slightly underappreciated compared to 360 owners?

I've had a 360 since it come out and I got rid of it at the start of this year, I will be purchasing another one in about a months time. Anyone feel like this sometimes?

I do see what you mean, owners of the other console have better luck when it comes to multiplats and DLC. But when it comes to 1st party games and new IP's there's no comparison, the PS3 has the definate edge. And I've always thought that is more important than multiplats/DLC.

I have both consoles so I win either way :P

M$ is paying for the DLC and that is to get people like you to buy there console. The PS3 seems to be making up ground with a solid year this year (slightly better than the 360's) and looks very promising next year.

for sure! its because xbox came out first! so most devs are used to it. but PS3 is catching up very very quickly. im a proud ps3 owner, i do sometimes get ticked off that PS3 gets treated as second best to 360, but hey who cares i love my PS3 iv had a 360, but i prefer my PS3

My impression of the PS3 userbase is that they are generally older than the Xbox userbase and are less likely to buy into the milkage that is DLC anyway.

I certainly wouldn't buy the GTAIV DLC, didn't buy the DLC for Bioshock and when Beth announced exclusive DLC for Fallout 3 I decided that I'd wait for the GOTY edition.

Not really.

I'm extremely happy with my PS3, and it's getting better day after day.

I don't care about DLC. Yes, GTAIV might have been great, but by the time I finished it, I didn't want to play anymore, and I definitely won't pay 20$ for DLC, almost one year after it's release.

Yeah, I miss the times when games came finished. You got the game, played it, and waited patiently for a sequel. Now, developers sell half the package, and let's you pay for the other half.

I mean, seriously, what if this happens OUTSIDE the gaming industry? Then I'll be walking into a store to buy a chair, although it's missing three legs, and is unpadded. Three months later they'll send me the legs, and let me pay for the padding.

Being first out of the gate always has some advantages. Both consoles are in a fight against the Wii and although the Nintendo console is not the graphic giant its is still the best selling console. So many times we read from gamers why one console is superior to the other. But with all said and done they all have their advantages and disadvantages. Here's hoping that the competition produces great gaming experiences and each console strives to improve their offerings to us.

Most definitely, Fallout 3 is a prime example. Every time someone on my friends list signs in/out, the game freezes until the notification disappears, so I've had to turn them off. It's like they couldn't be bothered with the PS3 version.

If I didn't spend a lot of time on gaming websites or reading gaming magazines. I wouldnt' even notice.

Now that I read and read about the "war" going on between the two consoles, I feel that some developers are putting the 360 first. Which is not dumb, as there's way more 360s on the market than PS3. Although I've read the PS3 is gaining some ground.

None of it keeps me from enjoying playing the PS3 anyway, so overall I don't care much about all that stuff.

I've never had the feeling since I was a 360 owner before I was a PS3 owner. Now, I have them both and I'm really happy to be able to play LBP and Gears 2!

There's multiple reasons for that - the two most prominent being... SONY treats 3rd party developers like absolute crap while M$ treats them like they're golden. SONY refuses to offer 3rd party developers money for add on content taking the stance that "they should want to develop for us not get paid extra for it" - while M$ gladly pays cash to struggling developers. The second major reason is that the M$ console is and always will be easier to develop for. Don't misunderstand - I am not saying it's superior, because from a technology stand point it flat out is not. However due to it's OS being closer to the standard way of programming as Windows is it's cousin it makes it easier for developers to work with. In time as more developers become familiar with all the ins and outs of the SONY OS there will be some shift on this - however the OS that is most similar to Windows will always have the most programmers who are familiar with it's workings and therefore eager to program for it. SONY has a ton of great exclusives coming so the whole - this gen console war thing is all but dying off finally which is good. Both consoles are great and as long as you can afford it - the best thing to do as a hardcore gamer is to own both.

Yeah, it seems like we're the kid who always gets picked last in dodgeball. The simple answer is money. PS3 is selling far worse than the 360. They have a much larger install base, and multiplats ALWAYS sell better on the other console, so you can forgive developers for maybe putting a little more effort into the 360 versions. Also, the 360 is apparently much easier to program for.

About the DLC... Rockstar and Bethesda would love to take money from us as well,, but M$ has paid big bucks to offer exclusive content, an incentive to pick up their version. It does suck, but at least we can be assured that we own the best made console (that has FAARRR less chance of bricking) and that we dont get milked (paying to play online)

There is another level to this arguement as well. Its not just easier (since it is more familiar), it is also more effecient. Since the 360 and a Window's based PC share a related architecture, then you're designing a game for two systems at the same time, rather than have to create distinct versions. If there are 3 platforms available to the public and you, as a game designer, could design for 2 of the 3 at the same time, wouldnt you? This, I think, is also the reason we see lesser quality ports of games. Develop for two systems first, and then port to the third. Two "quality" products and one "close" product. It sucks for us PS3 people, but I understand the motivations. And then there is also the money thing talked about by others here. However, I would think that M$ should put some of that $$$ they throw around back into their own console and maybe find a solution to its red ring... uh... "issue." Wait, what am I thinking... they've made it this long convincing people to buy faulty hardware. Looks like we'll just have to wait for the "720."

I've been saying for a while that Sony has been resting on its laurels and Microsoft caught em with a sucker punch. So yeah Microsoft has gotten more content for their gamers pulled a lot of exclusives over to their console, and in general out moved Sony. But, I do feel like Sony finally gets it and they are working on the gaming experience and community instead of just the packaging and the advertising.

[QUOTE="DataDream"] Excellent point. It just takes that part of the equation that much further - you're right they are developing for multiple platform with a unified architecture essentially. [QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"][QUOTE="DataDream"][QUOTE="X360Gurl"]

AAahhhh - good for SONY. I hadn't read this update - unfortunately it will make littel difference from how the company is percieved. The damage is done. Don't get me wrong in time as long as SONY keeps this attitude and continues to pay third party developers extra then the wounds will heal - but that will take years as SONY basically told 3rd party developer to go *u** themselves in the beginning. It's only natural that the developers are not as happy with SONY. Like I said though - now that their attitude has changed this should lighten in time.

There has not been a single mult-platform game that that I bought that was better on the 360, than the PS3 version. I got Mirror's Edge which is better on the PS3 from what most people say. So I know already that I would not enjoy having a 360. I think a game developer that doesn't make a game as good as it could be on a console is lazy and really wants a quick buck.
