Y argue with them when you could make a quick call or email to someone high in the company and laugh at what happens to that store or the employee

I dont concider arguing fun. I actually see it as a waste of time. I much rather correct them if I see them misinforming people but never just to call attention to their ignorance. and I only do it if I can immidiatly back it up with accurate information and state a source becaue the worst thing I could do is fail to accurately state my case in their home court.

Given all the threads I've seen about the anti-PS3 information that EB Games is dishing out, and the fact that I've bared whitness to it a number of times myself, I sent a long e-mail to their corporate consumer branch. Will it do any good? I doubt it. However, there is the slim posibility that they will do something about it. Here's hoping huh?

I think you're an idiot arguing with an EB/GS employee. Do you argue with real estate agents, car sales persons, or when you're buying tv or other electronic devices from the salespersons? I don't think so. It's pretty sad that a console will make you so upset that you need to confront and argue with them.

It's always funny to me when the guys I know at Gamestop trash talk the PS3, because none of them have one.  They only play the one in the store.

I'm not an idiot, nor am I anybodies fool. Sometime there are sales people who try to talk you out of what it is that you want (either through salesmanship or personal bias). I do my research on the electronic items that I want, so don't try to tell me what it is that I do and don't want. If you have an opinion, that's all well and good. I will not be dictated to (now that I'm divorced :)).

Y argue with them when you could make a quick call or email to someone high in the company and laugh at what happens to that store or the employeeKurupSoldr
 if you believe something happens to them when you make this call, you've yet to learn the cold truth about how the world operates. If the manager at a store allows the employees to speak freely, then that's the way that store is going to be run - frankly though, I appreciate it. Look, let's be blunt, you might not like that the PS3 isn't on top right now, but are you *really* so tied into your purchases that you let the detractors bother you? Is it that hard to admit that $600 is a lot of money for a system that doesn't have its best games out yet? I could have made *the same* complaints about the 360 a year ago - and they would have been right. In fact, I seem to recall hearing EBGames employees saying some pretty nasty things about the 360 when it came out. Before the PS3 price announcement it was "wait for the PS3, it's going to blow the 360 out of the water." The really glorious thing about them being free to speak is that a lot of these guys will be *honest* with you about games and accessories, especially if you're a regular at that store. Meanwhile, on the other side of the coin - if you complain at a store like Best Buy, the employees get the ramrod. On top of that, employees at Best Buy and Circuit City are judged on how many games and accessories they can sell you - it doesn't matter if it's an accessory like the Intercooler, that will do more harm than good, or if they attempt to sell you a $100 HDMI cable, knowing that it sells for $100 online. They will do whatever it takes to sell people useless junk, and then sell them a worthless service plan - one that charges them $60 to get the same treatment that Costco gives every customer (you can return an item to costco years later). So no, I don't *argue* with EBGames employees. I do talk with them, and frankly I've never seen anyone "bashing" the PS3. I did have a manager tell me he has plenty of them if I'm interested in buying them. I said "eh, there's not any games out yet" and we talked about the general lack of games (this was two months ago) and when we thought the situation would turn around.

I work at an EB and for the most part my store is Pro Sony. Out of the 6 employees we have, 3 of us own a PS3 including myself. One doesn't own a PS3, but loves the system and would love to get one eventually. Two have a 360 including one of the guys that owns a PS3 as well. And our manager owns a Wii. None of us ever try and change someone's mind when purchasing a system. If anyone ever asks us which system is the best we usually simply say that it is all up to what you want in a system and then explain what is unique with each system.

Here in Australia it seems most people working for EB games dont bother me much about what i buy -- appart from plain ignorance about some things ( Like games supposedly not existing ... ) you dont get much fanboyism ...

