Right now they have used 40GB for $230 and used 80GB (4 USB ports) for $280. I really want a PS3 with BC but I don't know if it is safe to get a used system from gamestop. Any thoughts or past experiences?

Used games is one thing but dropping the money for a new used system is a bit much. If it were an older system PS1,PS2,SNES,N64,Gamecube,X-box, and so on then I would say get a used system. But this is a PS3....

Seeing how Gamestops rigorous testing lab simply puts a disc in it to see if runs and if it does it qualifies as a passing grade, I'd say no way in hell.

No, they rarely check if it works, if it look like it works and it has all the cables it's sold. Don't do. Go on eBay!

i would not do it at all...what gamestop does is they will buy back broken systems and send them back to get fixed however we all know the great job companies do with fixing systems...esepcially with 360s. I would save up for a new one because u will get more out of a new system then a used one any time

My friend bought a used 40GB model from Gamestop about 4 months ago and it works fine and he's left it on all day at times. I bought a used Gamecube from them 3 years ago and it works fine also but I also don't play it alot either. That being said I'd just save up for a new one. The price isn't that much different between used 80gb and a new 120gb slim model.

I would also say no, its a roll of the dice and for a little extra for buying new you're getting a guarantee.

If you want BC support then that is one of the only ways of getting the BC support system. I have a 60 gig syatem that has never has a single problem even after leaveing it running 24/7 for over two years. I just recently started shutting it down into stand-by mode but hardly ever use the switch in the rear (used it only when I moved the system to another area of my entertainment cabinet until I found the best place for the system.

the new 120gb slim ps3 is $299, why would you even consider a used 60gb for $280?

Having went through the hassle of dealing with them for a refurb 60GB model, no. I would not trust gamestop with any used systems. I never purchased used systems before. However, in the case of the ps3, I had no other alternative, because I needed a hardware BC model in order to have a ps3 model that I wouldn't be cursing or yelling in aggravation when I can't play a certain game in my library or so on. The first unit chose to start gouging my copy of MGS4 within the first days of buying the game. The second was already overheating just at the XMB. :|

I think it depends on how much warranty they are offering. I'm in the UK and recently bought a used Xbox 360 bundle from Game with a two year warranty thst is the same level of warranty as if it were new!

Well my first Used 60 gig died after 10 days voiding the return policy so I could only exchange for another Used 60 gig. I got a year long warranty on my current Used Ps3 so if you must have BC, get a warranty with it. If not, get a new one instead.

Depending on the situation, even that's hit or miss. My PSP broke and I knew people who bought Wii's that died 5 days after. Buying lets say a PS3 slim doesn't really guarantee anything. It simply means it's less likely.

I Would buy A used System But Not From there.

If its scratched its obviously a Sign that theres a possbility that Something Could Happen to it In the Near Future.

If its Nice and Shiny, then Buy It.

But Even if it messes up, You Can still Return It. Or just get a 3 Year Warranty.

I wouldn't buy a used anything ;). Unless I know the person I'm buying it from, God knows how bad the previous owner was to their merchandise. I even stopped buying used games from Gamestop (how the hell do you scratch a PS3 disc? Even someone as destructive as me can keep them in mint condition).

I don't trust anything used; Although it wasn't until this generation that I started buying used games simply because Blu-Ray discs are impossible to scratch. Plus it's cheaper and if I don't like the game I have 7 days to return it for a full refund. ;)
