The figures come from the same company that only one week earlier trumpetted the success of the firs tweek of sales. Hence this is a 82% drop from launch week. This = 18% of the estimated 600000 europe wide = not a lot tbh :( Mentioned that this might happen on another thread...and it did. IMO it's the price, plain and simple. The 82% number is from the UK sales and it's after the most succesfull 3 day launch of any system in the UK. The 82% is irrelevant.
To answer the question. I will say this. The launch was not as good as it could have been. The draw back was the lack of games available. I do mean AAA games. With all the delays of the US launch, there should have been more AAA games out by now.
This will change soon but it has hurt the PS3 launch. The price has hurt it some, but not as much as predicted. Sony prooved that people will pay for the reputation of their brand. If the PS3 was a little cheaper, it would have had a better launch, but I don't know if this would have fixed the lack of games that came out with it.
If you compare the PS3 launch to the PS2.  It prooves that early numbers mean nothing. The Dreamcast had a 1 year head start on the PS2 and everyone thought the PS2 was doomed. 110 Million PS2's later, the world was once again reminded that looking at stats and polls does not mean much. Time is what we need to gauge the success of any system.
So only time will tell how the PS3 will look 1 to 2 years from now. Quit reading into everything the polls or stats say. Gamers play games, they don't participate in polls and care about stats.
