I always thought gameplay is a bit of everything (sound, controls, ui, story, world maps, items, things you can do, graphics, online, features, etc, etc.) It is a sum of the whole.

When you guys say gameplay makes the game great... Then what is gameplay? Can you define it?

And does graphic "contribute" to great gameplay? If yes, isn't graphics just as "equally" important as other parts of the game. Why do we (the gamers) have to settle for less graphics?

DISCUSS...And prove your point.

I agree with what you are saying and Story and controls is also a part of what makes up gameplay too. So the question still remains: Why do we (the gamers) have to settle for less graphics?

Yes,graphic contribute;alot!I played Clive Barker's Undying (rated 9.0) Due to the gfx,it wasnt fun at all.I jus played coz i wanted to know what to expect from "Jericho" (multiplatform). But there are times when gfx dun mean nuthin.E.g to me "Heart Of Darkness" is the best2d arcadegame i played, tho i played many full 3d arcade games, they're not much fun as h.o.d.It cant be said whether gfx contribute more, example:Just Cause' got great gfx as compared to GTA S.A,but it's gameplay's sorta boring to GTA S.A.Just read Transformers The Game's got 6.0 rating (not good enough,i usually buya miimum of7.0 rated games.Dunno if the pc version'll be bettr than the 360 version.

Graphics shouldnt mean anything in comparison to gameplay - if you cant play the game because of poor gameplay then it is truly unplayable - however, if a game simply has bad graphics people can still at least enjoy it, as graphics doesnt/shouldnt detract from an enjoyable experience Loki, if you were expect6ing anything from a game that is over six years old now, graphic-wise you are kidding yourself. It was a great game then and still is a great game now as the graphics were great for its time and IMO it is still easily playable now. And to the TC - Gameplay is simply how the game is played lol - its reactions its combat system, how easy it is to play through based on its various controls/systems Graphics CAN affect the gameplay of SOME games but to a very small degree - it is no where on par with gameplay (or IMO stroy as well unless its a FPS) When you say, 'Why should we have to settle for less graphics' are you talking specifically about the PSP - because for a handheld system I think its goddamn good lol - somewhere in the lower ps2 region If your talking generally, some companies dont have the money required to make a game look great graphically, especially as they may be focussed on the more important aspect of gameplay. Anyway you dont have to settle for games with lesser graphics - you only HAVE to buy games then that look great... But if you do so then you will be missing out on a lot as well... Of course I dont mind games with great graphics either :) But a lot of recent games have proven that great graphics does not = great game as it seems companies are more focussed on how it looks then how it plays. However with a good combination of graphics and gameplay, a game can be perfect (ala Company of Heroes)

while eyecandy (graphics) aren't everything they do enhance the overall game ... since before you play the game you see it and if it doesnt interest you when you see how likely are you going to play it. gameplay is a very important feature but the gaphic can't look like crap.

So while most wont admit it graphics does have an impact on gameplay, it's a combo of graphics, gameplay, controls, that make great game.
