A surge protector has an off and on switch, along with 6 to 8 outlets and plugs into the outlet in your wall. It protects your equipment in the instance of a storm or something. It keeps it from getting shorted out or whatever. I suggest you get one.

A surge protects you in storms and such, so when you power goes out and goes back on - the surge of the power flowing back on can short circuit your electronics.
BTW, buying a $10 surge protector isn't always a wise idea... most of them don't do anything. I had to get my last TV replaced because the cheap surge protector blew out on a surge and took out the TV too.
I have an $150 one now, and it is good. When the power goes out, it not only shuts off - but at first it gives you 5 minutes to shut it off yourself. It has a battery and is great.
That is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard of. If i pay $150.00 for a surge protector it better get me laid every weekend. Waterwolf27
LOL
I'm not sure where the post is.
but someone who's ps3 failed on them,
(using a surge protector) decided to called SONY
and they said his warranty was voided due to the use
of a surge protector. im not tryna make this up
but either way, i myself use one. but just tryna give
a heads up!
i dont use a surge protector.
i'm not for sure.
but i remember the house electricity went out for just a blink of a second, while the ps3 was on because of a storm.
and my system didnt even restart, it quickly resumed. by fading out just a little and fading back in.
