I'm talking by the sheer amount of games these days. Especially when they are $60 a pop. Even if you wait a while to pick up a game, it is usually about $25 to $40. Granted there are exceptions. Anyway, I feel like every year I look forward to quite a few games, but I never get to get them all. Factors like time and money usually end up haulting my gaming experience. I always have a set list of games that I want, eventually other games pop up, and my list gets moved around and jumbled. Then I end up where I am now. I've been looking forward to Arkham Asylum since it very first came out, yet I haven't been able to get it yet. I've been to busy with other games (some newer, some older). The same goes for Demon's Souls. My question is, do you feel overwhelmed by the amount of good games there are?

The old me would say yes, the new me says no. I am now only purchasing games that are 25 bucks or less and I don't care how long certain games will take to reach that price. Take Mass Effect 2 for example-- I would have been all over that yesterday like white on rice but i will wait for a price drop

Not really. Don't get me wrong I'm just like you, there are tons of games each year that I'm looking forward to but I usually do research before buying one. Such as comparing cost to time I'll get with the game. Very little games are worth $60 to me so I wait for deals. I waited on Enslaved because I didn't think the length of the game or replayability sounded like it was worth the cost and it wasn't so I'm happy I got it for $25.

Games tend to go down in price pretty quickly and unless it's something that I want to get my hands on immediately I'll just wait. Unfortunately this year there are several sequels that I can't wait for - Arkham Asylum, Elder Scrolls V, Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2, Uncharted 3, Infamous 2, the list goes on and on. Hell, I just got Mass Effect 2 and the Sly Collection ($40 for 3 games isn't a bad deal imo) so it's already costly. So I understand how one can feel overwhelmed, but I just kind of go with the flow.

I'm addicted to the whole trophy aspect as well. Though I don't always try fr 100%, but if I like the game, I'll try and obtain as many as I can. Some just aren't worth it though.

I am in full agreement with Parvie's assessment as there was a time that I had to buy every game on my wish list on Day 1. Now, I simply cannot afford to do so and even when there are times that I could afford to do it I simply just wait for the price to drop (because I know they will-eventually) It's seeing a particular game go from $60.00 to $39.99 to $29.99 to finally $19.99. I agree-Mass Effect 2 IS a day one purchase but I look at it as WORTH the purpose-but later when the price drops. Good things come to those who wait (or have to wait in my case).

I'm the same way. I haven't paid full price for a game in years, and contrary to what people seem to think, it hasn't cut into my enjoyment of games. I can play more games now then I could before, and for a fraction of the price.

I still have a large backlog, though, and it does get overwhelming at times, trying to figure out what order to play them in as well as finding time to play them all, but at least I don't have to worry about fitting in those brand new games as well.

this. Though the ALWAYS part is only more recently becoming the norm for me.

Theres simply too many games and not enough time. As a 'gamer', its easy to feel overwhelmed nowadays.

I had to discipline myself, so this hobby was not so much of a waste of time and $$$. Now i make up a mental itinerary and plan out how im going to play games out, how much time i have to finish a title. ect... Its basically a gaming schedule of sorts. I choose only what interests me the most so that i know i will get the most out of my time with that game.

It takes away the overwhelming aspect of gaming quite effectively if i do say so.

lol. Yall have a lot of trophies. I only platinum games i REALLY LOVE. My four Platinums are UNCHARTED 1 & 2 , GOD OF WAR 3 , and DEAD SPACE. So I think I'll have 2 platinums this year. Dead Space 2 & Uncharted 3. I just hope to reach LEVEL 14 by the end of the year. Atleast I have a platinum, and better, more than 3

Sometimes But there is no way I could play all of the great games. Even if I had the money to buy them all. Lucky its seems that prices do drop somewhat quickly these days. But I have to finish the games I have now before I get some more.

It does kinda feel overwhelming. I just picked up 6 titles in the past day (One was sly collection, so 8 games in all), who knows when I will get through all of these, but by the time I do, Everything that is current that I want will have price dropped insanely. I cashed in on the amazon buy 2 get 1 free and best buy, so it averaged out at about $12 a game for me, which I feel you can't beat. I do feel overwhelmed though, as there is still titles I have prior to these that I haven't completed (Borderlands, MGS4, GoW2, Brutal Legends).

I wait for price drops on everything, I try not to pay over $30 for a game. However, I did buy GT5 full price and do not regret it. As long as Nascar 2011 looks good next month I will be dishing out full price for it as well.

