First, I must say that I am quite pleasantly surprised with how quiet the ps3's cooling can be. But at the same time, I have to wonder if maybe Sony should have traded some of that quietness for better cooling. Compared to my 360, my 60gb ps3 puts out the kinda heat I feel could roast an egg in its shell  It's certainly a lot hotter than what the xbox is doing, and certainly well beyond the Wii. So what kind of aftermarket cooling should I get for this thing?

None. You can damage the unit and several websites have studied the PS3 under extreme conditions and not had them fail.

Hot air coming out is a good thing. It needs to be in a ventilated space (ie front and back open to air) and you should have not difficulties.

Mine heats up the top of my entertainment center considerably, but it isn't hot enough to cook an egg.

The thing noticeably heats up my room when I play it for any serious length of time. That's why I want to get something to help draw out that heat from it more efficiently.

agreed, and if i'm not mistaken, that could even void the warrenty.

The heat that's being removed from the PS3 is a good thing because it shows how well the console is designed. I never turn my 60 gig PS3 off and it hardly ever get's that hot. I have the cosole standing vertical in a open area.

I bought a small personal fan (spprox. 6 inches) and put it behind mine to help pull the heat off my PS3. It seems to be working pretty well.

Guys I think it is okay Some times when I feel like it needs some cooling I have small fan I turn it on to with low speed and I directed to the PS3 Body to make it cooler instead of make aimit to go in the PS3

You could see how the PS3 heat system Work from you tube

Look for: Why the Xbox 360 overheats and ps3 don't.

By the Way Guys don't get 40GB PS3

It has 2 USB- not 4

Or ps2 playback

And the worst is it don't have vents on font "overheated faster"

One more thing

The 40 GB don't have Flash Card Reader

Do you think all that Worth to pay 100$ less than the 60

I have a 60GB and I have it in a fairly closed position. It can get air but its not as good as what some of you people have been saying. I thought they had an alarm in them though, so when it got too hot you knew to turn it off? I've never had anything happen to mine and it seems to run at a constant temperature, like, if you play for 2 hours it doesnt get any hotter than if you've been playing for 5 hours...
