The more technically correct way to ask this question is, "Does 300 look better on Blu Ray than on DVD". There's nothing special about the PS3 in particular that will make a movie look better on a Blu Ray disc than a DVD. There are stand-alone Blu Ray players out there as well, the PS3 just incorporates their functionality.VManThat's true. Unless you don't want him to buy a PS3 for some unknown reason.

lol, I had no hidden agenda behind that nor am I saying he/she should just buy a more expensive, stand-alone Blu Ray player than to just get a PS3. I was just making sure he/she wasn't thinking Blu Ray was a proprietary format for the PS3 or if there is something particularly special about the PS3 when playing (Blu Ray) movies on it.

Actually, you can get a 500$ stand-alone blu-ray player on amazon now...
But will it look better on blu-ray on the ps3? Then deffinatly. Though just the dvd on the ps3? Not really, since its upscaler isn't the best so it'll look the same. Think of it this way, ign gave the hd-dvd review of 300 a 10 for video, and 9 for video on the dvd. The hd-dvd and blu-ray versions will probably look extremely similar, so no worries.

Still though, unless there's something uniquely special about it, one would be cheating themselves to not just buy a PS3.

You're right. If it was at launch time, the ps3 wasn't the best blu-ray player out there. Why? It didn't have a proper downscaler, so 720p wasn't supported. Plus, a stand alone blu-ray player could upscale dvds as well, though the ps3 now can. So the only reason a person would want a standalone blu-ray player, is for analog 5.1 uncompressed sound. The ps3 only does dolby, dts, and pcm for digital sound and only the stereo cables for analog. Most recievers don't have hdmi yet for sound, but about all have the option for analog 5.1. Though, besides that, a ps3 for blu-ray is the best way to go.
I was thinking about buying 300 on blu ray for my ps3 but is there a difference with it and dvd? does it look better or something?BeNOwNz
Blu-ray is going to produce a quality very close to going to see the movie in a theater. The audio is going to be much better and the picture in full HD. This is assuming you have a HDTV and a surround sound system

Im sorry but unless that theatre is an Imax it cant touch blu ray. I saw 300 in the theatres and i have the trailer in 1080p on my PS3 (its downloadable on the PSN) and the image quality is much better on the PS3 trailer than it was in regular theatre. Same goes for Spiderman 3 and Pirates 3 and much more
