So I'm considering on getting a PS3 hopefully within the next few months, and aside from God of War III, I want to get Uncharted 2, but I haven't played Uncharted 1. So would I be missing out on alot in terms of story from Uncharted 2 if I haven't played the previous game?

i think it would help you understand some inside jokes, i haven't played the first one and there were some instances where i did not get the point of a certain conversation, but apart from petty jokes the storyline does not have anything in common with the first one and it is a very good game, just get and finish it... :)

It would help your understanding of the characters, plus it has a better story than the second in my opinion

Not necessarily... but you have to get it because it's a good game... try renting it or get the greatest hits version...

Actually, in Uncharted Drake's Fortune, its more about the story, since the gameplay was on the poor side to be honest

I think a lot of those inside jokes weren't related to Uncharted, it was just meant to give you a sense that these characters have a history. 1 and 2 don't have much correlation story-wise. You should pick up the first one if you can find it cheaper because it's a great game and very similar to the sequel and if you really like it you'll then look forward to buying the sequel.

It's not really needed, but you should still play it to at least be more familiar with the characters. And it's a fun game in its own right anyway.

Not necessarily, just get Uncharted 2. Uncharted 1 was amazing but later in the game it did turn sour after introducing something I wont name due to spoiler reasons. But I recently played Uncharted 2 and man have they stepped the game up. Dive into Uncharted 2..if not Heavy Rain which I'm enjoying now :) I may be actually starting to like Sony more if they keep pushing unique games like HR.

yeah, it's a completely different story, so there shouldn't be any problem, but I'd recommend at least giving the first one a rental if you can, you can propably beat it in 1 weekend if you play like non-stop in that weekend heh, because it's a awesome game on it's own.

IMO, it's not necessary. I have played only Uncharted 2 and I have had no problem to understand the story, which isn't anything special, though.

meh, Uncharted 2 is a MAJOR improvement over the first, i think we all whove played both can agree on that. playing the first helps with you getting to know some of the characters who dont really get introduced in the sequel. neither story of either game has anything to do with one another (even though both stories are VERY similar) you could probably just wikipedia it or watch some youtube vids to bring you up to snuff.

I didn't play the 1st through fully as I found it pretty boring but really enjoyed the 2nd. One word answer - no.
