After Gabe Newell came on the stage at Sony's press conference Tuesday to reveal Portal 2 with Steam support, do you feel happy that Valve is trying to make a turnaround with their support or do you feel envy with rage for them talking smack about the PS3 years ago?

What I'm referring to is that are PS3 owners happy to inform Valve on making Portal 2 with Steam support or do they feel like they've been cheated throughout the years of missing great games from them is what I mean.

It's pretty funny how people are treating him now, before his E3 appearence some people made fun out of him but suddenly those same people are saying how cool he is.

At the time yes,it was a little irritating to hear them talk about the PS3(EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A 360 ALSO)but just as others have said...we need to look to the future now.

Don't have a position on it, funny though that Newell acknowledged his earlier comments and poked fun at himself. Now let's get Left 4 Dead!

Portal 2 is coming out later on PS3. During a 1up interview, they said that portal 2 would be out May 2011 on 360, PC and Mac. I don't really know what the advantages of steam or steamworks are but, I doubt that Gabe Nowell has changed his tune about the PS3. He is eating his words about PS3 being similar to the Sega Saturn. He claimed that Sony lost track of what consumers wanted and made things difficult for developers. Now that PS3 has sold almost as much as the 360, He is being forced to change his tune. Every other game company has figured out how to develop for PS3 and he is the only one stating that the system is still too hard to develop for. They had another person valve state that they don't have enough resources in order to develop for the PS3. Yet in the 1up interview they said that valve has over 300 employees or something. If a small company like Hello games created Joe danger and this consisted of 5 people, then I am sure Valve could develop for PS3. The PS3 might have a different structure for developing games but from what I have heard, once you know how to do it, then it is not so bad. I don't understand where valve is coming from.

I never had a problem with him. He is an amazing developer. I'm going to buy portal on the PC, but I think it is stupid how people were all "LOL look at that loser he won't develop for the PS3." Now they are all "Gabe Newell is teh gaming god!"

I think he can still eat it. Its cool that he finally woke up and got with the freakin' program, but it still doesn't change the fact that he's been talking out his @$$ for the past few years.

I would be a liar if I said that I was ever "angry" at Valve for largely ignoring the PS3, but I'm pretty happy now. Portal 2 is just one thing, but the leadups that should follow including the introduction of Steam on to the console will be simply fantastic. And why not? The PlayStation is quite different from other consoles in that it enables more developer freedoms with a certain degree of hardware customization making it the powerful multimedia device that it is. Unreal Tournament 3 evidences this with it's trailblazing modification support, and as one of the most powerful PC game developers with it's own fantastic distribution services makes this a natural match. I'm hoping for big things from the partnership. I think that Valve's announcement for a partnership is more important to me than any other game announcement was.

Valve games are meh, so it doesn't affect me as I won't buy any of their games. Plus, I am not paying $60 for a 4 hour game in Portal 2.

Never cared for the Newell bashing as he has brought way too much to the industry to be bashed upon.

Move forward.

EDIT - In the past I think I bashed him aswell, but I never had a gaming PC then. ;)

This.

Edit: I use Steam but have never purchased a Valve developed game from it. I have Portal, but I got it for free when they were offering it free as some sort of special. Hopefully they'll eventually do the same for Portal 2 because Portal is a great game that I enjoyed a lot. I won't pay $60 for P2.

Yup. The past is past, but if Valve is turning around then so be it. It's a welcome change. Portal 2 on my PS3 is everything I could have ever asked for from Valve. :D

Forgive? I don't see how I was "personally offended". If anything, he just made himself look like a jackass. I mean, going around playing "system wars via internet forums" around the media doesn't exactly make you a creditable or professional person in my opinion. Any guy who has time to float around without anything productive to do or say aside from barking "Console A sucks" can't be too good for a dev team.

I sure as hell know I would not want to work for a person like that. "Who cares if you think Sony sucks! We've got work to do!"

Now I owned a 360 before I had a PS3 and even though I mainly play PS3 anymore I nver really felt like I had been screwed over by valve. Of course I did own The orange box on 360. When I saw the guy from valve up there I was like ok so now you're going to support this system after ripping on it. But i'm really more of a forgive and forget type person when it comes to these types of thing. So yes, I do support valve and will buy their game when it comes out. Hopefully other PS3 owners will do the same.

I like to see a source on that. Portal 2 is going to be a lot longer then Portal plus the co-op is going to have a different campaign so that adds some more replay value there.

I guess you just can't please people. Valve doesn't want to work on the PS3 and people complain, Valve wants to work on the PS3 and pretty much admits they were wrong and people still find a way to complain. It is sickening. Just shut-up and let Valve work their wonderful magic on the PS3. Be glad that we are getting something from them. You act as if Valve were the only game companies to complain about the PS3 at a period of time. Hell at least they were honest, how many game companies from the launch of the PS3 to around present day have said something on the lines of "The PS3 is a great machine blah, blah, blah. We can do this and that this and that" and then when the game comes out it is a crappy port that you were suckered into buying for 60 bucks.

I'm just going by basic math here. People have beaten Portal in an hour to an hour an a half. The video here, link says that the single player doubles the length of the first game and co-op is the same length as the single player campaign. Add those together and you get about 4 hours.

It was funny to see Fat Gabe eat my favorite kind of pie (humble) - does that mean he has now eaten all the pies?

Portal 2 was the only thing from Valve that I was interested in so I'm happy now.

It depends. If Valve continue to release their games on the PS3 (and after the things he said at th E3 conference, I'm sure they will) then I think most will forgive Valve. However, if we continue to miss out on games like L4D, I'm sure most PS3 gamers will be annoyed.

I found Portal boring and I know I'm not the only one. There will be some who just play it once and return it back.

If anyone actually hated him prior to announcing Portal 2 for PS3 then you need get off your pc and go get some fresh air. It's nothing to get angry over; games are games.

I don't know what I should be forgiving them for. They never hated on the PS3 like loads of mindless fanboys have claimed. All Gabe ever said was that the PS3 was hard to code, he also said that he did plan games for the console. So this was never a shock for me and I don't blame him for the PS3 being hard to code for.

I would like to see what comes of the 'Steam support' - if it's as fully-fledged as some are speculating, then almost certainly. I don't think any companies ever need to be 'forgiven', because at the end of the day the only person it really hurts is yourself if you individually boycott something (although, admittedly, if anyone ever did manage to organise a significant boycotting, that would be something). Despite this, it doesn't change the fact that he's completely contradicting a lot of what he's said in the past about the console, particularly in terms of online features and how 'open' the console is.

"The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted," Newell told Game Informer magazine. "I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a 'do over'. Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it.'"

Why? its all for the money. What about Half Life? Its his opinions on the PS3 and thats it many will disagree but in the end its the for the money and so they will publicise the strengths of that console version for that.

I've never had a problem with Valve, in fact there one of the best developers out there in my opinion. What I had a problem with was their big mouthed founder Gabe Newell. While I respect him, I don't care for him as a person.
