I'm a little more than halfway through it and I don't see how it's game of the year. It is incredibly smart and deep, but the game play is slow and the weapons are horrible. You spend most of your time looking down for ammo or stuff. And I don't find it all that hard yet.
I think Mass Effect, COD and Uncharted are better. Hell Mario Galaxy is more fun than Bioshock.
yeah, bioshock had an interesting storyline and the gameplay was decent.. (i started cheating around 3/5 of the game lol so much funner) but hmm.. i don't know.. i wouldn't say i completely agree that bioshock is game of the year.. but i wouldn't say it doesn't deserve to be awarded either..

I must admit the game was fun and great and all that but I really don't think it deserved game of the year....Honestly I dont think any First Person Shooter deserves game of the year....until they truly make a in depth RPG/Story line shooter.
The game was graphically very nice, gameplay was a bit slow and nothing i've never done before so it didn't quite grab me fully there, Monsters or enemies were quite unique but nothing great....storyline was too short and vague and nothing suprising...I really dont see why it got game of the year it was a great game yes but game of the year, no.
If you mess around with the different tonics, and kill people in interesting ways, it makes the game much more appreciable. But, with that said, i never even finished the game, primarily because the game had no death penalty, which made the game pointless to me. So obviously I agree with you, Bioshock is not game of the year material.
well exactly like the thing with the tonics and such...all of it is kind of cool but again I hate how with a lot of games actually there will be cool stuff like that but the stuff the game thrives off of isn't used enough and is not a necessity AT ALL to beat or advance in the game....They need to make things more of a priority in the games. another example is right now i'm playing a great game on my PC called The Witcher its very well in depth and a good story...has some flaws but the one big thing that botehrs me is the alchemy system is very deep but almost not necessary i've gone through half the game so far without using like any potions which is claimed to be a big thing in the game but so far its not at all.
I was really absorbed in this game for a while, but about halfway through I got so bored that it took me another month to beat it. I was very impressed by the art style and the ambience, but it took a serious plummet in the style of most over-hyped games (*cough*gears*cough*) where it's awesome and amazing for the first couple areas, and then they said "hey!, we roped them in, why worry about quality in the later areas". typical. NOT GAME OF THE YEAR by any stretch. If I could only give out one game of the year for any system, and I hate to say it since I'm a Ratchet fanatic, is Uncharted. I was absorbed from start to finish. then I played it again., oh yeah, and then again. Personally, I thought the VGA's were biased crap. How does the Orange box get any credit for being innovative? really? a set of games using almost 5 year old technology? innovative? LOL. please. It just goes to show, that if you want to be happy for the rest of your life, rent games first, make your opinion, and buy the ones you love. I'm not so sure game sites can be trusted anymore. This isn't a putdown on just GS, but as a whole. $$$ = 8.5-10.0. Make up your own mind about which games are deserving of what credit. I wonder how many people would re-buy super mario bros. NES version, or even mario all stars for the SNES, all on one disc, if GS said it was a 9.0 and "innovative/great value!". sheesh.
Bioshock was one of the best games in 2007 IMO. It ranked up their with Mass Effect, Uncharted, COD4 and AC for me. The story is very engrossing and the game play is fun and accessable. I too was disapointed about the no penalty for dying but was able to get past it.

My sentiments exactly. HL2, HL2 ep1, and HL2 ep2 may as well have been one game. Absolutely nothing new was brought to the table since it's inception. Episodic content??? Give me a break! Portal, while mildly entertaining, was a mini-game at best; easily finished in 1 sitting.
I want to see an industry awards ceremony by platform, by genre, decided by the people who play them.
Yeah I do. I played through it 3 times, never using a vita-chamber. And it kept me hooked the whole time. The story, gameplay, and graphics/sound were top-notch. The only other games I'd consider for GOTY were Mass Effect, COD4, and maybe Forza 2.

I agree. it is sad. but some of us just didn't enjoy it at much as everyone else. now the first time through it was good and it did raise hairs on parts of my body i never knew excisted. but i wouldn't call it goty...
