If you havent heard they are coming out with Qore, the same thing as PSN xept you gotta pay, theyre keeping PSN, for now, but putting the best content on Qore and not on PSNTheSonOfUgly
No you are misinformed. Qore is like a magazine that includes various things. So you get things as they come out, but they will be individual on the PSN. But if you are the type of person who buys everything on PSN it would be smart to get a Qore subscription because you get a big bundle of stuff.

its like GS vs GS Gold, not a big difference, but enough to justify 24.99 a year.. PSN is still free, Qore is an extra service on top of it.

On topic, I believe online play on the PSN will remain free, at least until (if) Sony overtakes Microsoft. Right now, Sony is not in a position to make people pay to play online. However, if (when) they become the market leader (between themselves and MS), all bets are off.
I don't personally think Sony will end up charging to play, but we'll see down the road a bit.

Exactly. People here that "Qore" is coming out and they go crazy thinking the whole psn will soon follow the money route.
I dont really care to be honest. I dont play online much anyway.
Although if it does start to cost, then Ill just get an annual subscription for Christmas as I do with Xbox Live. But still, it depends on how many online games I have seeing as PS3 is my primarily single player console. But if MGS4's online "Sneak mode" gametype is as good as I think it will be, Ill get a subscription just to play that.

In its current state, yes. If it surpasses Live as the superior service there is a possibility we might have to pay.jtdawg23
Agreed, though I think Sony would be stupid to charge currently as free online play is one of PS3s main selling points.
free online is one of the main sellin points for PS3, it even says so on the box.
that being said, I think Sony would be fully in their rights to make us pay for Home or any other addons that come out (except in game XMB).. I hope they dont, but I wouldnt feel cheated out if they did. I dont think theyll ever charge ppl to play online though, only M$ is greedy and evil enough to do that

I agree, it is one of the advantages the ps3 currently has.
Well since I don't play online it doesn't really matter to me.:P But I don't think we'll start having to pay for it.
PSN will remain free for the span of PS3 (Qore will be available obvious;y, but PSN will be free), until PS4 comes out ... all bets are off.
Right now it will be decent demo's and addons etc on PSN and the beta's and i assume early releases of 1st party demos and addons on Qore.
I honestly think that they will continue free online for everybody (i'm talking past the PS3) (so basically online play is free). But all demo's and beta's and downloadable content etc will all be available only to those that pay, allowing everyone to be able to play online, but giving extra content to those that pay. Which in my opinion would be the best idea. Hopefully it will be as cheap as Qore, because the 25 dollars or so, is pretty cheap in my opinion, if Live was this cheap, I might have actually considered buying the 360. It was the 70 dollar price tag which really annoyed me.
sony is still managing to keep things like home free by stuffing them full of advertisments. a free online model is feasible with some enginuity. i cant imagine they would be able to away so many advertisments if psn was a payed service. its really one or the other.
as a free service, psn remains a selling point. sony really has the most to gain from selling more consoles, since they are the most diverse company in the console market. not only do they get profits from the console and game royalties, but they are also putting another bluray player in a household. this along with the occasional 1080p game encourages the purchase of an hdtv which sony sells as well.
Sony has enough trouble sellin their console and competing with 360/wii,, if they charge theyll lose future sales and piss off current owners who've bragged about the service to 360 ownerssignoreI'd definitely be one of those unsatissfied customers, not solely because I'd have to pay for online gaming/Home etc, but because of the deception of being led to believe it was free to consumers of the product.
What kind of Jackass would pay for Online Multiplayer Service?
You See here? No Lolly Popper Rapper over this head! No Sucker here!
Nor will there ever be one for that Matter!
[QUOTE="Matt-4542"]i just stopped and said WOW when u said u dont play online :PHaha, I have about 9 or 10 online games for my 360 so I play online much more on my 360. The only game I have at the moment for my PS3 is Resistance, and Ive played it online a few times. Dont get me wrong, online for that is pretty fun but I dont play it much because I like to play with friends, haha. Im getting MGS4 on June 13th though, so Ill be playing that online alot.I dont really care to be honest. I dont play online much anyway.

[QUOTE="mitchconlin"]better not 60 dollars is whats keeping me from playing my xbox onlineMatt-4542$60 is not that much. If you have $400 to buy the system, $60 for games, and money for the internet on your computer, surely you can afford Live
So you are saying now that I have bought my $400 system, paying $60 for games, and paying for internet - justifies also paying for another online service? Sorry but I have to work to pay for all this, and it is a lot - I can't afford to pay for all this crap and then continue to pay for an online service ontop of all the other bills.
Well maybe if you are living with your parents it would be affordable..................

for anyone who's asking about Qore
I think playing online over the PSN will always be free, I hope so, but if you want better service you have to pay a fee.
If you do your kidding yourself, MS is making a killing on live. Sony will follow because it is the smartest thing to do. Now I still think you will be able to do everything you do now for free but whatever new features they add will cost.
You guys should want to pay for PSN because it will be a lot better than what you have now. For the basic player PSN is probably just fine but there are a lot of hardcore ps3 fans that really want this. Just don't cry when it happens because you should want sony to do this because everybody wins. ME I THINK THEY WILL MAKE A THING LIKE SLIVER AND GOLD u also i just found this link and thiswwedx
To play games online will stay a free service IMO.
But it's already starting to show that sony need to make money to keep there PSN network(bandwidth etc) running in a competitive manner with the release of Qore(i forget its name something like Qore) to purchase a full year of there video podcast will cost a gamer $96 more than an xbox live subsciption, so to get the full benefits of psn your going to have to pay while enduring video adverts at the same time as they will start offering demos and what not to people who subscibe to there video podcast just like the socom beta.
It may stay "free" but in reality it wont be free to enjoy the best PSn has to offer, i would have much prefered to pay sony an annual fee of £30 for Home, this video podcast and what other features they bring to ps3, but to charge for this podcast is fine but to charge and had video advertising is not fine IMO.

I live with my girlfriend, i have a mortage, car payments, council tax payments, insurance etc etc etc and i can easily afford a £30 annual fee to xbox live and i do not have an amazingly high paying job.
With the introduction of Qore it will cost more just to watch a years worth of video podcasts than an xbox live subs.
If home rivals xbox live i would happily pay them an annual fee of around £30, like the saying goes "you get what you pay for" and if paying would mean an improved service id be happy to do that, one gamertag for all games, so i dont have to go through things like the MGO beta nonsense.
