Do you prefer the DS3 or a Joystick for SSFIV/other fighting games?

I was just curious. I want to buy SSFIV, but I'm not very good with the controller. I know it will be difficult with the joystick at first as well, but everyone who is decent at SF or other fighting games swears by them, whether they are home made (the route I am planning on going) or something like a Hori. I just feel it is hard to pull off moves on the D-Pad (although it's loads easier to do in a DS3 than a 360 controller). I'm sure I would get better over time, but I would really like to make my own fighting stick if it's worth the time and money. Anyone have an input on your preference?

Yeah i know what you mean, it think some combo's are meant to be used only on an arcade stick, so i plan on buying one or at least a fighting pad.

I use an arcade stick as thats what I'm used to and thats the true way for me. If someone prefers a pad thats cool too. I have friends who have played SF2 since they got it with their SNES but have never played it in the arcade. Therefore prefer the pads and are better with them. If you have trouble with a pad try a stick.

I've never used a stick before so the controller has been just fine for me. I just switch over to the analog stick for circles and then back to the d-pad. I am considering buying an arcade stick though since I'm playing BlazBlue much more this time.

Well I grew up playing Street Fighter games in the arcade, so a stick feels more natural to me.

Never got used to a joystick (aside from atari) so never liked one for anything. But the dual analog sticks i've become VERY accustomed to.

I want to build a six button one with Sanwa parts more than likely, with a The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly theme to it.

Fight pads and fights sticks are always the way to go with fighting games if you want to get serious with fighting games.
