Do you think we will ever get a new interface for the PS3?

I read an article the other day, i forgot where from as it was mentioned in another post in some other forum, but the article was back from 2008 I believe. The main point of the article was that Sony knows what they didnt get right with the PS3 but they know how to fix it. It had some quotes from Sony devs saying how the hardware guys and the software guys didn't work together and essentially the console was made and then pushed onto the software guys and just said "here make something for this." So that's why the interface we have now isn't super smooth, fast, or optimized for the console, like when we press the PS button mid game to get back to the XMB.

Just curious. 360 got a new interface, is it in the realm of possibilty for us? Would you want one?

Maybe we'll get a copy and paste of the LiveArea on the PSV, which looks even worse and less imaginative.

I think the general XMB needs to a redesign, but I doubt it happens

why does it need to be redesign? you can customize it with your own pics and icons, you can redesign it yourself

That's not really redesigning it though. You can take a really ugly person and cover them in makeup but it won't make them pretty. XMB could use a facelift.

I personally like the interface. It's a very clean, easy to navigate design. Plus, Sony used it for basically all their products around that time, so I doubt we'll be seeing a redisign for it on the ps3.

The basic design is fine, I like how the XMB is simple and easy to navigate. I just hope Sony doesn't end up doing what they did to the PSP (no more features, one security update after another). It seems like a long time since the PS3 gained any new features. I don't think cross-game chat will ever arrive, it may be too late now (people have managed this long without it), but I hope other features are added.

I wouldn't be surprised if when the Vita comes out the ps3 gets updated with some features from the vita's interface (btw, when does that come out?)

I think it's around November this year. Personally I can't see the interface for the Vita being transfered to the PS3, it seems more suited for a touchpad than a console.

oh true, I forgot the vita is getting touchscreen. I don't want to completely ruin this thread, but one more question; do you know how much the vita will be priced at?

Ah ok, I'm finally forced to figure out what in the world 3G means and if I even need it for a handheld gaming system.

I dont think it needs to change drastically but it could use some performance tweaks. Id like it to come up in game a little smoother but i cant complain with how simple it is to navigate already.

...its easy to use, its simplicity thats all i care about, sure it could be faster but its fine the way it is.

True...Plus they use the XMB in everything now. It's even the menu system of their newer Sony TVs. It'd be a bit much to try and change it all I guess.

No I doubt it. Sony thinks the XMB is brilliant. I like it too, I don't get why some people don't.

The article you're talking about is the following...

http://gizmodo.com/5025980/sony-knows-what-went-wrong-with-the-ps3

It's actually because of the above that a new interface would simply be too time consuming and costly. With the PS4 already in development and due to release in 2013 / 2014, I think it's safe to say that a new interface for the PS3 would be a very bad investment for SCE. But, using the same article, at least we know that SCE is learning quickly from it's mistakes.

The above article was used in my research to write my own article. If you're interested in knowing more about what news is out there on the PS4, take a look at this...

XMB is simple and easy to navigate. All I would like is that it loads faster in-games. Some games have very fast access to XMB but some are just painfully slow.

Agreed, I definately prefer it over Live's interface because it's not clustered with alot of useless stuff and I can ACTUALLY see my background lol.
