Do you believe the PS3 might really be more complicated to make games for?

Even though this is not sonys fault that third party companys are bringing out their games worst on the PS3 than the 360 I still think it might really be a problem. There are alot of developers that say it is very complicated to make games for the the PS3. Do you think developers will ever get the hang of the PS3 and have games coming out every other week like the PS2 or will this be a problem for awhile?

Just put your gamer opinion not your fanboy opinion

If the hardware if better, than it is entirely possible that it is more complicated to produce for. Keep in mind, a technological system like Wii, which isn't that big of an improvement, is relatively easy to develop for since they know the hardware already as it's essentially a beefy gamecube. I don't actually think it is harder, I think it's just lack of experience.

PS2 was hard to develop for but look how it turned out. PS3 is actually easier to develop for then PS2 but like all new technology it needs time. by then end of the year developers will get the hang of PS3 development, after all PS3 has only been out for 6 months, give it another 6 :)

The PS2 was also as hard to develop for, and we all know who won the pervious generation console war. It just takes some time for the developers to get used to programming for the PS3, I can't even imagine how awesome the games will look like in late 2008 and 2009.

Here's my take.  Cell Programming is relatively new. So I wouldn't say harder, but just different.  Because it's different completely new dev kits must be created.  Trying to work without the proper dev kits can be extremely frustrating.  These dev kits already exist for the type of programming necessary for the multicore processor of the 360, and are starting to be made properly for the cell of the ps3.  Sony has already released the first dev kit with what they called PS Edge at GDC.  And already even Ubisoft has been reported as putting out games that are up to par. (IGN has claimed Vegas runs smooth and GRAW2 plays and looks just as good as its 360 counterpart.)

No, the Ninja Gaiden Sigma team already said that that was just an excuse and not true in the least.  Its in my EGM or PSM, cant remember which one.  PS3 is just something everyone likes to hate right now.

The Cell is completely different to any processor that came before it.  It isn't your standard RISC processor with a CPU (or multiple CPU cores on the same die) so of course it is going to be difficult to program efficiently.  I can't wait to see what the developers do once they get a handle on the way the Cell works.

One note. The Cell processor is designed for more then one thing. It is also used for other applications. It is thus designed for the future. Which mean, if there ever is going to be a PS4 it probably still contain a Cell processor. A more advanced one, with more SPE's and maybe more PPU's but basically the same architecture.

This means that in the future, it would be easier for developers to make games for it.

But this is just speculation.

Two new pieces of technology to work with.  I would say that it starts out hard, just like most.  Devs are already getting the hang of it and are praising the PS3.

BTW, not all ports have been worse on PS3.  There's just some bad games out there: Spiderman 3, Godfather, Blazing Angels, etc....

It's not really that it's harder, it's mainly that it's different from what they used to. Adaptation to new things is always difficult for some, and for the others, it still takes some time to adjust. The other two consoles are closer to what they already know, so that's why it's "easier".

The PS2 was in the same situation in 2000. I even heard many reports from devs saying that the PS2 was even worst mainly because the PS3 has better libraries than its predecessor.

They said that because they found a way to do HDR and AA at the same time. Something a lot of devs were having problems with. Now that they've figured that out, it should be available to all devs and games will slowly become easier and easier to program on the ps3.

It's harder than the 360, because to fully use the cell, you have to assign the processes to the right SPE instead of just having the system pick any of the idle cores. At least that's my recollection of a tech article I read months ago.

But then again, many PS2 developers have stated several times that it's easier to get the hang of than the PS2.

It just takes time to get familiar with a systems structure, most of the first party devs are trying really hard and succeed in making great games, but alot of multiplat game devs just don't care enough, when a game is only on one system it has to be good, if a game is on 4 or 5 systems, if one version sucks they still make money off the other 4.
