The PS3 doesn't have a "built-in" HDMI cable. Get one! But don't listen to the Best Buy employees (that's where I went) because they will rip you off. They'll try to sell you some special $70 dollar cable, when the $30 Dynex will do the same job. You can probably find one even cheaper online.
But yes, get one! You will be blown away by the clarity at first. I was.
Search new friends I guess :P Either he has no clue and shouldn't give advice or he's trying to fool you. Get the cheapest HDMI cable you find, best thing you can do
Yes. Do not even plug your PS3 in until you have one! As said above, DO NOT buy at bestbuy or any big retailer. You can pick them up at smaller computer stores or online for as little as $10.

This person speaks truth. I was able to get a 6-foot one that works perfectly off of Amazon for $4, including shipping.

def reccdomend getting one, i got one for $3 online and its a world of difference in quality when gaming
they dont come with hdmi cables. just with the basic composite cable. seeing as he has a 55" hdtv, i would HIGHLY recommend it. its only 3 bucks...You really do need to buy a seperate cable, they don't come with the console itself.

Which is a shame IMO. Seeing that you can buy them for $3, the manufaction costs have to be pretty low, most likely below $1. If Sony promotes the PS3 as only real HD system, they really should have included one :/

ya you probably want an HDMI cable but don't buy from retail stores get it online for ~$4-$10.I plan on buying a ps3 slim in a week or two, and I just wanted to know if I need a hdmi cable to play on my 55 inch hdtv. My friend told I don't need it because ps3 has it built in. So do I really need to buy a hdmi cable?zatchbell101Yes... you should get an HDMI cable... but try using those standard AV cable and go and test your games... then, go and plug it with an HDMI cable... see the difference for yourself so you can appreciate 'em...

Feel free to explain, where exactly he is wrong? the cable transports the data as a 0 or a one, it's digital, there is no loose in quality as long as the data arrives clear enough to be identified as a 0 or a one. There is no analog signal and it doesn't matter how horrible the signal arrives as long as the device(s) can see wheter it's a 0 or one. There are tons of tests between the HDMI cables and all say that they all deliver the same quality. Only thing that may differ is the specification it supports. Not really sure what the PS3 uses, guess it was 1.2 iirc, but all cables around support it :/
