Do you think the PS3 "dashboard" needs a facelift?

It does, in my opinion. Compared to the 360's, the PS3 dashboard is quite bland. I would like to see a whole new setup, which should include an improved user profile tab that pops up when you log on and shows what trophies you have earned, profile info, and so on. Also a seperate tab for demo's would be nice, rather than them stacking up in your game tab.

What would you guys like to see improved/added/removed from the PS3 dash, if anything?

The XMB is fine, easy to use and straight forward, function over flash.

You fail. There is a demo tab under the game tab. That is where all my demos are:roll: Also it just got a face lift so your not going to get another on soon. IMO

Couldnt hurt. I dont really care that much myself i spend very little time actually looking at it, but it would be a nice change i guess.

It's called the "Cross Media Bar" or XMB. You can liven up your theme by downloading or creating your own. Do a Google search for PS3 Themes and you'll find a bunch of websites with free user created content. I don't want to see my trophy info every time I log on. The most common thing I want to do is play games.

EDIT: Didn't see that part about a demo tab. You can press triangle while highlighting a demo and under information type in Demo and then press square to change the sort method and you'll find them all in a folder named Demo. Ta-Da

I like it the way it is, everything is simple and a lot easier to use than the 360 dashboard, demos are very easy to find too, I do agree about the user profile, would be nice to see some improvements to the friend list, like being able to see their info without having to click on their profile.

There are a couple tweaks that could be made, but I certainly don't want it heading int he direction of the 360's... yuck. The XMB is user friendly, and clean looking. I'd like it to stay that way.

XMB is great. I love how clean and functional it is. The other day one of my friends asked if I could set her PC up like that.

I think the XMB is awesome, and easily the best out there, IMO. It could use a couple of tweaks, sure, but I don't want any major changes to it because I'm very happy with it.

Simple, clean, and elegant. Exactly as a user interface should be.

The XMB is basicly just fine except maybe a couple of the short cuts that was added in the 3.0 update. In later updates there could be more detail added to the friends list.

No no no no no!!!! I had a 360 long before i had a PS3 and i much prefer the PS3 dashboard. The 360's dashboard used to be great but then they decided to try and compete wih the Wii with stupid avatars and crap, now the dahboard is all cluttered up and full of advertising! That's probably what Micro$oft was thinking of when they overhauled it, they could fit more advertising on there and squeeze more cash out of whoever pays for it. The playstation dashboard is a breath of fresh air; smooth, straight forward and very professtional looking.

i think the ps3 dashboard is out of date. they need to make it more accessible to people. make it faster and easier to find things and just more intuitive, and less cluttered. as it stands now i think the xmb is way over cluttered, they need to simply things, they can keep all the options in there while simplying the interface alot. xmb was great back in the day but its dated now, and 3.0 is in my opinion a sign that sony heading in the right direction.

Eww you called it a dashboard. PS3's interface has a super cool name: Xross Media Bar or just XMB. I love it though. I think it's really easy to use and very well organized. The way it's set up allows for quick access for anything you need.

You think the XMB is...cluttered? Thats 100% the exact opposite of most peoples opinion. :P It's also arguably the most user friendly, accessible interface on any device I've operated. Man....I guess it's true you can't please everyone.

I find thr XMB much easier to navigate and far more practical.

Imo the 360 dashboard is quite clumsy, to much flash for no reason.

i disagree, i think its sony biggest problem right now. they cater to a very small "harcore" audience its got a semi pc interface, anyone un-familar with it always finds it intimidating.

its not as user friendly as it could be. it is cluttered and thats just a fact, you can hardly see your background most of the time since theres so much stuff on screen at the same time, which i thinks a waste cause your really only focused on thing at a time.

i don't need to see everything, 9/10 times your either playing a game or blu-ray after that the playstation store and the friend list is the next big thing. thats four things that your really gonna need access to most of the time you log on.

the other stuff doesn't always have to be on screen cluttering everything up. sony's just needs to make things more accessible and just easier to navigate the thing. increasing the font size and icon size is a good sign, they see their issues and you can tell they are addressing them.

This. I think the XMB is incredibly easy and straight forward to navigate. I don't really appreciate the 360's dashboard at all. I remember the first time I tried to navigate the 360 at a Best Buy and I just couldn't for the life of me figure out how to start the damn demo that was in the system at the time. Part of that was obviously a lack of familiarity, but I had absolutely no problems with the XMB when I first fired up my PS3.

Samox

So you prefer a cluttered interface, with useless advertisements everywhere and stupid looking avatars to the elegant and easy-to-use/straight-forward XBM?

And to respond to your question, I like the XBM the way it is. It doesn't need any "facelift", just small improvements because it already is close to perfection like the PlayStation controller. :D

If you want a good theme for xmb grab this one

http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3media&thread.id=157218&view=by_date_ascending&page=3

Get one I edited(PhalanX) for fm 3.0 since the guy who made it added this ugly half blob behind the icons. All i did was remove it from the wallpaper and centered the main icons so it looks closer to the themes first debut.

first of all, it's called the XMB, second of all, it's good the way it is. nice, clean and simple. what you're suggesting would make it as ugly and cluttered as the 360 dashboard.

I definitely feel it needs a facelift. I'm more a 360 guy so i know that PS3 needs a lot of work on its dashboard.
