Does an HDMI cable really make that much of a difference?

Is it a big noticeable difference in graphics?

Also, is the PS3 remote worth getting? I hate using the controller when watching a blu ray.

Yep.HDMI gives you the full 1080p resolution, which is better than you can get with the standard Sony outta box cable. And Yes,remote is worth getting, but do yourself a big favour and get it on E-bay or similar place, cos i got mine brand new at half shop price, and i use it always for movies.

If your playing through the playing through the standard 480p at the moment then the change to HD with a HDMI cable will be quite large depending on the resolution you choose to use. Obviously you will see a larger difference between 480 and 1080 than you would between 480 and 720. There quite a big difference if you are changing from an AV cable to either a HDMI cable or Component cable. HDMI is slightly better than Component but there isnt a massive difference really. Not that i have noticed anyway. If your after a 1080p picture though a HDMI cable is better. But anything lower there isnt a massive difference.

If you enjoy watching movies then the blu-ray remote is a must purchase. As for the HDMI cable, the size of the difference is going to depend on where you're coming from but it does in fact make a noticeable difference.

Ive got a remote and it is helpful because you dont have to press the triangle button and search for the option you want. All the button are in front of you. I found it helpful but i wouldnt advise it if you dont watch a lot of films

It will make a difference due to the fact that the console doesn't have to convert the original digital signal it makes for the picture into analog to pass through a component cable. You don't need anything more than Component Video in order to game @ 1080p, but you will need HDMI if you want to watch BluRay movies @ 1080p; at best, Component will limit you to 1080i with BD movies that do not employ ICT restraints. If you get unlucky to buy a movie that does employ ICT, playing it on Component Video limits you to 540p max. Thank you pointless DRM. :| Per my experience (primarily with the 360, mind you), HDMI also seemed to bump up the texture and color accuracy too.

There is as much difference as the difference between a bowl of cereal and a six course meal. Dang on right it's a difference.

Thanks guys, I'm going to get a cable (HDMI). Surely this is way better than hooking your ps3 via the "Component" option?

1. it depends on what your coming from (IE: CRT tv) 2. The only way a person is going to get 1080p (real 1080p, not the watered down version people are accustomed to) is maintaining a 1080p signal from start to finish. IE: The game has to be filmed in 1080p > The disk has to have the ability and capacity to hold 1080p > The peripheral has to have the ability to produce the the signal > The cable has to have the ability to send the signal > the TV has to have the ability to display the 1080p image. Currently the only known media that has the capacity to hold 1080p is a blu ray disc, but there aren't any PS3 games that have a full 1080p game. One many contain "cut scenes" or certain elements that are in 1080p, but the graphics chip inside the PS3 is not designed to produce 1080p format on a consistent basis, hence why the system only costs $300. Don't be fooled by the misleading information society and businesses have duped consumers into believing. The cost to produce real 1080p is outrageous, the cameras and editing equipment alone are hundreds of thousands of dollars. 3. Systems have the ability to upconvert, but that is no where near the same as having the real thing. How can you upconvert without having the original? You can't, they mislead you into believing you're truly getting what you think you're getting. 4. Going from a standard RCA or S Video cable to an HDMI cable will yield much improvement, but converting from component to HDMI will not, at least not as much as people are hoping for. Reason: The games are shot in 720p, which a standard component cable has no problem sending. Don't follow the hype!

When I went from SD to HD whilst halfway through Fallout 3 the difference was amazing. I could actually read the packets of food in game, everything became sharper, more defined. The difference was massive.

There is a massive difference in visual quality. I wouldn't be able to play my PS3 without a HDMI cable to be honest because it makes every experience so much better when the graphics are at there best.

Yes, I noticed a big difference when I got my hdmi cord. If you watch movies a lot, then yes. The dualshock annoyed me for movies also.

There's really no point in having a PS3 or Xbox 360 system if you aren't planning on using the HD. I didn't get my PS3 until I got a plasma, because I couldn't figure spending that much on a system and only getting standard definition on a regular television.

And yes, the remote is definitely worth getting, I wouldn't know why anyone with the means would bother not.

No, they find these in Google. Nobody would search pages and pages of old threads to bump one.
