They didn't within the last 2 years of real support, have decided to port PSP games to the PS2? Some games had no right on the PS2 or played/looked worse, and it really basically gave people less of a reason to buy a PSP. Everyone pretty much already had a PS2 right? So the fact someone though it was a good Idea to remove the appeal and port PSP games to the PS2, and in some cases, cheaper than the PSP version, just never made sense. one of the main reasons why the PSP ended abruptly.

Piracy help kill the psp, developers didn't want to make games for a system that was easily hacked. Plus the market of the smart phone hurt hand held gaming altogether, even the vita is doa.

No, the west have no real interest in the system. Too bad because the PSP got one of the best catelog of JRPGs.

I think the hacking thing is really what killed it. The PSP already faced a lot of tough competition from the DS in the handheld game market, and the system's security going right out the window made matters much worse. I'm sure IPod/IPad/Android/etc didn't help, but I don't think they really impacted things as much. Most handheld gamers want a dedicated handheld game system.

I'm also not sure what you mean about PSP games being ported to the PS2, but I haven't really been following Sony news for years. It seems to me that most of the PSP's lifespan occurred after the PS2's lifespan, so maybe you meant to say PS3? I'm not sure of any PSP games that switched development over to PS3, but again, I'm not really that clued in.

I don't think that played a very significant role in the PSP's death, there was a lot more to it than that.

It's crazy how well it's still doing in Japan.

Not only do they still make games there, the owners support the platform and continues to purchase games over modding it.

19 PSP titles released just in the past month...http://acg.gamer.com.tw/index.php?page=1&p=PSP&t=1&tnum=1280,God Eater Burst 2 just announced, remake of FFIII incoming.

If we get half of the games Japan gets here (MH3P, Power Pro Baseball, Super Robot Taisen, Tales, VC3, FF Type-0), PSP would undoubtedly get a couple more years in the West.

Piracy help kill the psp, developers didn't want to make games for a system that was easily hacked. Plus the market of the smart phone hurt hand held gaming altogether, even the vita is doa.gagit811

What a load of guff.

Piracy didnt help kill the PSP over here at all, lack of support did. Just take a look at most of the gush titles on the PSN for the PSP, most of it is crap. Sony just dont want to get their head out of their arse when it comes to getting titles on their systems over here in the west, at all. Look at the Ps1 back catalogue on the PSN, rubbish. Have we even got Crisis core for download? Nope..

To think piracy is killing the handheld is deluded at best and almost as as deluded as SCEE or SCEA are. You can emulate on old PS1, N64, SNES, whatever, games on phones nowdays so much easier than you can play actual money bought games for the PSP! (The BLINDING fact that the games are not there to buy even though they exist for the platform and sell in other countries..)

when consumerism gets like that how can you blame pirates? At all? It's down to the company who dont want to get the software on the system they are selling...

How anal they are with the system and how many you can "Have" tied to one account is another factor. It's a great little handheld with so much potential bogged down by so much red tape and nonesense. The Vita is even WORSE for this!

The game prices stink on the PSN to boot. I'm supprised it's got this far in the west. That in itself should be seen as an almighty achievement by one of the most anal corporations going..

to blame pirates is the easy let off for Sony and an easy bleet for the sheeps.

Sony just dont ever learn, period. They seem to be their own worst enemy and I'm so supprised they've got this far in the west when you look at how the operate. It's very, very simple. Get the games out on the platform to buy, have less restrictions and people will happily buy it AND the games. HOW HARD IS THAT TO UNDERSTAND? A child could come up with that.

Why multi billion pound coporations cant and then blame piracy is far and away beyond me..

 The reason there was a 'lack of support' was BECAUSE of the piracy. If you honestly don't think piracy was one of the major problems that plagued the PSP, you are just blind to the facts. If you did any research at all, you'd see the unbelievable rates of piracy. Games like God of War and MGS: PO were download hundreds of thousands of times via torrent sites and the sales numbers were pretty low.

If you'd actually ever spoken to anyone whose ever developed on the PSP you'd know better. It's not just Sony whose blaming the pirates kid, its EVERYONE whose tried to make games for the PSP.

God of War and Peacewalker are terrible examples because they sold very well for a handheld game. Piracy may be a problem but it's not as big as most people think it is.

Umm, Patapon and Loco Roco were also pirated more than a few hundred thousand times each as well.

A 32 year old kid. Blimey, I like you. I wish more people said I was younger than I am.

Aye, them darn pirates killing them there handhelds of Sony's, arrrrr. They totally knackerd the PSPGo too, shame on them. But thank god for Sony to bounce back with the white knight of revitalising (also known as the Vita..)

The lack of backward compatible games, vastly over priced memory sticks, a few wonky first batch models and STILL a lack of games over here in SCEE land that are again OVERPRICED on PSN will of course save the day!

All is not lost! them pirates will be at bay and Sony will sell a bucket load!! Hooraaa!

With the rise of tablets and the quality of mobile phones, I hate to say it but the PSVita is a dinosaur waiting for the meteor to come crashing down on it's head. I have a Vita and I love it, but I see the DS is probably the last of the great handhelds. With all these multifuntional devices becoming cheaper and cheaper there is no reason to buy a (primarily) single usage device.
