I was worried that it was just me, but I would really like to know, does anyone agree with me that driving in Grand Theft Auto IV sucks? The controls are slow, the car steers out of control way too easily, the car easily crashes and gets stuck in small spaces, and the list goes on.

So please let me know if you agree that the driving controlling in GTA IV sucks as bad as I think it does.

Well, everyone criticizes it for being too "realistic" and not "fun."

If it's trying to be realistic, then the cars are going to handle... surprise!- realistically.

For what Rockstar was trying to do with the whole game overall, they handled the driving perfectly. Now if it was Saint's Row 2 that had GTAIV's driving, then there would be a reason to complain.

My problem with that game wasn't the driving it was that the game just got boring, because all the missions are the same.

Yeah they made the driving more realistic so it's not like the other GTA games. To be honest, GTA4 feels completely unlike the other GTA games. Saint's Row is a lot more like the other GTA games since it's more of an arcade game and it's not so realistic.

I find the driving could hold it's own against a racing game.

I disagree. I think the driving in GTA IV is great - way more realistic too. It took me a little while to get used to the new feel but I'm loving it. Going back to the older GTA games and then driving feels so weird.

About the cars: The driving is really great and realistic!

About the Motorbikes: It is really TOOOOOO bad and TOOOOOO realistic. I can't stay on the bike more than 10 seconds.

Conclusion??? Cars much better than Bikes...

I don't know what this phenomenon is in which people are bad at driving in that game. I mean really, it isn't that hard to master, especially when you get towards the middle and end of the game. I can understand people having issues with the racing, but just general driving and the occassional chase is fine. I'd much rather a game that is as vibrant and detailed as GTA4 to sport realistic car handling.

This. It takes a while to get used to driving but it gets fun to drive once you know how the car handles.

The driving in my opinion was neither good or bad. It was just sort of a necessity in my opinion. The game's mission design though, that was bad. The game was basically repeating itself by the mid way point.

I took a little getting used to, but I didn't think i was bad at all after about 30 minutes of playing. You do know that the better cars handle much better while the lesser cars are bad right?

I think the driving function in the game works pretty well. All vehicles in the game handle differently. For example: if you hijack a forklift it's going to handle much differently than if you hijacked a sportscar, etc.

There are vehicles that have great steering and others that don't. Same thing goes for the maximum speed and acceleration of each vehicle.

the icing on the pile of crap that is the driving is the fact that R2 was the acceleration, although you could change that.

The handling is something you have to get used to, I hate GTA IV right now because when I play it with my friend all he does is smoke the wheels up till they blow and it's boring as hell, No really you try doing it I swear you will play a different game just because it's that f***ing boring.

Good answer. I think the driving is GTA4 was perfect for that game. In other games it would have got on my nerves, though.

Haha! I totally agree with you, but the fact that you only do it when you're tired reinforces my theory for why abbreviations exist in the first place: People are lazy! :P

Yes I agree. I found it so bad I quit the game about 2 hours in. Tried to play again a couple months later and still couldnt stand it. None of the angles seem right, and the camera is way to slow to catch up after you turn.

Aw, man, I know! It sucks cause I live in the south and people use conjuctions for pretty much every set of words the can cram together (when speaking). The 'g' is completely missing from words that end in "ing", so words usually sound like jumpin', bumpin', thumpin', pumpin'.... I HATE that! The apostrophe is like a termite to proper English! It just eats complete letters out of perfectly speakable words. The sad thing is that know that I've gotten so used to these crazy, country conjuctions and lack or 'g' sounds it makes the proper way sound too serious. Its just hard to go from "sho'n't" to "should not" with out sounding too bold. Poor English. Man, I wish I lived somewhere the **** else!

No problem with the car driving at all. Unfortunately since GTA Vice City my personal favorite mode of transport has been motorcycles. These were completely destroyed & rendered undrivable as the moron who re-did the bike physics was obviously under the ridiculous impression that bikes somehow steer from the rear wheel for some bizarre reason. I fail to see how my front wheel bumping a curb could possibly have the results of catapulting me 15 feet off course or in the air. Certainly not at speeds under 30 MPH which is about as fast as you want to go on the broken-down pathetic things. Loved the improvements to the car physics. Should have left the bikes alone. If it ain't broken DON'T BREAK IT!!!!!! Asides from that the game just wasn't as engaging as it's predecessors.

I agree that the actual movement in GTAIV was poor. It felt like a poor man's third person shooter in my opinion. To make matters worse...I played MGS4 immediately before GTA4. The controls became unacceptable to me and I never bothered to finish.

It takes a while to get used to, but you just need to remember to brake round corners, and not try going speeding round. You wouldn't be able to do that in real life, so I suppose they just made it more realistic. I don't mind it though.
