What do you guys use when it comes to these two settings? Is there any benefit one over the other? Pros and Cons? Thanks for your information.

The RGB full settings can only be used on mostly Sony product HDTVs. While they do make everything look arguably nicer, your TV will most likely not support this feature.hazelnutmanSony if I got a Sony HDTV I could use RGB without all the red stuff in the shadows? Damn my wife for being so cheap! I told her Dynex was Best Buy's generic knock off brand but nooooo....

this is what is great about being a single college student with 3 roomates in a cheap town house save up for 3 months and anything 1500 dollars or less is yours. I jsut picked u pa 1080P sony SXRD 50 inch yea it's DLP but it was twice the size same picture quality and it was 800 bucks comparted to a 40 inch bravia for 1100
Well my TV supports it indeed. I have a Samsung 650 120Hz series. It has slightly better color on RGB Full but the blacks are too dark. Seems like adjusting the tvs brightness fixes it but from game to game it's not the same. Some games are darker than other games so you would have to keep playing around with your tv's brightness. Last night I turned it to RGB Limited and my tv has a "HDMI Black Level Adjust". I turned that on and it almost looked as colorful and dark as RGB Full on PS3. Only thing is... the Blacks are not too dark in dark scenes. Hmmm... I don't know, guess my tv's adjustment may be a tad bit better than RGB Full.
there are alot of other settings for your ps3 that make the picture look better, i honestly forgot which ones but i seen them on youtube, it seemed to make a big difference

This is incorrect information. RGB Full can be used on Samsung too as well. I have 2 Samsungs and they both can use it. Also computer monitors too. It's not a "sony" thing.

i was being sarcastic. I do have a Dynex TV, but it works just as well as anything else and...... It supports RGB. :PI use full. Honestly, I think most sets support it... It's just a matter of whether or not it works out on yours. I've done it on 4 HDTV's and only one of them was a Sony. raven_squad
Yup my tv supports it too. I just have a HDMI black adjust that I believes works better than RGB Full. I'll toggle back and forth to see
I tried this test from the Internet and downloaded this black picture with 12 blocks. I have a Panasonic plasma hdtv
*When I turn the contrast and brightness way up, in RGB Limited I can see 11 blocks clearly. See picture below
*When I turn the contrast and brightness way up, in RGB Limited I can see only 4 blocks clearly. See picture below
If this tv supported Full RGB, I should be able to see the same ammount of blocks as in RGB Limited.
Conclusion: my tv does not support Full RGB and I loose a LOT of detail in dark areas with Full RGB enabled.

But if your TV doesn't support RGB Full... wouldn't the PS3 go to a blank screen or say that your tv doesn't? Doesn't it warn you if your tv doesn't support this it would revert back to the original settings?
I think there are videos on youtube to optimize your PS3 settiongs on yout TV, i did it but i dont remeber what the old way looked like lolWhat do you guys use when it comes to these two settings? Is there any benefit one over the other? Pros and Cons? Thanks for your information.

Full my tv makes the black areas good anyway because i turn it to limited and all of the colours look washed out.Jadman131
Yeah when I put my tv on limited... it's like a greyish look... when it's on Full the colors pop out more. I just wish the PS3 would have let us use Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr instead of RGB for gameplay like it does for Blu-Ray playback. Xbox 360 does this. With this setting you never have to worry about washed out colors or grey blacks... or having it on Full and some sets make the blacks too thick and colors over saturated.
i keep it on full because i switch from HD to SD tvs alot you should see it on full on a sony bravia 52'' omg its beautiful and you do see a slight difference then limited....i never noticed any red in the dark spots though like a few guys were saying...guess ill look for it next time

I never see red in dark spots on my Samsung 650 series. Hmmm that must be a Sony TV issue because several people have said that. I use RGB Full all the time now. Colors pop more and blacks are very black but not blacked out or too dark

It's useless to jump on someone's grill when he said "mostly".Limited. Trust me if you go full you will lost a noticeable detail in your darks. Go play Killzone 2 and compare them yourself. You might get brighter colors, but it is barely noticeable at all compared to limited UNLESS you're TV suports RGB, which is VERY unlikely. Dont use full just because it "sounds" better than limited, there is a reason why SONY set limited as the default setting.
If you think that increasing the contrast/brightness of your TV can compensate for the loss of black detail in Full, it does'nt help much.

On most tvs Limited makes everything washed out. Everyone knows this. Remember those Gametrailers video comparisons (back in 2007) where they would show 360 VS PS3 and the PS3 ALWAYS looked washed out and bland compared to 360? That was before RGB Full was used. Now PS3s colors pop just as well as 360s with RGB Full on. Killzone 2 is NOT too dark on my TV with RGB Full on. That's the way I've been playing KZ2 since launch so I don't know what you mean by that. My tv supports RGB. Limited makes blacks look grey and colors less colorful.
maybe it wpould be good for some1 to explain what RGB actually stands for? and isnt having something full always better than limited?
I use RGB Full on a Samsung 50" plasma, it allows you to use 1 tv setting after calibrating your tv with a calibration disk. If you do not then when gaming you will need one setting, and have to use another for watching dvds/blurays. Another wordsif RGB Full isnot on my games look overly bright and washed out if using the same setting on my tv after calibration, you will definitly need TWO SEPERATE settings on your tv if you don't use this. Heck even my xmb gets washed out or is way to bright if RGB Full is not on.
Hope this helps.
If you have your blacks to where they should be at for games to look good that way with RGB full off, then I bet your dvd's and blurays are on the dark side lol. If not then your games are washed out like crazy.Limited. Trust me if you go full you will lost a noticeable detail in your darks. Go play Killzone 2 and compare them yourself. I'm on a Samsung LN32B530 and I use full colors. I'm going to look into some options said on here, but it struck me as optimal picture quality when I was fiddling around with it.

I agree 100%. If RGB Full isn't on my XMB looks like its grey. On Blu-Ray playback this isn't the case because it's not using RGB to playback DVDs. Gameplay uses RGB and so does the XMB. With RGB Full I get great blacks just like I do on Blu-Ray playback. If someone calibrated their TV to look right using RGB LIMITED... their blacks would be horrible on Blu-Ray playback then they would have to re calibrate their tv to watch a blu-ray lol

If your TV supports RGB Full that's fine, however for the TVs who cant support RGB then it is better to stick to limited, at least for my Samsung.

Yeah the 650 series is an amazing TV. I use RGB FULL now. Before the reason the blacks were too dark was because I had the HDMI black turned up with RGB FULL on and it was like a double effect lol. I use RGB Full now with that HDMI Black level set to normal and it looks really good. very colorful and blacks are just right
I use RGB Full with my LCD Monitor, but when I connected my PS3 to my bro's 42" Samsung Plasma, I had to turn it off because in KZ 2, I couldn't even get the symbol to show on the Gamma settings when set on the highest setting.