Dude you can get Demon's Souls brand new for 20$ at gamestop which is very well worth it, even cheaper used. Also, yes I do sometimes, gaming is definitely an expensive hobby but the amount of entertainment hours per dollar is pretty much unrivaled in my opinion.

Heh, I must say I am such a bargain bin gamer. The only reason I have a huge backlog of games is because I buy impulsively from bargain bins. I don't have time to play them, but they're there if I want to. I don't feel overwhelmed because I'm not in a huge rush to get to them. I'm plugging away at Uncharted right now, goodness knows when I'll finish it. I'm a very simple gamer: play when I can, buy when stuff goes down.

I was overwhelmed by my gaming backlog when I was single, then I was even more overwhelmed when I got married. My husband and I have a HUGE backlog of games to finish. Four shelves of video games to finish for 5 consoles and 2 handhelds. It doesn't help that I have Dead Space 2 pre-ordered, and gift cards to Gamestop.

Nope. I can never get enough. I may not have enough time for every game I want to play, but I know that eventually I will play it. Heck, I'm still catching up on games that came out 10-12 years ago.

As far as I see it, gaming isn't really one of those hobbies that you have to be totally up to date on constantly. Sure, its nice to be able to talk about them with friends, but I get a lot more enjoyment out of them knowing I spent less than $20 for it (I never pay more) and can take my time exploring each one fully before moving on.

The worst thing is buying a game on day 1 for $60....and then by the time you actually play the game, it has dropped to $30. This has happened to me several times, so I think I've learned my lesson at this point.

Don't really feel overwhelmed. There are a whole slew of games that I'm really interested in coming out, and I still haven't played some of last year's biggest titles. But it's a nice problem to have :D I don't NEED to play them all, even though I would enjoy them. As long as I'm having a great time with my PS3 every night of the week, that's all I care about. I tend to spend a lot of time with a single game, I don't blast through a whole game in a weekend like some people do, so money isn't really a problem.

Overwhelmed?!

slaps complaining posters on the back of the head

What's Da Mattah wit'choo?!

I remember the days when there were a few (short) good games and lots of craptacular one (superman 64 anyone?) And even we'd play the crap ones because the short good games got old after awhile. Now there are so many good games out there, and I don't have time to play them all...overwhelmed?! No way!!! I am in Heaven!!!

Or to put it another way...from Dueling Analogs

LOL, well the thing I did a year ago was drop my OCD achievement and trophies addiction, its just a waste of my gaming life and I just didnt have the time with all the games I play, aso i cut them loose

my gaming life is now much better without the stress of useless things like that

To answer tour question TC, yes I feel there are alot more games out than there used to be

which is why I dont play certain genre's anymore to really get into the genres I love

So i never play RTS's, MMO's, Fighting games, racing games, and now I have stopped playing platformers this past few months unless it Braid or Limbo or something like that

i find this way I can really enjoy the game I love and devote alot more time to them, FPS MP I now only play sparingly and JRPG's like Demon Souls that are insanely hard I juts dont have the patience for anymore and so dont play those

I used to get overwhelmed. I also dropped my OCD Trophy habbit. I no longer worry about trophies or back log. I now just play to have fun. What a novel idea. I don't know why it took me so long to realize that I was frustrating myself by getting too caught up in things that are meant to enhance the game.

If you're broke, you could just rent games. Almost all games end up $20 used after a year or two if you really want to keep it.

Yes it is quite a problem sometimes. I usually never buy a game when it first comes out, and almost always wait until at least $20 has been cut off the original price. I also refuse to buy used...

Even so, my backlog is pretty big (but shrinking!), and I sometimes think I will never get through all of it.

All of my games now a days i get essentially for free. Once im done with a game i either sell it or trade it away.

For instance, i bought RDR for 30 bucks and sold it for 28 bucks online.

I even make a profit; bought shin megami for 14 bucks and sold for 22 when i was done.

Once I beat a game I don't hold onto it, i sell it immediately before the price goes down. It doesnt bother me since I've got a huge list of games to play.

I dont usually buy games new, but some games are must haves for me so i will buy new for Oblivion V

I'm only overwhelmed by the amount of games that don't catch my interest.

Last year I had more than enough time to buy all games I really wanted to have at full price, play them until the ending and then buy a game that I didn't really wanna have out of boredom. And between all that I still had enough time to replay some older games from 08/09 and last gen.
