Hey everyone, this is a two part thread. My first question is, do you use a headset to play on PSN? I purchased a headset to play Resistance 2 online, but very few people were using one, so I returned it. Why don't more people use headsets on PSN? I understand not wanting to listen to some kid screaming, singing, swearing, etc., but you can just mute the person. I love playing online with a headset and without people talking it seemed more like I was just playing with a bunch of bots with no emotion. Come on people, talk! :) So do you use one or not? And why?

The second part of my question is for those who do use a headset. I've tried a few Bluetooth headsets and was disappointed overall. I've been looking at the Official Sony Bluetooth headset and the reviews seem very positive, but I was hoping for the opinion of a user on here. Thanks!

Yes, I use a headset. My communication is limited to only that which is pertinent to gameplay. I can't stand trash talk, cursing, or anything that would detract from being immersed in the action. As for the official BT headset, I use it and it is in fact awesome.

Thanks. I usually use a headset for the same thing, although from time to time there will be another player in the room that is just fun to chat with (especially while no one esle is talking). How does the official headset work with just a cellphone?

You can "sync" the headset with your phone. I don't know how to do it, but I think you have to go to bluetooth setting in your phone, then turn your headset on, then select an option to "find bluetooth device"....or something similar to that. ;)

I uses a headset for online games. SOCOM, CoD:WaW, LBP, SC4, GTA4, so on and so forth. True that alot of people don't use them, but when you can get people talking and working together, it's fun, especally on SOCOM. I have the BT that came with SOCOM, I also have a wired Logitech headset. The BT for some reason doesn't pick up sound good for anything other than SOCOM, So I use the wired one for other games.

How comfortable is it to wear? I was looking at it and I'm not sure the plug that goes in your ear looks comfortable. They don't have it at my local wal-mart, only at GameStop, so if I don't like it I'm still stuck with it.

I was thinking of doing this, but there are so many good games I'm trying to finish that I wouldn't have time for Socom, especially with how good the online component is on R2.

Thank you for the response, but I know how to sync it as I've used other bt headsets, I just wasn't sure how good the quality of the official headset is on a cellphone.

It's very comfortable. It takes time to get used to (it did for me anyway), but once you're used to it, you can't even tell you're wearing it. ;)

Really? I find that talking to different people online is one of the best ways to find other nice people to play with. I'm glad that games are making it very easy to mute problem players.

Y'know, I'm going to have that problem too. I'm still playing R 2 and Motorstorm PR online; I'll have to make time for SOCOM and then Killzone 2! In a way, I'm actually annoyed at Sony for having so many great franchises.

Yeah, my ps3 is finally getting a good workout. I also picked up Devil May Cry 4 the other day so I'm trying to finish that as well. The bad thing is that many people who picked up R2 will likely get KZ2, which means the online aspect of R2 is going to take a major hit. That sucks though as the MP is phenomenal.

I'd highly recommend it. It's the best headset available imo :) It has a mode called "High quality mode", and that makes everyone's voice crystal clear....Even when a lot of people have mics, you can hear everyone clearly :D

I've heard something about this feature, but I wasn't sure what it meant. Does it run down the batteries a lot more quickly than normal mode?

That's true, it might. But I think R 1 had a fairly well populated community way up until the release of the sequel. Not on COD4-levels but a decent amount.

Battery life is great on the Headset. I've never had it die on me even after long marathons of CoD WaW. I doubt HQ mode has a huge impact on battery life.

To the comfort question, I found it uncomfortable if worn for long periods (4hrs+) until I found a "sweet" spot and now I could wear it for days and not realize it's there.

That's good to hear, I never bothered to take R1 online. Mostly because the community was so well established by the time I got my ps3 that I figured there was no point in trying to get into it.

Sounds good. I'll probably end up picking one up soon then. I'll probably end up adding a few people to my PSN friend's list from this thread. :D

I only use it here and there on certain games. On games like Socom and COD WAW yes. On games like Resistance 2, Madden, NBA 2k, Warhawk and a couple of others no headset. I just pop my headphones in and listen to music while playing. It gets me pumped up.

I use my headset when playing with my danish clan on Resistance 2. oh yeah .. the official sony headset is nice. It's easy to turn the volume up and down even easier muting your own mic.

I use mine when I play madden 09 with my friends and my brother, but if I use it and play strangers, its all trash talk and you suck and blah blah.

Sometimes I use it with R2 as well

Co-op game in R2 + Headsets + Friends =8)

Another good comment about this headset. Like I said earlier, it's looking more and more appealing and will probably be a must have purchase soon. [QUOTE="rsoxguy12"]

I agree. Headsets are both a blessing and a curse, but IMO the pros outweigh the cons. I've noticed though that I play less MP these days and that I know gravitate more towards playing co-op with friends.

I''ll look again over the net for a decent enough headset, could probably find a mucb beter one ata more appealin price too i expect :D.

Is there an actual name forthis headset? Or can I randomly go to an employee and say "do you guys have the official Sony Headset for PS3?" and somehow they'll understand me.

I use my cellphone's Jawbone 2... but since this is getting great "reviews" from you guys, I might go buy it.

I was charging it with my PS3 until she came and chewed it up. You know how that Warhawk headset came with the bubblewrap? Well, I kept that bubblewrap on the headset to keep it protected, so I think that's what allured my dog to destroy it. I think it still works, except the thing that keeps it in my ear is in 16 pieces and the exterior looks like it was hit repeatedly by a crazy lady and her shovel.
