Why would you feel guilty...unless you can't tell the differnce between reality and a video game. Thats what the characters in the game are there for....if they had no pourpose then they would all be cute fuzzy woodland animals (and people would still kill them).
Now if you are going around in real life beating people up for cash..then YES ..you should feel guilty.
Not at all, and if a nagging little voice does start whispering in my head. I simply drown it out with booze. Conscience and morals are for suckers.siwelcram
It's a video game of course you don't care or have a conscience...all you have to do is hit the reset button if you get killed. But I wonder if it was real life and the people in the GTA universe had a chance to hurt or kill you in reality...would you have such a SUPER BAD attitude about it???lol...I'm not knocking People who play GTA(because most of the people on my friends list have it) but I do have issues with people who try to live out this super gangster fanasty and just don't view it as fun and intertainment. Cyber gangsters...lol...(FLAME SHIELD ON)
I cant bring myself to play it. I am a very devout Christian and while I dont see a problem with games like COD4, I do feel its wrong to play this game. Its totally against the Chrstian morals that have been set for us.
mgfarmer
CoD4 is no different. Cursing and killing throughout the singleplayer...and multiplayer.
Alot of the times people forget that there is in fact a story that drive the game forward. GTA is not simply hooker banging, civilian killin, car stealing, puppy kicking. It's not to say those things don't happen, I view as no worse than watching American Gangster, Godfather, Scarface, or any Tarantino flix. The problem that fine citizens like your self should have is when a child under the age of 18 gets his hands on this game. The subject matter is a little inappropriate for a younger audience. There is no issue for someone with a maturity level beyond fart jokes, and sponge bob to see this for what it is. A Game, a source of entertainment, a way to act out a well crafted story.
Actually it is. COD is simulated war. GTA is simulated crime. I dont care if its just a game simulating killing peole for money, drugs, sex, carjackings etc is completely wrong. mgfarmer
You say you are devout. You say GTAIV goes agianst the biblical morals. Sure, COD is war and GTA is crime but there are still problems with the game if you are "devout"...atleast there should be.

I am a christian too, but both COD AND GTA4 are bad in the eyes of god, why? because both involve killing. And god hates that.
I didnt get GTA4 because i just never got into the game, but i have 6 days on cod4 mp, i know its bad, my mom tells me everytime she sees me playing it... but i like it so much :(

I don't think this guy is trying to be a gangstar or even a harda$s for that matter. Some people just really don't think much about it be it a video game or real life. Again it's not that they have this ethos that is "gangster". Many of us are desensitized and such. Some people just don't have the same morals and don't see what you may see as wrong, wrong to them. Like sex before marriage. The Christrian faith is against. I grew up in church, but I stll don't feel this way. How many people do you honestly know who haven't had sex before they were or are married? Not many. I am glad I have a good foundation because of church, but as I have grown, I have learned to form my own beliefs, values, morals and what hae you on my own rather then let anyone or anything else do it for me. I just hate how it's blamed on people being wannabe gangstars. I smoke a blunt before I play GTAIV, and I have a gun, but that doesn't make me a gangster.

Killing isn't the issue with God bro, it's the motive behind the killings.I don't think a soldier is wrong for protecting his country or a person defending their family and home from an intruder.Dust off that bible of yours and read the first 5 books, especially the book of exodus when the hebrews where freed from captivity. I'm not going into detail....just read.

Not quite sure what you are talking about. As a middle working class I do not understand this gangster mentality. Right now I am having a crappy day at work. When I get home tonight I will turn on GTA IV and take out my frustrations on some hooker and winos. I like to do it. I feel not one ounce of remorse after I get done laughing at their lifeless corpses. If anyone has a problem with this I will be laughing at you as I look at you in the rear view mirror. I agree with you to a certain point....what might be right to some...might not be right to others and I'm fine with that because it all comes down to choice. My point is that I grew up in a big city and I delt with alot of the issues that are featured in GTA....The reality is no joke...I'll leave it at that!!! lol

Ok, I can understand your point, but guilt will depend on your own perspective, if killing simulated people on videogames represent a sin or something that is gonna make you feel some kind of guilt, then it doesn't matter if it is COD4 or GTA, war or not, same thing with different flags; and this would apply to every single thing you watch on TV, movies, tv series, etc. I would say that the people that bought this game are aware of that somehow, and its simple, if you felt guilt of playing it, why did you get it in the first place, everybody knew what the game was about. Was it curiosity? well, everybody might be curious of this game, as well as you, so let them judge by themselves too.

It saddens me to know that your mother makes you feel guilty for enjoying a normal legitiment form of entertainment. That's my problem with religion, everything that is somewhat fun is "satan's" playground for "temptation." Just have fun without hurting other people and you will be fine throughout life.
I don't feel guilty at all. So far the people I've killed were unintentional due to the poor car handling in the game that critics failed to mention. As far as mission based objective in which you have to take someone out, it's part of the game. For me, games are played to escape reality, even if it's a game such as GTAIV which is realistic in nature that touches on issues/concepts that actually happens in the real world.
In the real world, I have no intentions to go out and take someone out or do any "sinful" acts with prostitutes and escorts in the real world. Not only because it's wrong, but because I have no interest in doing any of that. All that is humor to me. It's ok to do this in a game, although obviously, I wouldn't play the game too much around young children.

