I notice that a lot of games recently are coming out with a crap load of Online features... Within the next 10 years do you think we'll kiss Single player goodbye? Personally, The day Single Player disappears is the day i stop gaming.

Well, it isn't that bad actually, a lot of Games are singleplayer alone or have at least a good singleplayer mode :/ The trend of going online is especially in Strategy and FPS, but they have always been (on Pcs), the PS3 just opened this field with their built-in possibility to go online o_O

When I think about it, yes - it worries me a lot as most online gaming features have not interested me in the slightest. I'm hoping that there will still be developers (like Naughty Dog) making games that have much stronger emphasis on the single-player experience instead of dividing resources in order to tack multiplayer on just to avoid criticism from the minions and reviewers who don't want to play anything else, even though multiplayer doesn't necessarily make a game better. I'm also holding out for the day that there are separate reviews for single-player and multiplayer portions of games. For example, Call of Duty 4 got high scores in reviews even though reviewers said the single-player campaign was short and unfulfilling. That was enough for me to skip it.

Single player will always be there but, developers are putting more and more effort into the online component of their games.

Sure. Multiplayer features are big these days, but single player remains the core of my gaming experience, and that won't change in the foreseeable future.

yeah lets hope not. The campaigns are what makes the game unique in it's own right. Multiplayer..... is fun for awhile, but sometimes I just want to kick it by my lonesome and adventuring off onto my *own* journey.

the single player campaign in games is all im interested in i really dont care for multiplayer, personally i think the rise in multiplayer options in almost every kind of game has reduced the quality and duration of single player modes.

+1 more.....I may play on-line I may not, but on-line is gravy. I still need the meat and potatoes of a single player experience.

For gaming I consider single player campaigns more of a tutorial and the advanced gaming is all in the online.

i buy a game for single player if it comes with multiplayer its a small bonus, so it will never disappear because people would be like "did you play that new game" and you'd be like "no I've been having Internet problems so i haven't played it yet, so ive been playing some single player games" and he'd be like "WTF IS SINGLE PLAYER !?!?!?!?!"

Personally, I look at the online play as the only real replay value of a game. I'd even go as far as saying the single campaign of a game is simply an add-on, a very good one in some cases. But I sure wouldn't appreciate if every single game came out without a single campaign. It may be just an add-on to me but I appreciate it nonetheless.

It won't happen. The whole reason why online campaigns exist is because of single player campaigns. No single player = An online game with no background story or anything to go by.

Well online and multiplayer isn't really the exact same thing. Sure you can play multiplayer on " Teh interwebz " but if I'm about to play multiplayer I prefer LAN or Splitscreen :P

I second this, but multiplayer expands in what you can do, so you wont get bored doing the single-0player campaign.

QFT. if muliplayer is great then i'll pay it. but as a rule i much prefer a greatsingle player exp. fallout3,deadspace and mgs4 just as a few examples. iv tried r2's online and found it boreing after a few nights, i have to have some story arcs ect. just mindless running around shooting stuff just for the sake of shooting stuff gets old fast for me. of course on the otherhand i had a blast playing the first call of duty's multiplayer on PC before the hackers/cheaters killed it for the real gamers. otherthan that i still play IL-2 series of ww2 flight SIMS on the pc. great exp that. so if done right MP can be a good thing. But still i demand a great SP exp from my games.

I am a fan of single player which is why gaming is becoming lame to me because many games only have 5 hours of single player then the rest is online. Online seems to be very repetative to me and boring. I like online Co-op because there is still a story and tends to be longer as well as adds replay value instead of death matches and such.

I prefer single player. I like playing online but only with certain games and if the online portion of that game is actually stable. I'm sick of these so called "online betas" in the final release.

I love both on and offline gaming. However, the single player portion of the game to me gives me background of story, plot and characters etc.. Then, online is completely different. It can be more boring based on the fact that the story is usually non-exisitant (except co-op) but the value of playing against virtual players controlled by real beings is awesome. They are both important to be, but a game wihtout online multiplayer, or a game without single player offline will not ruin a title for me completely.

If, God forbid, that ever happens, I will be a gamer no more.

I have no care in the world for online multiplayer gaming, and I wouldn't care one bit if no game included it. I'm a single player, story driven gamer. That's what matters to me, and if the day ever comes where single player is no more, I will hang up my controllers forever.

I don't see singleplayer ever disappearing completely since way too large a portion of the audience would vanish. Not everyone has online and almost all multiplayer games these days have next to no local support.

Serious developers know to keep things 50-50. its 2 worlds, all games need a solid single player as well as muli
