bought mine for $2 last year from amazon and it works just as good as the one I had before it that cost me almost $30.

I went to Best Buy where they tried to get me to buy a $60 one, so I went on Amazon and got one for $4.

Seeing as HDMI cables are dirt cheap to get to begin with, why not? I mean it will cost you like $10 for the cable.. In all honesty I find it hard finding component cables for that cheap.. Just make sure not to get a HDMI cables from places like Bestbuy, that is the biggest scam I have seen where they are trying to squeeze anywhere from $60 to $100 on a cable you can get as cheap as $10 with minimal difference if any in performance..

To play devils advocate here, I'm of the belief that it's going to take a pretty good sweep across the "quality" board before you're going to see a degradation in quality. You're standard Analog cables are going to see noticeable differences at the $10 brackets of prices differences, but a digital signal (carried by the HDMI cables) are foolproof enough that a $50 cable is going to look the same as a basic $5 cable, assuming it wasn't made from recycled Mt. Dew cans. :)

Even if it doesn't make THAT big of a difference on your tv, its also easier to plug in/out of your TV. Its just one thing to take out instead of the usual 5 for components.

Alot of that supposed cost mainly has to do with signal shielding from outside interference.. Something that most people don't have to worry about.

Ah probably is my TV that it shows what you throw or is that I have super vision ( lol ) but when I use the cheap HDMI cable that my Home Theater came with it looks like super highlighted and when in lots of action/fast paced parts it looks kinda chopped but when I use the other HDMI cable it does look better, same with the movies. Isn't what they call transfer rate??

Well, it's certainly not impossible for a company to make cheap cables that carry a bad signal ;) don't get me wrong. I more meant that a lot of companies, like Monster, make cables that they tack a flat out embarrassing price tag to that really don't offer anything inherently better than their cheaper competitors, at least in the quality department. They offer a better cable, to be sure, but chances are, the end result (the quality of the picture) really isn't going to be better in a normal household situation. But again, there really isnt much stopping a company from producing a genuinely cr**py product. It is, without a doubt, possible that someone handed you the short end of the stick, so I'm certainly not calling you a liar (and I'm truly sorry that happened). Generally speaking, though, in this case, a higher price is not necessarily buying you a truly superior picture. That is all I was getting at. :)

We have a 42" Panasonic plasma and yes I did notice a difference-especially at 1080p,games do look great for sure.I think I spent about $70 on the cables, but there is Monster cable out there for close to $200,thats when you start getting picky about transfer rates etc and to be honest for the price I didn't notice any improvement. If your T.V. is smaller than 32" don't bother

Ah, see there's your problem right there. If you sit too close to the TV you'll go blind, sell drugs on the streets, slap up some b****es, grow hairy palms, and the goblin that lives in your nose will bite of your fingertips. Or some combination there of, I stopped listening to my parents at 3, so I might have mixed some of those up :D

Just get a regular HDMI cable, not too cheap and not expensive as well... and see for yourself. you should be able to see it coz as i understand, you're using the standard cables as of the moment... its good. i did the same way too... though i have a 40" samsung... what i've noticed first was that the colors became brighter... just give it a try.

I've a 55" projection LCD tv. was playing GTA4 when i decided to change to HDMI cable. made a huge improvement for me.

i use optical cable for sound to get 5.1 output. the combination is bringing the best out of the PS3 form me..

though the quality of HDMI cable didn't make much difference for me. used sony's 30$ as well as a chinese 5$ cable.

When I forst got my PS3 I plugged it in with a scart lead, It looked gash and after half an hour I went down to the supermarket and picked up a HDMI cable and it looked 100% better. A component cable will be fine too.

I agree completely. But my brother claims that he sees a difference ever since we stopped using our component cable; he probably has a better eye for these things than I do.

not really, if you want high end stuff just buy from bluejeanscable, otherwise monopeice is just fine. You'd have to use a pretty long cable to actually see a visual loss of quality as I use 12ft cables and don't see a difference.

[QUOTE="Flame_Blade88"]I don't care what anyone says, HDMI doesn't look any different than component cables on HDTVs smaller than 32 inches.Flame_Blade88

I have a 32" and I saw a HUGE difference.

Read my post again, I said "smaller" than 32 inches. Not 32 inches and smaller.

I don't need to reread you post. I read it correctly the first time.

Yes, there are subtle differences in the picture quality but where the real difference is in the sound, especially if you have a surround system. If you don't and only have stereo sound through your tv speakers you can still tell a difference. So yes to me HDMI cable is worth it. But don't be fooled if you happen to find a cable for 5 bucks then just keep in mind you get what you pay for. Mostly HDMI cables you buy at the store run around $30.00-$60.00 depending where you go. I wouldn't buy any HDMI cables on Ebay at all. Trust me those are really cheap cable and unfortunately I'm talking from experience. I hope this helps.;)

[QUOTE="Myzz617"][QUOTE="raven_squad"]All I can say is.... you can get an HDMI cable for like 5 bucks. You've got an HDtv... Might aswell use HDMI right? Theres one of two outcomes to switching. You notice no difference, or it looks better. IF theres no change, your out 5 dollars. Big deal. nakedzombie69

With that being said there is a difference with the cheap ones and the expensive ones.

Difference is in brand and the end connections. Monster cables are better than the standard 5dollar cable you could by online...

I'd rather get a $5 cable from monoprice then pay $50-$100+ for a monster cable. Monoprice has 1.3 HDMI cables and high speed 10.2GBPS and they are much cheaper while still having good quality. Theres no difference in picture quality between a cheap and expensive HDMI cable.

Simply put, a ps3 on HDMI makes the thing much easier to put up with, and you don't have to deal with any artificial limitations on what you're able to do with it. As much as I hate the idea of a video connection with DRM at the hardware level, the reality is that we don't have a viable alternative, and it's not like another company would be allowed to make an alternative PlayStation that would grant 1080p BluRay playback over component video without getting sued like hell from both Sony and the MPAA (who basically demanded HDMI on the market).