I would be interested in anyone's comment about my original post on this thread when I wondered if people would play games about rape and child molesting because they are "only games" and not real life. Are we someday going to see a game called
"Schoolyard Theft of Innocence" in which people score points for performing unnatural acts on kids? Will the web sites swoon over the great graphics and sound when the kids are wincing in pain? What about "Rape" the game where your girl friend can walk in the room and see you scoring points for forcable penetration? If these game examples shock you, where do you draw the line? Is GTA OK but these games not? Who decides what is too shocking to make a game about? This is not an easy question to ask nor is the answer an easy one. I sincerely welcome your thoughts. Growing up means tackling hard questions and not laughing at them. Millions of children under 18 are playing GTA4 this week. You know it and I know it, just like young kids were always the first on line to play Mortal Kombat. Can we shrug that off?
We all played a game where we were raped ( remember CJ in the badlands), and to be honest with you that did not bother me at all. I do no think I could play a game that involved raping some one myself. Anything that involves hurting children has crossed THE LINE with me. Play any GTA and you will not find a minor in any game. It is not a coincidence. Also for the record MK was so fictional and cartoonish, who took it seriously beside Jack Thompson.I would be interested in anyone's comment about my original post on this thread when I wondered if people would play games about rape and child molesting because they are "only games" and not real life. The depiction of child molestation is illegal in the US, almost as much as the actual act. This will not happen. There are limits, believe it or not.
I find it so funny that this game is the one to stir up so much controversy. It is neither the most violent nor the most sexually explicit game out there.
The best I can figure is that this game gets so much attention in this regard because of its open nature, in the fact that I could do the missions, or I could kill some ho in an alley and take all her money. Then, when the pimp comes around, I can do the same to him. Then, we the cop comes around, I can do the same to him. Then, when the FIB comes around... you get the idea.
It's a great game, all I ever said is that I feel a little guilt when I slap a ho.
Edit: ok, I don't know if it is illegal per se, but it would never make it past the ESRB and definitely not onto store shelves.

Such game will not be released. Even GTA has it's boundaries which they can't pass. GTA IV and globally in essence of "wrong doings" is as much as terrible movie where language and sex is allowed.
However, not even GTA IV can perform the later openly.
Unless you're medically "sick" I can not find anyone who would enjoy child molesting game, if someone does indeed, they need to seek professional help.
I'm a bit tired of all this "Games make people do stupid things in life". So does TV, Movies, Music, Internet, Religion, Media and any other mediums out there.
You know what they all have in common?
If you're not mature enough to understand the difference between right and wrong, you're not supposed to be exposed to it.
As simple as that...
Explain to me the situation I had last evening, where eight underage boys were accompanied with their mother and father buying GTA IV for them in their presence and store clerk explaining that this is game is 17+.
Who do you blame when that kid goes to school and beats someone up with baseball bat because it's cool and maybe he can rob him of some money..
How about watching adult movie in theatre and doing the same thing, but this time with a gun.. because it was cool..
I'm not trying to insult you in any way, it's just that your rationalization is far off in my mind. There are many factors in life that make people do many, many "wrong doings".
Games, for once - are the least of all troubles to do so..
Some food for though. ;)
I dont play GTA and never have. The idea of role playing as a criminal just doesnt do it for me. I didnt realize part of the game had rape for points. That is pretty messed up. I dont care if your Christian or not, that is pretty disturbing. You can talk about it "just being a game", but come on. This "game" is simulating the underbelly of our society, and yes, it is glorifying it. I personally believe that games, TV, and movies are pushing the limits of what is decent and should be made. A good example of what you are talking about is an internet game I heard about which was based on the Oklahoma City bombing...pretty messed up but some dude actually made it.I would be interested in anyone's comment about my original post on this thread when I wondered if people would play games about rape and child molesting because they are "only games" and not real life. Man, you are right about the essence or message that this involves -rape, kill, etc-, but let me tell you, nowadays is more difficult to see a kid shocked or altered for playing GTA IV, when the real killing, rapes, etc. are on the news everyday, movies, tv series, internet, etc... dont judge videogames for that, because you would have a headache judging all that's around you. But its true, a lot of underage kids might be playing this game, and that's sad, then the message is to parents an so; but one thing is certain, this problem is a carry over since the 90's, and will continue to be an issue for who knows how much time. Personally, I bought this game, and I feel mature enough to know the difference between a simulation and my own actions outside, to me makes no difference playing GTA IV and watching an Al Pacino movie... If you want to change things then start with you own home and life, I think there is still enough moral in the world to judge what our children must not see or play... at least for the most part.