I don't even buy anything from gamestop or ebgames unless it is a strategy guide that I can't find anywhere else, the store organizaion is horrible, the overall employee attitude is the exact opposite of what it should be, I feel like instead of wanting to help me, they want to make my life harder, they sell used games for 5 dollars less than what they are worth new, thus pocketing $45 - $55 to themselves and none for the company that actually makes the game, and, what the hell is up with the freaking stickers on their game cases, I still can't figure it out, it's like they had a huge corporate meeting and were like, YEAH!, PEOPLE WANT HUGE ASS STICKERS ON THEIR GAMES TELLING THEM TO SELL IT BACK TO US AND THAT ENVELOPES UP THE ENTIRE ART COVER, MAN GLAD WE GOT THAT FREAKING GENIUS IDEA!7CloudStrife7

yeah, that stupid stickers even on new games sometimes .... WTF ?

good thing we have BestBuy, in which they sell as much of games as eb, and with excellent service attitude

I think its funny cause I never had a problem at the eb or gamestop I go to on a regular bases. In fact when I wanted to buy my 360 about a year ago they were trying to make sure I didn't buy it cause they didn't have any titles that was actually worth the system at the time. I just think its where you guys live and the people who work there are fools. Especially when its all about making a sell. WHy would they push for a less expensive system when they are going to get at least 500-600 from the PS3 alone? Doesn't make sense.

Anyway, I like the people at my store. Very well informed and they only tell you the truth about all systems.

This is a common misconception that people have. "I'm spending $600, you're making money, why aren't you licking my boots?" The truth is stores *do not* make money on PS3 / 360 console sales. They make all of their money on game and accessory sales. So, it doesn't hurt them to steer you away from buying a console - though I don't know of any stores that will say "you shouldn't buy that console." And their reasons for steering you towards consoles that have more "must-have" games out right now? Now it makes sense, right? When the PS3 has more games out, I think you'll find the EBGames attitude towards it becomes more positive. Remember, these guys aren't making a lot of money - they could go get a job at any mega-electronics-retailer and make more money, they work there because they're gamers. And just like any other group of hardcore gamers, games sway their attitudes more than anything.

They are salesmen. Their job is sales. They arent consultants. Unless someone asks for the opinion, their opinion should NOT be offered. ESPECIALLY if someone just walks up to the register and say "get me a PS3 please," obviously indicating that they have planned their purchase and are ready to buy. Any gamestop "manager" worthy of their high school diploma or 2 years at votech would agree. If some obviously clueless old person comes in and ASKS what an employee would recommend for their childs birthday present or something, then it is fine to offer guidance. GS/EB stores have relatively high rates of employee turnover so I dont expect much from their employees anyway.

That showed him.

People actually still support gamestop.  They rip people off all the time, the re-seal used games and sell them as new, they use new boxes for a shelf diapay while the cd is in a case behind the counter, and if its a ps3 game that in a dirty case.  How can people buy a new game that has already been open.  Not to even mention the money they make from ripping peope off from the dirt cheap money they give you for games and sell it back at 50% more.

Please people do not give this company your money, and I didint even mention the many people the persuade not to buy a ps3

It must totally suck to be you guys. The people at my local Gamestops and EB Games are totally awesome.

There's one of each (wtf?) in my local mall, and there's one guy that works at both - Whom I believe to be a store or higher manager - who does exactly all that stuff. If you don't want to BS, he'll just ring you up with the usual pleasantries. And all of the employees are like that.

On the other hand, if you ask for any recommendations, opinions, or what have you, they'll freely let you know what they think and why they think that, and if you're trying to make up your mind on something, they'll talk about the ups and downs of each system/game/whatever, and try to steer you towards something that's more you.

For instance, I talked with the aforementioned manager guy and a female employee at EB Games about the DS vs. PSP for a good fifteen minutes, as I've been trying to debate between the two. It was nice not having either of them foaming at the mouth for one or the other, but made a much more levelheaded and openminded approach about it.

There's only been one employee like the kind you have all mentioned that I've ever dealt with. The "y r u bying that lol this game/system sux" type. He was staunchly annoying, and I distinctly remember going to buy Resident Evil 4. I'd seen him around and heard his crap in the store before, but I never personally had to deal with it, and I don't have that kind of patience.

Him: "This everything?"
Me: "Yeah."
Him: "Man, Resident Evil? I hate this series. The controls are so stupid."
Me: "They've revamped everything for this one."
Him: "Doubt it. I hate these games, they suck so bad, and on the GameCube..."
*Note: He was just holding it, hadn't rung it in yet*
Me: "Um, could you please shut the **** up and ring it up so I can go? I don't care how much you don't like my purchase."
*Note: I really really really wanted to get home and play it :P *

He looked at me kinda weird, as did the two other employees who were working at the time - Whom I know by name, because I go in there so often - but he finished my transaction in silence, with a "Thanks for coming to Gamestop," met with a get effed from me. I never saw that guy again after that day. >_>
