Does anyone think this will happen anytime soon if ever?

I have really been hoping that Sony would have a Media Center like option for the XMB.  I would mostly want it for music.  The current organisation system for the music is horrible if you have more than a couple of albums.  I think the cell should be able to handle some kind of creative elaborate way to let you navigate through your artists, albums, genres and whatever else.  Itunes and Media Center do a good job of visual navigation.  Heck, my MP3 player (Creative Zen Vision M) does a much better job.  An instantaneous search system would be nice too, similar to WMP 11.  Anyone else want this?  Anyone think this will happen?

don't understand, why don't you just play your music off of your computer? why can't you use a gaming console for games(as that's what it's for)?

honestly, i don't know anyone that actually puts music onto thier xbox or ps3 and actually plays it off of it, it seems stupid when you can do so much more when you play it off of a good old compy.

don't tell me stuff like i have it in a different room from my compy and i want to play music on my surround sound, as that is what freaking cd's are for.

Well placing me as an example i enjoy my music in my PC, but i have the ps3 hooked to the tv and its connected to a stereo with 8000W speakers so if im in the mood of listening loud music instead of using my 300W compueter speakers i would shurely play my mp3 in my ps3, also that saves me the pain of burning cds in a format a standard cd player can read also why only 12-15 songs per disk if i can have thousands in my ps3 hard drive?? also i may add if the functions are there then why wouldnt i use them????

I don't think it will happen.

The PS3 is a game machine.

I'm sure there are specialized players for audiophiles out there.

The plan for me is to hopefully someday play a videogame with my own music playing during gameplay instead of the game soundtrack.

i think Sony first needs to fix external hard drive compatibility issues, because transferring 4000 songs from anything that isnt NTSC is a biznatch

many of these things can be addressed in upcoming firmware.  That is the beauty of the PS3 (and the PSP).  I myself would like an RSS feature on the XMB like it is on my PSP.  I know many (including Sony) may think it is pointless.  But to me, it would be another one of many wonderful features the PS3 has.  To be able to listen to audio podcasts and watch video podcasts on my living room sofa.

No, and neither is a computer or a 360 but they all do it.  I agree, PS3 needs something.  I play music over my 360 all of the time.  More so then my PC because I've playing games with it.  If the Cell is so good at multi tasking why can't I play music in teh background while I play, or use a decnt media playing system.  This is what needs the most work on the PS3.  Sure it plays games, but that's not enough anymore.

Well I had some people over last night and my surround is set up through my whole downstairs so I made a playlist using the genre to sort them.  I changed the music I wanted to a genre name that I just make "4.22" then I sorted by genre and put it on shuffle and repeat.  Best part is the range of the controller.  No matter where I was, if a song came on that someone didnt want to listen to, just press one button and we're on next. Just be a lil creative. lol

Just wait for a firmware update really.  Yes the cell is good at multitasking, but sony will first need to input a progam  which organizes the music better.

I too have a crap load of music on my PS3 and would like a better way to arrange the music.  Also sometimes when I put albums on the PS3 the tracks go out of order even though they are labeled correctly, IE tracks will be organized 1,10,11,12,2,3,4 etc... I hope they put more into that area.

That's clever.  And yea, the controller is awesome to skip songs if you happen to be in another room
